📚 Year 11 CAIE Physics: International Competition Preparation Guide | CAIE
As a Year 11 student studying CAIE Physics, you have already built a solid foundation in the principles of the physical world. Many international physics competitions, such as the British Physics Olympiad (BPhO) Intermediate Physics Challenge, the Physics Bowl Division 1, and various national olympiads, offer an excellent opportunity to deepen your understanding, sharpen your analytical skills, and stand out in your academic profile. This guide provides a structured strategy to bridge your CAIE syllabus knowledge with the demands of competitive physics, helping you prepare effectively, identify key topics, and master the art of problem-solving under pressure.
1. Understanding the Competition Landscape and Syllabus Overlap |
Familiarise yourself with the specific competition format you are targeting. BPhO Intermediate Physics Challenge typically consists of multiple-choice and short-answer questions designed to test both recall and application of physics concepts at GCSE/IGCSE level, extending slightly beyond. Physics Bowl Division 1 covers topics from mechanics to electromagnetism, many of which overlap directly with the CAIE IGCSE Physics syllabus (0625/0972). Reviewing the official syllabus document of the competition alongside your CAIE textbook will reveal the common ground and highlight the extra areas you need to study.
Do not assume that competition questions are simply harder versions of your school exams. They often require you to combine multiple concepts in a single
