The WJEC GCSE Art and Design consists of two components. Component 1, the Portfolio, is internally set and assessed, then moderated externally; it accounts for 60% of the final grade. Component 2, the Externally Set Assignment (ESA), is released by WJEC in January of Year 11 and contributes 40%. Both components are marked against the same four Assessment Objectives (AOs). There is no written examination — the entire grade is derived from practical work and supporting studies, so consistent effort throughout the course is essential.
