1. Understanding University Geography and Related Courses |
Geography degrees at UK universities are broadly divided into BA (Human Geography) and BSc (Physical Geography). BA programmes focus on human society, urban development, globalisation, and cultural landscapes, while BSc programmes emphasise physical processes, climate, geomorphology, and environmental management. Some universities offer combined honours with subjects like Economics, Geology, or Environmental Science, allowing you to tailor your degree to your interests.
Admission tutors look for skills developed through GCSE and A-level studies: data analysis, essay writing, fieldwork, and critical thinking. Understanding these expectations early can help you choose the right subjects for Sixth Form.

3. The Role of GCSE Geography in University Applications | GCSE
Your CCEA GCSE Geography grade demonstrates foundational knowledge and enthusiasm for the subject. Universities rarely specify a minimum GCSE Geography grade, but a strong grade 7-9 (or A*–B under the old system) confirms your competence. Some universities, such as UCL and LSE, require a grade 6/B in GCSE English Language and Mathematics, but not specifically in Geography.
More importantly, the fieldwork, GIS, and data skills you develop in CCEA Geography directly support the personal statement and interviews for competitive courses.
