The exam tests your listening, speaking, reading and writing skills through topics ranging from identity and culture to the global dimension. The general conversation rewards extended answers. Never reply with just a word or a short phrase. Develop each answer with a reason, an example and, where possible, a reference to a different time frame. Record yourself speaking on each topic and listen for hesitations.

6. Writing High‑Scoring Responses | 写出高分答案
Edexcel values communication, range of language and accuracy. In the writing paper, I always opened with a strong introduction and closed with a clear conclusion. I used a variety of connectives — 'de plus', 'cependant', 'par conséquent' — to give the text logical flow.

In listening and reading papers, I never spent too long on a single question. If stuck, I picked a sensible guess and moved on, circling the question to revisit if time allowed. This prevented me from losing easy marks later in the paper.

Keep a notebook for 'real language' that is not in your textbook, such as colloquial expressions (e.g. 'c'est nul', 'j'en ai marre'). While you should use formal French in writing, knowing these can help your listening and can be sprinkled into the general conversation if appropriate.

11. Common Mistakes to Avoid | 常见错误规避
Many students lose marks on the same avoidable points. The most frequent error is mixing up 'avoir' and 'être' in the perfect tense. I memorised the 'être' verbs using the well‑known DR MRS VANDERTRAMP list and practised until it was second nature.
