Primary colours (red, yellow, blue) cannot be made by mixing other colours. They are the source of all other hues.
Secondary colours (orange, green, purple) are made by mixing two primary colours.
Complementary colours sit opposite each other on the colour wheel, such as red and green. When placed side by side, they create high contrast and visual energy.
Analogous colours are next to each other on the wheel, such as blue, blue-green, and green. They create harmonious and calming effects.
Warm colours (reds, oranges, yellows) are associated with heat and tend to advance in a composition. Cool colours (blues, greens, purples) suggest coolness and often recede.
