This guide provides a step-by-step writing framework, key command words, model answers across Biology, Chemistry and Physics, and tips to avoid common pitfalls.
在AQA GCSE科学考试中,掌握扩展写作题是获得高分的关键。无论你是在解释生物过程、评价化学反应还是描述物理原理,清晰的论文框架都能帮助你组织思路,有效呈现科学推理。本指南将提供逐步写作框架、关键指令词、生物、化学和物理的范文示例,以及避免常见失误的技巧。
1. Understanding Command Words | 理解指令词
Command words are the verbs in a question that tell you exactly what to do. Misinterpreting them can cost you marks. For example, 'describe' requires you to state what happens, while 'explain' requires you to give reasons using scientific principles. A 'describe' answer that contains reasons is not penalised, but an 'explain' answer that only describes will rarely pass Level 2. Familiarise yourself with the following common command words used in AQA Science.
指令词是题目中告诉你具体做什么的动词。误读它们会让你失分。例如,"describe"(描述)要求你陈述发生了什么,而"explain"(解释)则需要你运用科学原理给出理由。一篇"描述型"答案中带了理由不会被扣分,但一篇"解释型"答案如果只描述现象,通常很难达到第二档分数。熟悉AQA科学中常用的以下指令词。
| Command Word | Meaning | 中文 |
|---|---|---|
| State / Give / Name | Give a fact, definition or formula without explanation. | 陈述/给出/命名:给出事实、定义或公式,无需解释。 |
| Describe | Say what happens, how it looks; no need to give reasons. | 描述:说出发生了什么、外观如何;无需给出原因。 |
| Explain | Give reasons 'why' using scientific ideas; link cause and effect. | 解释:用科学观点给出"为什么"的理由;连接原因和结果。 |
| Calculate | Use numbers and an equation; show working and give units. | 计算:用数字和公式运算;写出过程并给出单位。 |
| Compare | Give both similarities and differences, using data if provided. | 比较:同时给出相同点和不同点,若有数据须引用。 |
| Evaluate / Assess | Weigh up advantages and disadvantages, then reach a supported judgement. | 评价/评估:权衡优缺点,然后给出有依据的判断。 |
| Suggest | Apply your knowledge to an unfamiliar context; more than one answer may be valid. | 建议/推测:把知识应用到陌生情境;可能有多个可接受答案。 |
| Justify | Give evidence or a reason that supports the statement you made. | 论证:给出支持你所下结论的证据或理由。 |
| Deduce / Determine | Work out an answer from information given in the question. | 推断/求出:利用题目给出的信息推算答案。 |
| Predict | Say what you expect to happen and support it with scientific reasoning. | 预测:说出你预期发生什么,并用科学推理支持。 |
Notice that a single question can combine two command words, for example 'Describe the trend and explain it'. When that happens, plan two distinct paragraphs: one for the description and one for the explanation. Underline the command words on the paper before you start writing - it takes three seconds and prevents the most expensive mistake in the paper.
注意,一道题可以同时包含两个指令词,例如"描述该趋势并解释它"。这时你要规划两个不同的段落:一段用于描述,一段用于解释。动笔前先在试卷上划出指令词——只需三秒,却能避免整份试卷中最昂贵的失误。
2. How Extended Writing Is Marked | 扩展写作题如何评分
Longer questions in AQA GCSE Science are marked using levels of response, not by counting points. The examiner reads your whole answer and decides which level descriptor it best fits, then picks a mark within that level. This means the quality of your reasoning and the structure of your argument matter far more than the number of scientific words you can squeeze in.
AQA GCSE 科学中的长题采用"分档评分"(levels of response),而不是数要点给分。考官会通读你的整篇答案,判断它最符合哪一档的描述,再在该档内给出具体分数。这意味着你的推理质量和论证结构,远比堆砌科学词汇更重要。
| Level | What the answer looks like | 中文说明 |
|---|---|---|
| Level 1 (1-2 of 6) | Simple statements, little or no reasoning, some correct science. | 第一档:简单陈述,几乎没有推理,包含少量正确科学内容。 |
| Level 2 (3-4 of 6) | Correct science applied logically, but links or conclusions incomplete. | 第二档:科学内容正确、逻辑基本合理,但因果链或结论不完整。 |
| Level 3 (5-6 of 6) | Coherent, logically sequenced argument; all parts of the question addressed; judgement supported by evidence. | 第三档:连贯、逻辑清晰的论证;题目各部分全部回应;判断有证据支持。 |
The assessment objectives behind the marks are also worth knowing. AO1 tests knowledge and understanding, AO2 tests application of knowledge and skills, and AO3 tests analysis, evaluation and the ability to make judgements. A six-mark question usually mixes all three, which is why a Level 3 answer normally contains a fact, an application and a conclusion.
分数背后的评估目标同样值得了解。AO1 考查知识与理解,AO2 考查知识与技能的应用,AO3 考查分析、评价与作出判断的能力。六分题通常同时混合这三者,因此第三档答案通常包含一个事实、一次应用和一个结论。
3. The Five-Step Essay Framework | 五步论文写作框架
Use the same five steps every time you meet a question worth three marks or more. The framework is deliberately short so that it becomes automatic under exam pressure.
每当遇到分值三分及以上的题目,都使用同样的五个步骤。这个框架刻意做得简短,以便在考试压力下也能自动执行。
- Step 1 - Decode: Underline the command word and the scientific topic. Count how many things you are asked to do.
- Step 2 - Plan: Spend 30-45 seconds jotting three to five bullet points in the margin. Do not write full sentences yet.
- Step 3 - Point: Open with a topic sentence that names the process or principle you are about to use.
- Step 4 - Explain: Build a chain of cause and effect using 'because', 'therefore' and 'which means that'. Add data or a named example.
- Step 5 - Link: Finish by answering the exact question asked, and if the question says 'evaluate', give a judgement.
- 第一步——解码:划出指令词和科学主题,数清楚题目要求你做几件事。
- 第二步——规划:用 30-45 秒在页边写下三到五个要点,此时不写完整句子。
- 第三步——立论:用一句主题句开头,点明你将要使用的过程或原理。
- 第四步——解释:用"because(因为)""therefore(因此)""which means that(这意味着)"搭建因果链,并加入数据或具名实例。
- 第五步——回应:结尾精确回答题目所问;若题目要求"evaluate",则必须给出判断。
A common mistake is to skip Step 2. Students who plan for under a minute usually write more, not less, because they never have to stop and wonder what comes next. Planning also makes it obvious when you have forgotten part of a two-part question.
最常见的错误是跳过第二步。只用不到一分钟做规划的学生,最终往往写得更多而不是更少,因为他们从不需要停下来思考下一句写什么。规划还能让你一眼看出自己是否漏掉了双问题中的某一部分。
4. Building Cause-and-Effect Chains | 搭建因果链
Level 3 answers read like chains, not lists. Each sentence should follow from the one before it, so the examiner can follow your reasoning without filling in gaps themselves. The simplest tool is a set of connectives that force you to state the link explicitly.
第三档答案读起来像一条链条,而不是一份清单。每一句都应从前一句推出,让考官不必自行补上逻辑缺口就能跟上你的推理。最简单的工具就是一组连接词,它们强迫你把逻辑关联明确说出来。
- Cause: because, as, since, due to, this is because
- Consequence: therefore, so, hence, consequently, as a result, this means that, which leads to
- Contrast: however, whereas, on the other hand, in contrast
- Emphasis: in particular, significantly, especially at higher temperatures
- Conclusion: overall, in conclusion, this shows that, therefore the best option is
- 原因:because(因为)、as(由于)、since(既然)、due to(由于)、this is because(这是因为)
- 结果:therefore(因此)、so(所以)、hence(因而)、consequently( consequently 因而)、as a result(结果)、this means that(这意味着)、which leads to(从而导致)
- 对比:however(然而)、whereas(而)、on the other hand(另一方面)、in contrast(相比之下)
- 强调:in particular(尤其)、significantly(显著地)、especially at higher temperatures(特别是在更高温度下)
- 结论:overall(总体而言)、in conclusion(总之)、this shows that(这表明)、therefore the best option is(因此最佳选择是)
Here is a chain built with these connectives: "As the temperature increases, the particles gain kinetic energy. Therefore they collide more frequently and with more energy. This means that more collisions exceed the activation energy, so the rate of reaction increases." Four sentences, one unbroken chain, full marks for reasoning. Compare that with "The rate increases because it is hotter and particles move more" - the science is present but the mechanism is missing.
下面是用这些连接词搭出的一条因果链:"随着温度升高,粒子获得动能。因此它们碰撞得更频繁、能量更大。这意味着更多碰撞超过活化能,所以反应速率增加。"四句话、一条不断的链条,推理部分可拿满分。对比"速率增加因为更热、粒子运动更多"——科学信息虽然在,但机理缺失。
5. Using Data, Units and Equations | 数据、单位与公式的使用
Extended answers that quote numbers from a table or graph almost always move up a level. Examiners look for a trend statement with a value attached, and for units given every single time. An answer that says "the mass decreased" is weaker than one that says "the mass decreased from 24.6 g to 18.2 g in 40 s".
引用了表格或图像中数字的扩展答案,几乎总能上升一档。考官寻找的是"带数值的趋势陈述",以及每一次都写出的单位。"质量减少了"这样的答案,弱于"质量在 40 s 内从 24.6 g 减少到 18.2 g"。
- Quote at least two figures and state the direction of the trend.
- Always write the unit: g, cm³, °C, mol/dm³, J, W, m/s.
- When using an equation, write it first, substitute second, answer third.
- Give your answer to the same number of significant figures as the data, unless told otherwise.
- 至少引用两个数值,并说明趋势方向。
- 永远写出单位:g、cm³、°C、mol/dm³、J、W、m/s。
- 使用公式时:先写公式,再代入数值,最后给出答案。
- 除非另有要求,答案的有效数字应与数据保持一致。
rate of reaction = mass of gas lost ÷ time taken
energy transferred = mass × specific heat capacity × temperature change (Q = mcΔθ)
moles = mass ÷ relative formula mass (n = m ÷ Mᵣ)
Notice the direction of the arrow in a chemical equation matters as much as the balancing. A reversible reaction in a closed system is written with ⇌, and your explanation of equilibrium must refer to both the forward and the reverse reaction, otherwise you cannot reach Level 3 on an equilibrium question.
注意,化学方程式中箭头的方向与配平同样重要。密闭系统中的可逆反应用 ⇌ 书写,而你对平衡的解释必须同时涉及正反应和逆反应,否则在平衡题上无法达到第三档。
6. Model Answer: Biology (6 Marks) | 范文:生物(6分题)
Question: A student investigates an enzyme-controlled reaction. Explain how the rate of reaction changes as the temperature rises from 20 °C to 60 °C. (6 marks)
题目:某学生研究一个酶促反应。请解释当温度从 20 °C 升高到 60 °C 时,反应速率如何变化。(6分)
Model answer: As temperature increases from 20 °C to the optimum, the enzyme and substrate molecules gain kinetic energy. Therefore they move faster and collide more frequently, forming more enzyme-substrate complexes, so the rate of reaction increases. At the optimum temperature the rate is at its maximum because the number of successful collisions is highest. Above the optimum, the bonds holding the enzyme's tertiary structure begin to break. This changes the shape of the active site, so the substrate no longer fits and fewer enzyme-substrate complexes form. The enzyme is denatured, and the rate falls rapidly. Overall, the rate rises to a peak at the optimum and then decreases sharply as denaturation occurs.
- Uses a clear cause-and-effect chain rather than a list of facts.
- Names the key structures: active site, enzyme-substrate complex, tertiary structure.
- Covers both the rising and the falling part of the graph.
- Finishes with an overall summary that answers the whole question.
- 使用清晰的因果链,而非罗列事实。
- 点明关键结构:活性中心、酶-底物复合物、三级结构。
- 同时覆盖曲线上升段与下降段。
- 结尾用总体概括回应整个问题。
7. Model Answer: Chemistry (6 Marks) | 范文:化学(6分题)
Question: Magnesium ribbon reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid. Explain how increasing the concentration of the acid affects the rate of reaction, and describe how adding a catalyst would change the rate. (6 marks)
题目:镁条与稀盐酸反应。请解释提高酸浓度如何影响反应速率,并说明加入催化剂会如何改变速率。(6分)
Mg + 2HCl → MgCl₂ + H₂
Model answer: Increasing the concentration of hydrochloric acid means there are more acid particles in the same volume. Therefore the frequency of collisions between acid particles and the magnesium surface increases, so more successful collisions occur per second and the rate of reaction increases. Because the magnesium is the limiting reactant, the same volume of hydrogen is eventually produced, but it is produced faster. Adding a catalyst provides an alternative reaction pathway with a lower activation energy. This means a greater proportion of collisions have enough energy to react, so the rate increases. The catalyst is not used up and does not change the products or the yield. Overall, both changes increase the rate; only the concentration change would also alter the initial rate without changing the total volume of gas formed.
- States the equation correctly with state-appropriate symbols and subscripts.
- Uses collision theory vocabulary: frequency, successful collisions, activation energy.
- Distinguishes rate from yield - a very common examiner trap.
- Links each change back to the original question.
- 方程式书写正确,上下标与符号规范。
- 使用碰撞理论术语:频率、有效碰撞、活化能。
- 区分"速率"与"产量"——这是考官最常设置的陷阱。
- 把每一项改变都回扣到原题问题。
8. Model Answer: Physics (6 Marks) | 范文:物理(6分题)
Question: Explain how increasing the speed of a car affects its stopping distance. Include the effect on both thinking distance and braking distance. (6 marks)
题目:请解释提高汽车速度如何影响其停车距离,并分别说明对反应距离和制动距离的影响。(6分)
Model answer: Stopping distance is the sum of thinking distance and braking distance. Thinking distance is the distance travelled during the driver's reaction time. Since distance travelled equals speed multiplied by time, a higher speed means the car travels further before the brakes are applied, even if the reaction time is unchanged. Braking distance depends on the kinetic energy that must be transferred. The kinetic energy of the car is given by ½mv², so it increases with the square of the speed. Doubling the speed therefore quadruples the kinetic energy that the brakes must dissipate. Since the braking force is roughly constant, the work done by the brakes must increase, and because work done equals force multiplied by distance, the braking distance becomes four times as long. Overall, increasing speed increases both parts of the stopping distance, but the braking distance increases far more sharply because of the squared relationship.
- Defines the key term (stopping distance) before using it.
- Quotes the equations ½mv² and work done = force × distance.
- Explains the squared relationship in words as well as symbols.
- Separates the two components so nothing is left unanswered.
- 在使用关键术语(停车距离)之前先给出定义。
- 引用 ½mv² 以及"功 = 力 × 距离"两个关系式。
- 既用符号也用文字解释平方关系。
