掌握 AQA GCSE 生物学中的特定术语是在考试中取得高分的关键。本指南将分解 Year 10 各主题的核心词汇,提供基于词根的记忆方法,并介绍主动回忆策略,帮助你快速学习和记住 Paper 1 及以后所需的术语。
1. Why Specialist Vocabulary Matters | 为什么专业词汇很重要
In AQA Biology, many questions demand that you use correct scientific terms instead of everyday language. For instance, writing "mitochondria" instead of "energy factory" can directly gain marks in definition and explanation questions. Precise terminology demonstrates a deep understanding and avoids ambiguity. Starting early in Year 10 to build a robust vocabulary bank will make your revision smoother and improve your performance in required practicals and data analysis.
在 AQA 生物学中,许多题目要求你使用正确的科学术语,而不是日常用语。例如,写 "mitochondria"(线粒体)而不是 "能量工厂",可以在定义和解释题中直接得分。准确的术语能展现深刻的理解并避免歧义。从 10 年级早期开始建立一个强大的词汇库,将使你的复习更加顺利,并提高你在必修实验和数据分析中的表现。
Examiners frequently report that students lose marks by using vague descriptions such as "the body's control centre" when "nucleus" is expected. Therefore, committing these terms to long-term memory through active techniques is vital.
考官经常报告,当期望使用 "nucleus"(细胞核)时,学生却使用 "身体的指挥中心" 等模糊描述而丢分。因此,通过主动技巧将这些术语记入长期记忆至关重要。
The table below shows how a single word swap can move an answer from a guess to a mark-scoring response.
下表展示了仅仅替换一个词,就能把一个"猜测式答案"变成"得分式答案"。
| Everyday phrasing 日常说法 | Required term 得分术语 | Typical question 常见题型 |
| "energy factory" | mitochondria | Where does aerobic respiration happen? |
| "water moving through a skin" | partially permeable membrane / osmosis | Explain water uptake by root hair cells |
| "germ" | pathogen / bacterium / virus | Describe how diseases spread |
| "the body fights back" | white blood cell produces antibodies | Explain the immune response |
2. Decoding Terms with Prefixes and Suffixes | 利用前缀和后缀解码术语
Many biological terms are built from Greek or Latin roots. Recognising common prefixes and suffixes can help you guess the meaning of a new word even if you have never seen it before. For example, 'hyper-' means above normal, 'hypo-' means below normal, 'mono-' means one, 'poly-' means many.
许多生物学术语由希腊语或拉丁语词根构成。识别常见的前缀和后缀,即使你从未见过某个新词,也能猜出它的含义。例如,'hyper-' 意为高于正常,'hypo-' 意为低于正常,'mono-' 意为单一,'poly-' 意为许多。
Once you learn roughly twenty roots, you effectively gain a decoding key for hundreds of words across the whole GCSE course, not only Year 10. This is far more efficient than memorising each word as an isolated string of letters.
一旦你掌握了大约二十个词根,你就等于获得了整门 GCSE 课程(而不仅是 Year 10)数百个单词的解码钥匙。这比把每个词当作孤立的字母串来死记要高效得多。
- cyto- / -cyte = cell → cytoplasm, cytology, erythrocyte
细胞 → 细胞质、细胞学、红细胞 - -lysis = splitting / breaking down → hydrolysis, glycolysis, cytolysis
分解、裂解 → 水解、糖酵解、细胞裂解 - photo- = light → photosynthesis, photoreceptor
光 → 光合作用、光感受器 - chemo- = chemical → chemosynthesis, chemoreceptor
化学 → 化能合成、化学感受器 - thermo- = heat → thermoregulation, endothermic
热 → 体温调节、吸热的 - -itis = inflammation of → bronchitis, arthritis
炎症 → 支气管炎、关节炎 - a- / an- = without → anaerobic, abiotic
无、缺少 → 无氧的、非生物的 - -troph = feeding → autotroph, heterotroph
营养、摄食 → 自养生物、异养生物
3. Core Cell Biology Vocabulary | 细胞生物学核心词汇
Topic 1 of Paper 1 is dense with new nouns. The safest approach is to learn each structure together with its function, because AQA almost never asks for a definition alone; it asks you to link structure to job.
Paper 1 的第 1 个主题充满了新名词。最稳妥的方法是"结构 + 功能"一起记,因为 AQA 几乎不会单独考定义,而是要求你把结构和作用联系起来。
Key terms here include eukaryotic (cells with a nucleus and membrane-bound organelles, such as animal, plant and fungal cells) and prokaryotic (bacterial cells, which have no nucleus and instead hold a single circular strand of DNA plus plasmids). Learning these two as a contrast pair is much faster than learning them separately.
这里的核心术语包括 eukaryotic(真核的:有细胞核和膜结合细胞器的细胞,如动物、植物和真菌细胞)与 prokaryotic(原核的:细菌细胞,没有细胞核,只有一条环状 DNA 和质粒)。把这两个词作为"对比组"来记,比分开记快得多。
- nucleus - contains genetic material and controls cell activities 细胞核——含遗传物质,控制细胞活动
- cytoplasm - where most chemical reactions take place 细胞质——大多数化学反应发生的地方
- cell membrane - controls what enters and leaves the cell 细胞膜——控制物质进出
- mitochondria - site of aerobic respiration 线粒体——有氧呼吸的场所
- ribosome - site of protein synthesis 核糖体——蛋白质合成的场所
- chloroplast - contains chlorophyll, absorbs light for photosynthesis 叶绿体——含叶绿素,吸收光能进行光合作用
- vacuole - filled with cell sap, keeps the cell firm 液泡——充满细胞液,保持细胞坚挺
- plasmid - small ring of DNA found in bacteria 质粒——细菌中的小环状 DNA
Do not forget the process words that sit alongside these structures: differentiation (when a cell becomes specialised), mitosis (cell division producing two genetically identical diploid cells), and gamete (a sex cell with half the normal number of chromosomes).
不要忘记与这些结构配套的"过程词":differentiation(分化,细胞变得特化)、mitosis(有丝分裂,产生两个遗传上相同的二倍体细胞)以及 gamete(配子,染色体数目为一半的性细胞)。
4. Organisation and Transport Terminology | 组织层次与物质运输术语
etting this hierarchy in the right order is a routine one-mark question, and it is easy to secure.
理解细胞之后,大纲开始向上搭建:cell(细胞)→ tissue(组织)→ organ(器官)→ organ system(器官系统)→ organism(生物体)。把这个层级顺序记准,往往是一道必得的一分题。
The transport vocabulary is where most Year 10 students lose precision. Diffusion, osmosis and active transport are three different processes, and examiners watch carefully to see whether you use them correctly.
物质运输词汇是大多数 Year 10 学生最容易失准的地方。diffusion(扩散)、osmosis(渗透)和 active transport(主动运输)是三个不同的过程,考官会仔细观察你是否用对。
- diffusion - net movement of particles from high to low concentration, passive 扩散——粒子从高浓度向低浓度的净移动,被动过程
- osmosis - net movement of water molecules across a partially permeable membrane, from dilute to concentrated solution 渗透——水分子通过半透膜,从稀溶液向浓溶液方向的净移动
- active transport - movement against a concentration gradient, requires energy from respiration 主动运输——逆浓度梯度移动,需要呼吸作用提供能量
Enzyme terminology belongs in the same section because it also describes a mechanism: substrate, active site, enzyme-substrate complex, denature, optimum pH and optimum temperature. Remember that a denatured enzyme is not "killed" - it is a protein whose active site has changed shape so the substrate no longer fits.
酶的相关术语也属于这一节,因为它们同样在描述机制:substrate(底物)、active site(活性位点)、enzyme-substrate complex(酶-底物复合物)、denature(变性)、optimum pH(最适 pH)与 optimum temperature(最适温度)。注意,变性的酶不是"被杀死了"——它是蛋白质的活性位点形状改变,底物无法再嵌合。
5. Infection, Disease and Immunity Vocabulary | 感染、疾病与免疫词汇
This topic has the highest density of easily confused word pairs in the whole of Paper 1. Learning them in families rather than singly prevents most mix-ups.
这一主题是 Paper 1 中"易混词对"密度最高的部分。按"词族"来记而不是单个记,可以避免大多数混淆。
Start with the pathogen group: a pathogen is any microorganism that causes disease; bacteria are prokaryotic and can produce toxins; viruses are much smaller, reproduce inside host cells, and cause cell damage. Note that antibiotics kill bacteria but do not affect viruses - a classic three-mark question.
先看病原体这一组:pathogen(病原体)是任何引起疾病的微生物;bacteria(细菌)是原核生物,可产生 toxins(毒素);viruses(病毒)小得多,在宿主细胞内繁殖并造成细胞损伤。注意:antibiotics(抗生素)能杀细菌但对病毒无效——这是一道经典的 3 分题。
- communicable disease - a disease that can be spread between organisms 传染病——可在生物体之间传播的疾病
- vector - an organism that carries and transmits a pathogen 媒介生物——携带并传播病原体的生物
- antigen - a protein on the surface of a cell or pathogen that triggers an immune response 抗原——细胞或病原体表面触发免疫反应的蛋白质
- antibody - a protein produced by lymphocytes that binds specifically to an antigen 抗体——由淋巴细胞产生、能与特定抗原结合的蛋白质
- antitoxin - an antibody that neutralises toxins 抗毒素——中和毒素的抗体
- phagocytosis - white blood cell engulfing and digesting a pathogen 吞噬作用——白细胞吞噬并消化病原体
- vaccination - introducing a dead or inactive pathogen to trigger antibody production 接种疫苗——引入死亡或失活的病原体以激发抗体产生
- herd immunity - protection of a population when enough individuals are immune 群体免疫——足够多个体免疫时对整个群体的保护
Drug development terms also appear here: clinical trial, placebo, double-blind trial, peer review and antibiotic resistance. Being able to spell them correctly matters, since AQA mark schemes will not award a mark for a misspelling that changes meaning.
药物研发术语也出现在这里:clinical trial(临床试验)、placebo(安慰剂)、double-blind trial(双盲试验)、peer review(同行评审)和 antibiotic resistance(抗生素耐药性)。能正确拼写很重要,因为 AQA 评分标准不会为"改变词义的拼写错误"给分。
6. Bioenergetics Equations and Terms | 生物能量学方程式与术语
Bioenergetics is the one Year 10 topic where you must memorise both words and balanced equations. Write them until you can produce them from memory in under thirty seconds each.
生物能量学是 Year 10 中唯一一个你既必须记单词、又必须记配平方程式的主题。反复书写,直到你能在三十秒内凭记忆写出每一个。
photosynthesis: 6CO₂ + 6H₂O → C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂
aerobic respiration: C₆H₁₂O₆ + 6O₂ → 6CO₂ + 6H₂O
anaerobic respiration (muscle): glucose → lactic acid
anaerobic respiration (yeast): glucose → ethanol + carbon dioxide
Alongside the equations, learn the descriptive vocabulary: endothermic (photosynthesis takes in energy), exothermic (respiration releases energy), limiting factor, oxygen debt, and metabolism. A limiting factor is the factor in shortest supply that slows the rate - light intensity, carbon dioxide concentration or temperature in photosynthesis.
除了方程式,还要记住描述性词汇:endothermic(吸能,光合作用吸收能量)、exothermic(放能,呼吸作用释放能量)、limiting factor(限制因素)、oxygen debt(氧债)和 metabolism(新陈代谢)。限制因素是指供应最不足、从而拖慢速率的因素——在光合作用中通常是光照强度、二氧化碳浓度或温度。
A common trap: respiration and breathing are not the same thing. Breathing is the mechanical movement of air; respiration is the chemical release of energy from glucose inside cells.
一个常见陷阱:respiration(呼吸作用)和 breathing(呼吸运动)不是一回事。呼吸运动是空气的机械进出;呼吸作用是细胞内葡萄糖释放能量的化学反应。
7. Practical Skills and Command Word Vocabulary | 实验技能与指令词词汇
Up to fifteen percent of AQA GCSE Biology marks come from working scientifically skills, and these questions are answered almost entirely with correct vocabulary. Learn the variable family first.
最多有 15% 的 AQA GCSE 生物学分数来自科学探究技能,而这些题目几乎完全靠正确的词汇来作答。先攻克"变量"这一词族。
- independent variable - the one you change 自变量——你改变的那个变量
- dependent variable - the one you measure 因变量——你测量的那个变量
- control variable - the one you keep the same 控制变量——你保持不变的变量
- accuracy - how close a reading is to the true value 准确度——读数与真实值的接近程度
- precision - how closely repeated readings agree / the fineness of the scale 精密度——重复读数之间的一致程度/刻度的精细程度
- resolution - the smallest change an instrument can detect 分辨率——仪器能检测到的最小变化
- validity - whether the method actually tests what it claims to test 有效性——方法是否真正检验了它声称检验的内容
- anomalous result - a reading that does not fit the pattern 异常结果——不符合规律的读数
Microscopy adds its own vocabulary, plus a formula you must be able to rearrange.
显微镜部分有自己的词汇,另外还有一个你必须会变形的公式。
magnification = size of image ÷ size of real object
Finally, learn the command words. "Describe" means say what you observe; "explain" means give a reason using because; "compare" means give similarities and differences; "evaluate" means weigh up evidence and reach a judgement. Choosing the wrong command word costs marks even when your biology is correct.
最后,要记住指令词。"Describe"(描述)意为说出你观察到的现象;"explain"(解释)意为用原因说明;"compare"(比较)意为给出相同点和不同点;"evaluate"(评价)意为权衡证据并作出判断。即使你的生物学知识正确,用错指令词也会丢分。
8. Word Root Memory Bank | 词根记忆库
Instead of memorising a hundred unrelated words, build a personal root bank. Every time you meet a new term, split it into roots and record the meaning. The table below gives a starter bank that covers a large share of Year 10 vocabulary.
与其死记一百个互不相关的单词,不如建立一个个人的词根库。每遇到一个新术语,就把它拆成词根并记下含义。下表给出一个起步词库,覆盖了 Year 10 词汇的很大一部分。
| Root 词根 | Meaning 含义 | Examples 例词 |
| cyto- | cell 细胞 | cytoplasm, erythrocyte |
| -chloro | green 绿色 | chloroplast, chlorophyll |
| -stom | mouth / opening 口、开口 | stomata, stomach? no - stoma |
| -derm | skin 皮肤 | epidermis, ectoderm |
| -phyll | leaf 叶 | chlorophyll, mesophyll |
| haemo- | blood 血 | haemoglobin, haemophilia |
| -gen | producing / origin 产生、来源 | pathogen, antigen, gene |
| -synthesis | making / building 合成 | protein synthesis, photosynthesis |
Two warnings about using roots. First, roots give you a hint about meaning, not a full definition - you still need the precise exam wording. Second, a few words look like they contain a root but do not; always confirm with your specification or textbook.
关于使用词根有两点提醒。第一,词根只给你含义的线索,不是完整定义——你仍然需要记住精确的考试表述。第二,少数词看起来含某个词根其实并不含;一定要用大纲或教材核实。
9. Active Recall Strategies for Vocabulary | 词汇的主动回忆策略
Reading a vocabulary list repeatedly feels productive but produces very weak memory. The evidence-based alternative is active recall: forcing your brain to retrieve the term without looking.
反复阅读词汇表感觉很有成效,但形成的记忆非常薄弱。有依据的替代方案是主动回忆:强迫大脑在不看答案的情况下提取术语。
- Flashcards - term on one side, definition plus one example on the other. Say the answer aloud before turning the card.
闪卡——一面写术语,另一面写定义加一个例子。翻卡前先大声说出答案。 - Blurting - close the book, write everything you remember about a topic in five minutes, then check in a different colour.
"倾倒式"回忆——合上书,五分钟内写出该主题你记得的一切,再用另一种颜色订正。 - Look-cover-write-check - the classic spelling method, ideal for long words like "photosynthesis" and "phagocytosis".
看—遮—写—查——经典的拼写方法,特别适合 photosynthesis、phagocytosis 这类长词。 - Dual coding - pair each term with a small diagram or symbol, so you store a picture as well as words.
双重编码——为每个术语配一个小图或符号,让大脑同时存储图像和文字。 - Self-quizzing in pairs - one person gives the definition, the other supplies the term, then swap.
同伴互问——一人说定义,另一人说术语,然后交换角色。
Spaced practice multiplies the benefit of active recall. Rather than one long session the night before a test, review the same set of terms after one day, three days, seven days and fourteen days. Each successful retrieval at a longer interval strengthens the memory more than repetition at a short interval.
间隔练习会成倍放大主动回忆的收益。与其在测验前一晚做一次长时间复习,不如在 1 天、3 天、7 天和 14 天后分别复习同一组术语。在更长间隔下的每一次成功提取,都比短间隔下的重复更能强化记忆。
10. Mnemonics and Memory Hooks | 记忆口诀与记忆挂钩
Some terms simply resist logic, and mnemonics fill that gap. A good mnemonic is short, vivid and personal; if it makes you smile, you will remember it.
有些术语就是无法靠逻辑记住,口诀正好填补这个空缺。好的记忆口诀简短、生动且个人化;如果它能让你会心一笑,你就会记住它。
For the order of classification, many students use a sentence whose first letters follow the hierarchy. For cell structures, link each organelle to a workplace: the nucleus is the manager's office, the ribosome is the factory floor, the mitochondrion is the power station, and the membrane is the security gate.
记忆分类阶元顺序时,很多学生使用首字母成句法。记忆细胞结构时,把每个细胞器与一个工作场所挂钩:细胞核是经理办公室,核糖体是生产车间,线粒体是发电站,细胞膜是安检大门。
Useful hooks for commonly confused words:
常见易混词的记忆挂钩:
- Osmosis starts with O, like "only water" - only water moves by osmosis.
Osmosis 以 O 开头,像 "only water"——只有水分子通过渗透移动。 - Anti-gen is the alien on the cell surface; antibody is what the body makes to defeat it.
Antigen 是细胞表面的"外来入侵者";antibody 是身体为对付它而制造的武器。 - Diffusion - direction follows the concentration gradient, no energy needed.
Diffusion——顺着浓度梯度"直接"走,不需要能量。 - Meiosis makes gametes; both words are tied to "half" the chromosomes.
Meiosis 产生配子 gametes,两词都关联"染色体减半"。 - Herd immunity protects the herd, i.e. the whole population.
Herd immunity(群体免疫)保护的是"整群",即整个人群。
11. Common Exam Traps and Confusions | 常见考试陷阱与术语混淆
Even well-prepared students drop marks through a handful of repeated confusions. Review this checklist before every mock and every real paper.
即使准备充分的学生,也会因为少数几个反复出现的混淆而丢分。每次模拟考和正式考试前都过一遍下面这份清单。
- Mitosis vs meiosis - mitosis makes two identical diploid cells for growth and repair; meiosis makes four non-identical haploid gametes.
有丝分裂 vs 减数分裂——有丝分裂产生两个相同的二倍体细胞,用于生长和修复;减数分裂产生四个不同的单倍体配子。 - Diffusion vs osmosis - osmosis is a special case of diffusion involving water across a partially permeable membrane.
扩散 vs 渗透——渗透是扩散的特例,涉及水分子通过半透膜。 - Gene vs allele vs chromosome - a gene is a section of DNA coding for a protein; an allele is a version of a gene; a chromosome is the whole DNA molecule.
基因 vs 等位基因 vs 染色体——基因是编码蛋白质的一段 DNA;等位基因是基因的一种版本;染色体是整条 DNA 分子。 - Antibiotic vs antibody - antibiotics are medicines that kill bacteria; antibodies are proteins made by lymphocytes.
