1. Definite and Indefinite Articles | 定冠词与不定冠词
The definite article (the) and indefinite article (a/an) must agree with the gender, number and case of the noun. In the nominative case, the forms are:
定冠词 (the) 和不定冠词 (a/an) 必须与名词的性、数、格一致。在主格中,形式如下:
- der (masculine) — ein (a/an masculine); der Mann, ein Mann
- die (feminine) — eine (a/an feminine); die Frau, eine Frau
- das (neuter) — ein (a/an neuter); das Kind, ein Kind
- die (plural) — no indefinite article, use keine (not any); die Leute, keine Leute
Always learn nouns together with their definite article, as the gender is not always predictable.
学习名词时务必连同其定冠词一起记忆,因为词性并不总是可预测的。
2. Noun Genders and Plurals | 名词性别与复数
German nouns are masculine (der), feminine (die) or neuter (das). Plural forms are varied, but some common patterns exist:
When you encounter a new noun, record its gender and plural form right away.
遇到新名词时,立即记录其性别和复数形式。
3. Cases: Nominative, Accusative, Dative, Genitive | 格:主格、宾格、与格、属格
The four cases indicate the function of a noun in a sentence:
四个格表示名词在句子中的功能:
- Nominative: subject of the sentence. Der Hund schläft.
- Accusative: direct object; also used after certain prepositions. Ich sehe den Hund.
- Dative: indirect object; also after certain prepositions and verbs. Ich gebe dem Hund das Spielzeug.
- Genitive: indicates possession. Das ist der Ball des Hundes.
The case affects the form of articles, adjectives and sometimes the noun itself (mainly genitive masculine/neuter adds -(e)s).
格会影响冠词、形容词的形式,有时也影响名词本身(主要是阳性/中性属格加-(e)s)。
4. Personal Pronouns in All Cases | 各格人称代词
Memorising the personal pronoun table is crucial for fluency:
牢记人称代词表格对表达流利至关重要:
| Nominative | Accusative | Dative | |
|---|---|---|---|
| I | ich | mich | mir |
| you (informal) | du | dich | dir |
| he | er | ihn | ihm |
| she | sie | sie | ihr |
| it | es | es | ihm |
| we | wir | uns | uns |
| you (plural) | ihr | euch | euch |
| they / you (formal) | sie / Sie | sie / Sie | ihnen / Ihnen |
Notice that the formal 'Sie' always capitalises and uses the same forms as 'they' but with capital 'S' in writing.
注意,尊称“Sie”始终大写,其形式与“他们”相同,但书写时首字母大写。
5. Verb Conjugation: Present Tense | 动词变位:现在时
Regular verbs follow a predictable pattern. For wohnen (to live):
规则动词遵循可预测的模式。以 wohnen(居住)为例:
- ich wohne
- du wohnst
- er/sie/es wohnt
- wir wohnen
- ihr wohnt
- sie/Sie wohnen
Stem-changing verbs (e.g. fahren, lesen) alter the vowel in the du and er/sie/es forms: du fährst, er fährt; du liest, er liest.
词干变化动词(如 fahren, lesen)在 du 和 er/sie/es 形式中会改变元音:du fährst, er fährt; du liest, er liest。
6. Separable and Inseparable Verbs | 可分与不可分动词
Separable verbs have a prefix that detaches in main clauses when the verb is conjugated: aufstehen — Ich stehe um 7 Uhr auf. In subordinate clauses or with modal verbs, the prefix stays attached: Ich muss um 7 Uhr aufstehen.
可分动词的前缀在主要从句中动词变位时会分离:aufstehen — Ich stehe um 7 Uhr auf. 在从句中或与情态动词连用时,前缀保持附着:Ich muss um 7 Uhr aufstehen.
Inseparable prefixes (be-, emp-, ent-, er-, ge-, miss-, ver-, zer-) never separate: besuchen — Ich besuche meine Oma.
不可分前缀 (be-, emp-, ent-, er-, ge-, miss-, ver-, zer-) 从不分离:besuchen — Ich besuche meine Oma.
7. Modal Verbs and Word Order | 情态动词与语序
The six modal verbs (dürfen, können, mögen, müssen, sollen, wollen) express ability, permission, obligation and desire. The conjugated modal verb occupies second position, while the main verb goes to the end in the infinitive form.
六个情态动词 (dürfen, können, mögen, müssen, sollen, wollen) 表示能力、允许、义务和愿望。变位的情态动词占据第二个位置,主动词以不定式形式置于句末。
Example: Ich will am Wochenende ins Kino gehen. Du musst deine Hausaufgaben machen.
例句:Ich will am Wochenende ins Kino gehen. Du musst deine Hausaufgaben machen.
Modal verbs are irregular in the present tense: ich kann, du kannst, er kann; ich muss, du musst, er muss.
情态动词的现在时变位不规则:ich kann, du kannst, er kann; ich muss, du musst, er muss。
8. Perfect Tense with haben/sein | 使用 haben/sein 的现在完成时
The perfect tense is formed with the present tense of haben or sein and the past participle of the main verb. Use sein for verbs of movement or change of state (e.g. gehen, fahren, aufstehen, bleiben, werden).
现在完成时由 haben 或 sein 的现在时加上主动词的过去分词构成。表示移动或状态变化的动词(如 gehen, fahren, aufstehen, bleiben, werden)使用 sein。
Past participles usually start with ge- and end in -t (regular) or -en (irregular): gemacht, gespielt; gegangen, geschrieben.
过去分词通常以 ge- 开头,以 -t(规则)或 -en(不规则)结尾:gemacht, gespielt; gegangen, geschrieben。
Example: Ich habe Pizza gegessen. Wir sind nach London gefahren.
例句:Ich habe Pizza gegessen. Wir sind nach London gefahren.
9. Adjective Endings: Summary Tables | 形容词词尾:总结表
Adjective endings depend on the article preceding the adjective and the case/gender of the noun. After the definite article, the endings are consistently -e or -en:
形容词词尾取决于前面的冠词以及名词的格/性。定冠词之后,词尾始终为 -e 或 -en:
| Case | Masculine | Feminine | Neuter | Plural |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Nominative | der gute Mann | die schöne Frau | das kleine Kind | die netten Leute |
| Accusative | den guten Mann | die schöne Frau | das kleine Kind | die netten Leute |
| Dative | dem guten Mann | der schönen Frau | dem kleinen Kind | den netten Leuten |
After indefinite articles or possessive determiners (mein, dein, etc.), the endings vary more, with the strong endings appearing in nominative masculine and neuter: ein guter Mann, ein kleines Kind, but einen guten Mann.
不定冠词或物主限定词(mein, dein 等)之后,词尾变化更大,主格阳性和中性会出现强变化词尾:ein guter Mann, ein kleines Kind,但 einen guten Mann。
10. Prepositions with Accusative/Dative | 支配宾格/与格的介词
Some prepositions always take the accusative: durch, für, gegen, ohne, um. Others always take the dative: aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu. The dual-case prepositions (an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen) take dative for location (where?) and accusative for direction (where to?).
有些介词始终支配宾格:durch, für, gegen, ohne, um。有些始终支配与格:aus, bei, mit, nach, seit, von, zu。双格介词(an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen)表示静态位置(在哪里?)时用与格,表示方向(去哪里?)时用宾格。
Examples: Ich gehe in die Schule (accusative — movement). Ich bin in der Schule (dative — location).
例句:Ich gehe in die Schule(宾格——移动)。Ich bin in der Schule(与格——位置)。
11. Word Order: Time-Manner-Place & Subordinating Conjunctions | 语序:时间-方式-地点及从属连词
In main clauses, the verb is always the second idea. Adverbial information typically follows the order: Time — Manner — Place. Example: Ich fahre morgen (time) mit dem Bus (manner) nach Bristol (place).
在主要从句中,动词总是第二成分。状语信息通常按以下顺序:时间—方式—地点。例句:Ich fahre morgen mit dem Bus nach Bristol。
Subordinating conjunctions (weil, dass, wenn, obwohl, etc.) send the conjugated verb to the end of the clause: Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin. Remember the comma before the subordinating conjunction.
从属连词(weil, dass, wenn, obwohl 等)将变位动词推到从句末尾:Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil ich krank bin. 记住在从属连词前使用逗号。
12. Common Irregular Verbs | 常见不规则动词
These high-frequency irregular verbs often appear in assessments. Learn their principal parts (infinitive, past tense, past participle) to use the perfect tense accurately.
以下高频不规则动词常在评估中出现。学习它们的主要形式(不定式、过去时、过去分词),以便准确使用现在完成时。
| Infinitive | 3rd Person Present | Past Participle |
|---|---|---|
| sein | ist | ist gewesen |
| haben | hat | hat gehabt |
| gehen | geht | ist gegangen |
| essen | isst | hat gegessen |
| trinken | trinkt | hat getrunken |
| lesen | liest | hat gelesen |
| fahren | fährt | ist gefahren |
| nehmen | nimmt | hat genommen |
| sprechen | spricht | hat gesprochen |
Use the past participle with the correct auxiliary to form the perfect tense: Er hat ein Buch gelesen. Sie ist nach Hause gegangen.
使用过去分词配合正确的助动词构成现在完成时:Er hat ein Buch gelesen. Sie ist nach Hause gegangen.
