📚 Year 9 WJEC Spanish: Study Tips from a Top Scorer | WJEC Year 9 西班牙语:学霸高分经验分享
Scoring top marks in Year 9 WJEC Spanish is not about talent - it is about using the right techniques consistently. As a student who achieved a high grade, I want to share the step-by-step approach that helped me master vocabulary, grammar, listening, speaking, reading and writing. Whether you are preparing for end-of-year assessments or building a strong foundation for GCSE, these strategies will boost both your confidence and your performance.
在 WJEC 9 年级西班牙语中获得高分靠的并不是天赋——而是坚持使用正确的方法。作为一名取得优异成绩的学生,我想与你分享我一步一步积累起来的秘诀,这些秘诀曾经帮助我攻克词汇、语法、听力、口语、阅读和写作。无论你是在为年终测试做准备,还是在为 GCSE 打基础,这些策略都会大大提升你的信心和表现。
1. Why Year 9 Matters More Than You Think | 为什么 9 年级比你想象中更重要
Year 9 is often treated as a warm-up year before GCSE, but in reality it is the year in which the habits that produce top grades are built. The WJEC Year 9 Spanish course introduces you to all four skill areas - listening, speaking, reading and writing - and the students who coast through it usually spend Year 10 re-learning the basics instead of pushing forward.
很多人把 9 年级当成 GCSE 之前的热身年,但事实上,正是这一年决定了你能不能养成拿高分的学习习惯。WJEC 9 年级西班牙语课程会同时训练听、说、读、写四项技能;而那些在 9 年级"混过去"的同学,到了 10 年级往往只能重新补基础,而无法继续往前推进。
The whole course sits on a small, predictable set of topics: myself and my family, school life, free time, holidays, food and health, and where I live. Because those topics repeat year after year, every word and structure you learn now keeps paying you back later. Nothing you learn in Year 9 is wasted.
整个课程其实只围绕少数几个可预测的话题:我自己与家人、校园生活、休闲时间、假期、饮食与健康、我的住所。正因为这些话题年复一年地重复出现,你现在学到的每一个单词和结构,之后都会持续为你"付利息"。9 年级学到的东西,没有一样是白学的。
| Skill | What it really tests | Daily habit that works |
| Listening 听力 | Speed, detail, distraction | 10 minutes of audio |
| Speaking 口语 | Fluency, pronunciation, spontaneity | 5 minutes recorded aloud |
| Reading 阅读 | Gist plus precise detail | One short authentic text |
| Writing 写作 | Accuracy plus range of language | One 60-90 word paragraph |
The single most important thing I learned in Year 9 is that marks come from accuracy and range, not from writing long, complicated sentences. A short sentence with a correct verb ending beats a long sentence you cannot control.
我在 9 年级学到的最重要的一点是:分数来自准确度和语言范围,而不是来自又长又复杂的句子。一个动词变位正确的短句,远胜过一个你根本驾驭不了的长句。
2. Start with a Solid Foundation: Core Vocabulary and Phrases | 打好基础:核心词汇与短语
Vocabulary is the fuel for every other skill. Begin with the WJEC Year 9 topic areas: family and descriptions (la familia, el pelo, los ojos), school (el instituto, las asignaturas), free time (los pasatiempos, jugar al fútbol) and holidays (las vacaciones, fui a la playa). I made a set of flashcards - Spanish on one side, English on the other - and reviewed them for ten minutes every morning before school.
词汇是一切技能的燃料。从 WJEC 9 年级的话题领域入手:家庭与描述(la familia, el pelo, los ojos)、学校(el instituto, las asignaturas)、休闲时间(los pasatiempos, jugar al fútbol)以及假期(las vacaciones, fui a la playa)。我制作了一套闪卡——一面写西班牙语,另一面写英语——每天早上上学前复习十分钟。
Do not memorise isolated words. Learn them in chunks, because chunks come out of your mouth automatically in the speaking test. My favourite chunks were:
不要孤立地背单词,要成块地记,因为"语块"在口语考试中会自动从你嘴里蹦出来。我最常用的语块有:
- tengo el pelo largo y castaño - 我有一头长长的棕色头发
- me gusta chatear con mis amigos - 我喜欢和朋友聊天
- voy al instituto en autobús - 我坐公交车去上学
- el año pasado fui a la playa con mi familia - 去年我和家人去了海滩
- los fines de semana suelo jugar al baloncesto - 周末我通常打篮球
Using a digital tool such as Quizlet let me hear the pronunciation and play matching games on the bus. Twenty new words a week is a realistic target: that is roughly 700 words across a school year, which is more than enough to handle every Year 9 topic with confidence.
我用 Quizlet 这样的数字工具,可以在公交车上听发音、玩配对游戏。每周记 20 个新词是个很现实的目标:一学年下来大约 700 个词,足以让你自信地应对 9 年级的每一个话题。
3. Grammar Brick by Brick | 语法:一块砖一块砖地搭
Year 9 grammar is small and highly repeatable. The first brick is the present tense of regular verbs, because roughly half of everything you will ever say uses it. Learn the endings as a rhythm rather than a list:
9 年级的语法范围很小,而且高度重复。第一块砖是规则动词的现在时,因为你要说的话里大约有一半都用它。把词尾当成节奏来记,而不是当成清单来背:
hablar → hablo, hablas, habla, hablamos, habláis, hablan
comer → como, comes, come, comemos, coméis, comen
vivir → vivo, vives, vive, vivimos, vivís, viven
The second brick is the small set of irregular verbs that appear in almost every task: ser (soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son), estar (estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están), tener (tengo, tienes, tiene, tenemos, tenéis, tienen) and ir (voy, vas, va, vamos, vais, van). Learn them as whole sentences - 'mi hermano tiene diez años', 'estoy cansado hoy' - so that you never have to translate word by word.
第二块砖是那些几乎在每个任务里都会出现的不规则动词:ser(soy, eres, es, somos, sois, son)、estar(estoy, estás, está, estamos, estáis, están)、tener(tengo, tienes, tiene, tenemos, tenéis, tienen)和 ir(voy, vas, va, vamos, vais, van)。请把它们当成完整句子来记——'mi hermano tiene diez años'、'estoy cansado hoy'——这样你就永远不需要逐字翻译。
The third brick is the near future, which is the easiest way to raise your grade in writing and speaking:
第三块砖是"近将来时",这是提升写作和口语分数最省力的方式:
ir (present) + a + infinitive → voy a estudiar, vamos a viajar, va a llover
The fourth brick is the preterite for talking about the past: fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron; hice, tuve, vi, comí, hablé. Learn five high-frequency past forms perfectly rather than twenty imperfectly, and use time markers such as el año pasado, el verano pasado, ayer and la semana pasada to signal them.
第四块砖是谈论过去所用的简单过去时:fui, fuiste, fue, fuimos, fuisteis, fueron;hice, tuve, vi, comí, hablé。把五个高频过去式学到完美,远好过二十个半生不熟。同时用 el año pasado、el verano pasado、ayer、la semana pasada 这些时间标志词来提示它。
4. Listening: Train Your Ear Every Day | 听力:每天训练你的耳朵
Top scorers listen far more than they read. Ten minutes a day of Spanish audio - a podcast for learners, a radio station, a song with lyrics on screen, a short YouTube video - does more for your listening grade than an hour of silent vocabulary copying. Start with subtitles in Spanish, then switch them off once you understand about 70 per cent.
高分学生的听力输入远多于阅读。每天十分钟的西班牙语音频——学习类播客、电台、带歌词的歌曲、短视频——对听力成绩的帮助,比默默抄一小时单词大得多。先从西班牙语字幕开始,当你大约能听懂 70% 时就把字幕关掉。
In the exam, the recording is usually played twice. The technique that worked for me was: read the questions before the first play and underline the key word in each one; on the first play, listen only for the gist and answer the easy questions; on the second play, hunt for the specific detail you missed. Never try to understand every single word - you will drown.
考试中录音通常会播放两遍。对我有效的技巧是:第一遍播放前先读题,在每个问题里圈出关键词;第一遍只听大意,先答简单题;第二遍再去抓漏掉的具体细节。千万不要试图听懂每一个词——那样只会被淹没。
Watch out for the distraction words that WJEC examiners love: pero (but), sin embargo (however), aunque (although), nunca (never) and ya no (no longer). A sentence that starts positively and ends with 'pero no me gusta' means the answer is negative. Numbers, times, prices and dates are also tested constantly, so practise hearing dieciséis against sesenta, or cuatro against catorce.
要特别警惕 WJEC 出题人爱用的"干扰词":pero(但是)、sin embargo(然而)、aunque(虽然)、nunca(从不)和 ya no(不再)。一个开头很正面、结尾却是 'pero no me gusta' 的句子,答案就是否定的。数字、时间、价格和日期也是高频考点,所以要练习分辨 dieciséis 和 sesenta、cuatro 和 catorce。
5. Speaking: Fluency, Pronunciation and Role-Plays | 口语:流利度、发音与角色扮演
Speaking is usually the skill students fear most, yet it is the easiest to improve because you can practise it alone. A typical Year 9 speaking assessment has three parts: a role-play, a photo card or prepared topic, and a short conversation. For the role-play, learn ten reusable openers off by heart so that you never freeze at the first line.
口语通常是学生最害怕的一项,但它其实最容易提高,因为你可以独自练习。典型的 9 年级口语测评包含三部分:角色扮演、图片卡或准备过的主题陈述,以及简短对话。针对角色扮演,请把十个万能开场句背到滚瓜烂熟,这样你就永远不会在第一句上卡住。
- Buenos días, ¿qué desea? - 早上好,您需要什么?
- Quisiera reservar una habitación doble - 我想预订一间双人房
- ¿Cuánto cuesta? - 多少钱?
- ¿Puede repetir, por favor? - 您能再说一遍吗?
- Es que no entiendo - 我不太明白
Pronunciation is worth marks and is easy to fix. In Spanish, h is always silent (hola = 'ola'), j sounds like the English h in 'hat' h in Castilian Spanish and like s in much of Latin America - either is acceptable, but be consistent.
发音是有分的,而且很容易纠正。在西班牙语里,h 永远不发音(hola 读作"ola"),j 发英语 hat 里的 h 音(jugador),ll 发 y 音(llave),v 的发音几乎等同 b,单 r 是轻弹舌,rr 则是颤音。字母 c 在 e 或 i 前,在卡斯蒂利亚西班牙语中发 th 音,在拉美大部分地区发 s 音——两者都可接受,但要保持一致。
Record yourself for five minutes a day, then listen back. You will hear your own repeated mistakes within a week. Also learn fillers - pues, bueno, es que, la verdad es que - because a natural hesitation sounds far more fluent than a long silence.
每天录五分钟自己的声音,然后回听。一周之内你就会听出自己反复犯的错误。同时要学一些填充词——pues、bueno、es que、la verdad es que——因为自然的迟疑听起来比长时间的沉默流利得多。
6. Reading: Skimming, Scanning and Cognates | 阅读:略读、扫读与同源词
Reading is where you can gain marks fastest, because around a third of Spanish words look like English. Words such as importante, posible, familia, restaurante and diferente are free points. But beware of false friends, which are the classic trap in WJEC papers:
阅读是最容易快速提分的部分,因为大约三分之一的西班牙语单词看起来像英语。像 importante、posible、familia、restaurante、diferente 这类词等于白送分。但要小心"假朋友",它们是 WJEC 试卷里的经典陷阱:
| Spanish | Looks like | Actually means |
| embarazada | embarrassed | pregnant 怀孕的 |
| actualmente | actually | currently 目前 |
| la librería | library | bookshop 书店 |
| éxito | exit | success 成功 |
My method for any text: skim it once for the gist without worrying about unknown words, then read the questions, then scan for the specific information. The question words tell you exactly what to look for, so learn them as a set: ¿Qué? ¿Dónde? ¿Cuándo? ¿Por qué? ¿Cómo? ¿Cuánto? ¿Quién? ¿Cuál?
我处理任何文章的方法都是:先快速略读抓大意,别管生词;然后读题;最后带着问题扫读定位具体信息。疑问词会直接告诉你该找什么,所以要把它们成组记住:¿Qué? ¿Dónde? ¿Cuándo? ¿Por qué? ¿Cómo? ¿Cuánto? ¿Quién? ¿Cuál?
If a word is unknown, use the words around it. 'Mi madre trabaja en un hospital; es médica' - even if you did not know médica, hospital tells you it is a health job. Context is a skill you can deliberately practise by covering the glossary in your textbook.
如果遇到生词,就利用上下文。'Mi madre trabaja en un hospital; es médica'——即使你不认识 médica, hospital 也告诉你那是一个医疗类职业。上下文理解是一项可以刻意训练的技能:把课本后面的词汇表盖住再读。
7. Writing: Structures, Connectives and Accuracy | 写作:结构、连接词与准确性
Writing marks come from three things: answering the task fully, using a range of language, and being accurate. I used one simple four-part structure for almost every paragraph: answer, reason, extra detail, opinion.
写作分数来自三件事:完整回答任务、使用多样的语言、以及准确无误。我几乎对每一段都使用一个简单的四步结构:回答→原因→补充细节→观点。
Compare these two answers to the question '¿Qué haces los fines de semana?'. A weak answer is 'Juego al fútbol.' A strong answer is 'Los fines de semana normalmente juego al fútbol con mis amigos en el parque porque me encanta el deporte, aunque cuando hace mal tiempo prefiero ver una película en casa.' The second one uses a time marker, an opinion verb, a reason and a contrast - four marks in one sentence.
比较一下对 '¿Qué haces los fines de semana?' 这个问题的两种回答。弱回答是 'Juego al fútbol.' 强回答是 'Los fines de semana normalmente juego al fútbol con mis amigos en el parque porque me encanta el deporte, aunque cuando hace mal tiempo prefiero ver una película en casa.' 第二种回答用到了时间标志、观点动词、原因和对比——一句话就拿到四个得分点。
Build a personal bank of connectives and use them deliberately: y, pero, porque, también, además, sin embargo, por lo tanto, aunque, sobre todo, ya que, luego, finalmente. Then check every piece of writing with the same four-point routine:
建立你自己的连接词库并刻意使用:y、pero、porque、también、además、sin embargo、por lo tanto、aunque、sobre todo、ya que、luego、finalmente。然后用同一套四点检查法检查每一篇作文
