1. Noun Genders and Definite Articles | 名词性别与定冠词
Every German noun has a gender: masculine, feminine or neuter. The definite article 'the' changes according to gender and case. In the nominative case (subject of a sentence), masculine nouns take der, feminine nouns take die, neuter nouns take das, and plural nouns take die. It is vital to learn the gender together with the noun right from the start, for example der Tisch (the table), die Lampe (the lamp), das Buch (the book), die Bücher (the books).
每个德语名词都有性别:阳性、阴性或中性。定冠词(相当于英语的 the)根据性和格变化。在第一格(主格,即主语)中,阳性名词用 der,阴性名词用 die,中性名词用 das,复数名词用 die。从一开始就要把性别和名词一起记住,比如 der Tisch(桌子)、die Lampe(灯)、das Buch(书)、die Bücher(书,复数)。
A simple memory trick: about 60% of German nouns are masculine, 30% feminine and 10% neuter, but many common exceptions exist. Words ending in -e are often feminine (die Schule), words ending in -chen or -lein are always neuter (das Mädchen), and nouns derived from verbs without ending are usually masculine (der Lauf). Always check a dictionary to be sure.
一个简单的记忆窍门:大约 60% 的德语名词是阳性,30% 是阴性,10% 是中性,但有很多常见的例外。以 -e 结尾的词常为阴性(die Schule),以 -chen 或 -lein 结尾的词永远是中性(das Mädchen),动词直接转化来的无词尾名词通常是阳性(der Lauf)。不确定时请查阅词典。
2. Indefinite and Negative Articles | 不定冠词与否定冠词
The indefinite article 'a/an' in the nominative case follows the same gender pattern: ein for masculine (ein Mann), eine for feminine (eine Frau), ein for neuter (ein Kind). For plural, there is no indefinite article, so you simply say Kinder spielen (children play). The negative article 'not a / no' also uses the same endings: kein (masculine/neuter) and keine (feminine/plural), e.g. kein Problem (no problem), keine Zeit (no time).
不定冠词(相当于英语的 a/an)在第一格中遵循同样的性别规律:阳性用 ein(ein Mann),阴性用 eine(eine Frau),中性用 ein(ein Kind)。复数形式没有不定冠词,直接说 Kinder spielen(孩子们在玩)。否定冠词“没有一个/没有”也使用相同词尾:kein(阳性/中性)和 keine(阴性/复数),例如 kein Problem(没问题)、keine Zeit(没有时间)。
These words are essential for building simple sentences: Ich habe einen Bruder (I have a brother – accusative masculine changes ein to einen). Think of 'kein' as the opposite of 'ein' and use it whenever you want to say 'not a' or 'no'.
这些词对于构建简单句子至关重要:Ich habe einen Bruder(我有一个哥哥——宾格阳性将 ein 变成 einen)。把 ‘kein’ 看作 ‘ein’ 的反义词,想表达“没有一个”或“不”的时候就使用它。
3. Personal Pronouns | 人称代词
German personal pronouns in the nominative case are: ich (I), du (you – informal singular), er/sie/es (he/she/it), wir (we), ihr (you – informal plural), sie (they) and the formal Sie (you – formal, singular and plural, always capitalised). Note that 'sie' meaning 'she' and 'sie' meaning 'they' can be distinguished by the verb form: sie kommt (she comes) vs. sie kommen (they come).
德语第一格人称代词是:ich(我)、du(你——非正式单数)、er/sie/es(他/她/它)、wir(我们)、ihr(你们——非正式复数)、sie(他们)以及尊称 Sie(您/你们——正式,单复数同形,永远大写)。注意:表示“她”的 sie 和表示“他们”的 sie 可通过动词形式区分:sie kommt(她来)与 sie kommen(他们来)。
In the accusative case (direct object), these change to mich, dich, ihn, sie, es, uns, euch, sie, Sie. For example: Ich sehe dich (I see you). In the dative (indirect object), they become mir, dir, ihm, ihr, ihm, uns, euch, ihnen, Ihnen. A helpful pattern: dative often adds an -r or -m.
在宾格(直接宾语)中,人称代词变为 mich, dich, ihn, sie, es, uns, euch, sie, Sie。例如:Ich sehe dich(我看见你)。在与格(间接宾语)中,它们变为 mir, dir, ihm, ihr, ihm, uns, euch, ihnen, Ihnen。一个有用的规律是:与格常以 -r 或 -m 结尾。
4. Present Tense Regular Verbs | 现在时规则动词变位
Regular German verbs follow a fixed pattern. Take the infinitive stem (verb minus -en or -n) and add these endings: ich -e, du -st, er/sie/es -t, wir -en, ihr -t, sie/Sie -en. For the verb spielen (to play), the stem is spiel-, giving: ich spiele, du spielst, er spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie spielen.
规则德语动词遵循固定的变位模式。取动词不定式词干(去掉 -en 或 -n),然后加上以下词尾:ich -e,du -st,er/sie/es -t,wir -en,ihr -t,sie/Sie -en。以动词 spielen(玩)为例,词干是 spiel-,变位为:ich spiele, du spielst, er spielt, wir spielen, ihr spielt, sie spielen。
If the stem ends in -t, -d or a consonant cluster like -chn or -ffn, an extra -e is inserted before the -st and -t endings to make pronunciation easier: arbeiten (to work) → du arbeitest, er arbeitet. Verbs whose stem ends in -s, -ß, -x or -z drop the -s in the du ending: heißen → du heißt (not heißst).
如果词干以 -t、-d 或 -chn、-ffn 等辅音簇结尾,则在 -st 和 -t 词尾前加一个 -e,以便发音:arbeiten(工作)→ du arbeitest, er arbeitet。词干以 -s、-ß、-x 或 -z 结尾的动词,在 du 的词尾中省略 -s:heißen → du heißt(而不是 heißst)。
5. Present Tense Irregular Verbs: haben, sein, werden | 不规则动词 haben, sein, werden 现在时
The three most important irregular verbs must be memorised because they do not follow the regular pattern.
These verbs are used constantly: 'haben' for possession and as an auxiliary verb in the perfect tense; 'sein' to describe states, locations and identity, and also as an auxiliary for certain perfect tense verbs; 'werden' to form the future tense and to express ‘becoming’. For example: Morgen wird es kalt (Tomorrow it will be cold) uses werden to indicate future.
这些动词使用频率极高:haben 用于表示拥有,并作为完成时的助动词;sein 用于描述状态、地点和身份,也是某些动词完成时的助动词;werden 用于构成将来时,也表示“变成”。例如:Morgen wird es kalt(明天会变冷)中的 werden 表示将来。
6. Modal Verbs in Present Tense | 情态动词现在时
German modal verbs change the main verb to express ability, permission, liking, obligation or wish. The six modals are: können (can), müssen (must), dürfen (may/be allowed to), wollen (want to), sollen (should/ought to) and mögen (like). In the present tense, modal verbs are irregular: the ich and er/sie/es forms have no ending and often change the stem vowel. For example, können: ich kann, du kannst, er kann, wir können, ihr könnt, sie können.
德语情态动词用来表达能力、许可、喜好、义务或意愿。六个情态动词是:können(能够)、müssen(必须)、dürfen(可以/被允许)、wollen(想要)、sollen(应该)和 mögen(喜欢)。现在时中,情态动词变位不规则:ich 和 er/sie/es 形式没有词尾,且常改变词干元音。例如 können:ich kann, du kannst, er kann, wir können, ihr könnt, sie können。
When a modal verb is used, the main verb goes to the end of the clause in the infinitive form. This creates the so-called 'modal bracket': Ich kann gut schwimmen (I can swim well). Note the special form möchten (would like) derived from mögen: ich möchte, du möchtest, er möchte, wir möchten, ihr möchtet, sie möchten. It is extremely useful for polite requests, e.g. Ich möchte ein Eis, bitte (I would like an ice cream, please).
使用情态动词时,主动词以不定式形式放在句末,形成所谓的“情态框架”:Ich kann gut schwimmen(我游泳游得很好)。注意 möchten(想要)是从 mögen 派生出来的特殊形式:ich möchte, du möchtest, er möchte, wir möchten, ihr möchtet, sie möchten。它非常适用于礼貌请求,如 Ich möchte ein Eis, bitte(我想要一个冰淇淋,麻烦了)。
7. Adjective Endings after Definite and Indefinite Articles | 形容词词尾(定冠词/不定冠词后)
Adjective endings in German depend on three factors: gender, case and whether the article before the adjective is definite or indefinite. After the definite article (der, die, das), the adjective usually takes a weak ending: -e for nominative singular nearly all genders, and -en for accusative masculine, dative and plural. For example: der nette Mann (the nice man), die nette Frau, das nette Kind, die netten Leute (the nice people).
德语形容词词尾取决于三个因素:性别、格以及形容词前的冠词是定冠词还是不定冠词。在定冠词(der, die, das)之后,形容词通常使用弱变化词尾:单数第一格几乎所有性都用 -e,宾格阳性、与格和复数用 -en。例如:der nette Mann(那位友善的男士),die nette Frau,das nette Kind,die netten Leute(那些友善的人们)。
After the indefinite article (ein, eine, ein), the adjective takes strong endings that show the gender clearly: -er for masculine (ein netter Mann), -e for feminine (eine nette Frau), -es for neuter (ein nettes Kind). For plural after 'keine' or 'meine', the ending is -en (keine netten Leute). In the accusative masculine, the adjective ending becomes -en (einen netten Mann). This system is often called the 'Adjective Table' and, while it looks daunting at first, with practice it becomes a formula you can apply mechanically.
在不定冠词(ein, eine, ein)之后,形容词要使用能清楚显示性别的强变化词尾:阳性用 -er(ein netter Mann),阴性用 -e(eine nette Frau),中性用 -es(ein nettes Kind)。在 keine 或 meine 后面的复数形式,词尾为 -en(keine netten Leute)。在宾格阳性中,形容词词尾变为 -en(einen netten Mann)。这个系统常被称为“形容词表格”,起初可能看起来令人生畏,但通过练习它会变成一条可以机械套用的公式。
8. Prepositions with Accusative and Dative | 支配宾格与格的介词
Some prepositions always take the accusative case, some always take the dative, and a few can take either depending on whether motion or location is described. Pure accusative prepositions include: durch (through), für (for), gegen (against), ohne (without), um (around). Example: ohne meinen Freund (without my friend). Pure dative prepositions: aus (out of), außer (except), bei (at/with), mit (with), nach (after/to), seit (since/for), von (from/of), zu (to). Example: mit dem Bus (by bus, with the bus).
有些介词永远支配宾格,有些永远支配与格,还有一些根据描述的是动作方向还是位置而变化。纯宾格介词包括:durch(穿过)、für(为了)、gegen(反对)、ohne(没有)、um(围绕)。例如:ohne meinen Freund(没有我的朋友)。纯与格介词:aus(从…出来)、außer(除了)、bei(在…旁边/在…那里)、mit(和/用)、nach(在…之后/去)、seit(自从/达…之久)、von(从/的)、zu(到)。例如:mit dem Bus(乘公共汽车)。
The two-way prepositions (Wechselpräpositionen) use accusative for movement towards something (wohin? where to?) and dative for location (wo? where?). These are: an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen. For instance: Ich hänge das Bild an die Wand (I hang the picture on the wall – accusative, motion) vs. Das Bild hängt an der Wand (The picture hangs on the wall – dative, location). This rule transforms how you describe positions and movements.
双格介词(Wechselpräpositionen)在表示朝某处移动时(wohin? 到哪里去?)用宾格,表示静态位置时(wo? 在哪?)用与格。这些介词是:an, auf, hinter, in, neben, über, unter, vor, zwischen。例如:Ich hänge das Bild an die Wand(我把画挂到墙上——宾格,移动)与 Das Bild hängt an der Wand(画挂在墙上——与格,位置)。这条规则会完全改变你描述位置和移动的方式。
9. Word Order: Verb Second and Time-Manner-Place | 语序:动词第二位置与时间-方式-地点
In German main clauses, the conjugated verb must be the second element. That means the subject does not have to be first; a time phrase, location or object can occupy position one. Example: Am Wochenende spiele ich Tennis (At the weekend I play tennis) – verb remains second. This 'verb second' rule is one of the most powerful formulas for building flexible sentences.
在德语主句中,变位动词必须是第二个成分。这意味着主语不一定要放在第一位;时间短语、地点或宾语都可以占据第一位置。例如:Am Wochenende spiele ich Tennis(周末我打网球)——动词仍然在第二位。这条“动词第二位置”规则是构建灵活句子的最强公式之一。
When adding more details, a common sequence is Time – Manner – Place (TMP). Ich fahre morgen mit dem Bus zur Schule (I travel tomorrow by bus to school). If you shift the time phrase to position one, the order becomes: Morgen fahre ich mit dem Bus zur Schule. After a subordinate conjunction (weil, dass, ob, wenn), the verb moves to the end: Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil es regnet (I stay at home because it rains).
添加更多细节时,通常采用时间 – 方式 – 地点(TMP)的顺序。Ich fahre morgen mit dem Bus zur Schule(我明天乘公共汽车去学校)。如果把时间短语移到第一位置,顺序就变成:Morgen fahre ich mit dem Bus zur Schule。在从句连词(weil, dass, ob, wenn)之后,动词移至句末:Ich bleibe zu Hause, weil es regnet(我待在家里,因为下雨了)。
10. Questions and Negation | 疑问句与否定
Yes/no questions are formed by putting the conjugated verb in first position, followed by the subject and then the rest: Kommst du heute? (Are you coming today?). Information questions use a question word first, then the verb, then the subject: Wann kommst du? (When are you coming?), Wo wohnst du? (Where do you live?). Important question words: wer (who), was (what), wann (when), wo (where), warum (why), wie (how), welcher/welche/welches (which).
一般疑问句通过将变位动词置于第一位,然后接主语和其他成分构成:Kommst du heute?(你今天来吗?)。特殊疑问句把疑问词放在第一位,然后是动词,再接主语:Wann kommst du?(你什么时候来?),Wo wohnst du?(你住在哪里?)。重要疑问词:wer(谁),was(什么),wann(什么时候),wo(哪里),warum(为什么),wie(怎样),welcher/welche/welches(哪一个)。
Negation is done mainly with nicht (not) and kein (no/not a). Use 'kein' before nouns that would otherwise have an indefinite article: Ich habe kein Geld (I have no money). Use 'nicht' to negate verbs, adjectives or entire statements. The position of 'nicht' goes at the end of the clause if negating a verb, or before a specific word to emphasise what is being negated: Ich komme heute nicht (I am not coming today) vs. Nicht ich, sondern er kommt (Not I, but he is coming).
否定主要使用 nicht(不)和 kein(没有 / 不是一个)。在原本该用不定冠词的名词前使用 ‘kein’:Ich habe kein Geld(我没有钱)。使用 ‘nicht’ 来否定动词、形容词或整个陈述。否定整个谓语时,‘nicht’ 通常放在句末;若要强调特定词的否定,则‘nicht’放在该词前面:Ich komme heute nicht(我今天不来)对比 Nicht ich, sondern er kommt(不是我来,而是他来)。
11. Separable Verbs | 可分动词
Many German verbs have a prefix that separates from the main verb in main clauses and goes to the end of the clause. Common separable prefixes are ab-, an-, auf-, aus-, ein-, fern-, mit-, nach-, vor-, zu-, zurück- and more. Example: aufmachen (to open) → Ich mache die Tür auf (I open the door). In the infinitive form they are written as one word; when used with a modal, they stay together at the end: Ich muss die Tür aufmachen (I must open the door).
许多德语动词带有一个前缀,该前缀在主句中会与主动词分离并移到句末。常见的可分前缀有 ab-, an-, auf-, aus-, ein-, fern-, mit-, nach-, vor-, zu-, zurück- 等。例如:aufmachen(打开)→ Ich mache die Tür auf(我把门打开)。不定式形式写成一个词;与情态动词连用时,它们作为整体留在句末:Ich muss die Tür aufmachen(我必须把门打开)。
In perfect tense, the prefix and the past participle stick the ge- in between the prefix and the stem: aufgemacht (opened). The same logic applies to inseparable prefixes (be-, emp-, ent-, er-, ge-, miss-, ver-, zer-) which do not separate and do not add ge- in the past participle: besuchen → besucht (visited). Recognising whether a prefix is separable or inseparable is a key formula for correct verb conjugation at Year 9 level.
在完成时中,过去分词将 ge- 插入到前缀和词干之间:aufgemacht(打开了)。同样的逻辑也适用于不可分前缀(be-, emp-, ent-, er-, ge-, miss-, ver-, zer-),它们不分离开,过去分词也不加 ge-:besuchen → besucht(拜访了)。识别前缀是可分还是不可分,是 Year 9 阶段正确动词变位的关键公式。
12. Present Perfect Tense (Perfekt) | 现在完成时
The Perfekt is the most common past tense form in spoken German. It is formed with a conjugated auxiliary verb (haben or sein) in second position, and a past participle at the end of the clause. For most verbs, use haben: Ich habe einen Film gesehen (I have seen a film). Verbs that indicate motion or change of state usually take sein: Ich bin ins Kino gegangen (I went to the cinema), Er ist eingeschlafen (He fell asleep).
完成时(Perfekt)是德语口语中最常用的过去时形式。它由位于第二位置的助动词(haben 或 sein)和位于句末的过去分词构成。大多数动词使用 haben:Ich habe einen Film gesehen(我看了一部电影)。表示移动或状态变化的动词通常用 sein:Ich bin ins Kino gegangen(我去了电影院),Er ist eingeschlafen(他睡着了)。
Regular weak verbs form the past participle by adding ge- and -t: spielen → gespielt, machen → gemacht. Strong verbs have a stem vowel change and end in -en dy pattern: the participle always sits at the very end in main clause Perfekt sentences, creating a distinctive bracket together with the auxiliary.
规则弱变化动词的过去分词由 ge- 和 -t 构成:spielen → gespielt, machen → gemacht。强变化动词会改变词干元音,并以 -en 结尾:sehen → gesehen, helfen → geholfen。混合动词兼有两类特点:bringen → gebracht, denken → gedacht。一个实用的模式是:在 Perfekt 主句中,过去分词永远处在句末,与助动词构成清晰的框架结构。
The choice between haben and sein can be remembered with the rhyme: 'motion, state change, and the verbs sein, bleiben, werden' take sein. Other verbs typically use haben. Also note that all reflexive verbs use haben: Ich habe mich geduscht (I showered). Master this formula and you can talk about everything you did yesterday, last weekend or in your last holiday.
haben 和 sein 的选择可以记住这个口诀:“表示移动、状态变化以及动词 sein、bleiben、werden”用 sein。其他动词通常用 haben。还请注意,所有反身动词都用 haben:Ich habe mich geduscht(我洗了澡)。掌握了这条公式,你就可以谈论昨天、上周末或上个假期你所做的一切。
