1. Particle Model and States of Matter | 粒子模型与物态
Matter is made up of tiny particles that are in constant motion. The forces between particles and their energy determine whether a substance is a solid, liquid, or gas.
物质由不断运动的微小粒子组成。粒子间的作用力和它们的能量决定了物质是固体、液体还是气体。
In solids, particles are tightly packed in a regular arrangement and can only vibrate. This gives solids a fixed shape and volume.
在固体中,粒子紧密排列成规则结构,只能振动。因此固体有固定的形状和体积。
In liquids, particles are close together but can move past each other, so liquids have a fixed volume but take the shape of their container.
在液体中,粒子相互靠近但可以相对移动,因此液体有固定体积,但形状随容器改变。
In gases, particles are far apart and move rapidly in all directions. Gases have no fixed shape or volume and can be compressed easily.
在气体中,粒子相距很远并快速向各个方向运动。气体没有固定的形状或体积,且容易被压缩。
2. Atoms, Elements, and Compounds | 原子、元素与化合物
An atom is the smallest particle of an element that can take part in a chemical reaction. Elements are made of only one type of atom and are listed on the periodic table.
原子是能参与化学反应的元素的最小粒子。元素由同一种原子组成,并列在元素周期表中。
Compounds are substances formed when atoms of two or more different elements are chemically joined together. The properties of a compound are different from those of its constituent elements.
化合物是由两种或多种不同元素的原子通过化学键结合而成的物质。化合物的性质与其组成元素的性质不同。
Mixtures contain different elements or compounds that are not chemically combined. They can be separated by physical methods such as filtration, distillation, or chromatography.
混合物含有未通过化学键结合的不同元素或化合物。它们可以通过过滤、蒸馏或色谱等物理方法进行分离。
3. The Periodic Table | 元素周期表
The periodic table arranges elements in order of increasing atomic number. Elements with similar chemical properties are placed in the same group (vertical column).
元素周期表按原子序数递增排列。化学性质相似的元素位于同一族(竖直列)中。
Metals are found on the left side and centre of the table, while non-metals are on the right. The noble gases (Group 0) are very unreactive because they have a full outer shell of electrons.
金属位于周期表的左侧和中部,非金属位于右侧。稀有气体(第0族)非常不活泼,因为它们具有满外层电子构型。
The group number often tells you the number of electrons in the outer shell for main group elements. For example, Group 1 elements have one outer electron, making them very reactive.
对于主族元素,族数通常表示外层电子数。例如,第1族元素有一个外层电子,使它们非常活泼。
4. Chemical Formulae and Equations | 化学式与方程式
Chemical formulae use symbols and numbers to show the types and numbers of atoms in a substance. For example, H₂O represents two hydrogen atoms and one oxygen atom.
化学式用符号和数字表示物质中原子的种类和个数。例如,H₂O 表示两个氢原子和一个氧原子。
In a balanced chemical equation, the number of atoms of each element is the same on both sides. This follows the law of conservation of mass.
在配平的化学方程式中,每种元素的原子总数在两边相等。这符合质量守恒定律。
Example equation: 2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO. Magnesium reacts with oxygen to form magnesium oxide.
示例方程式:2Mg + O₂ → 2MgO。镁与氧气反应生成氧化镁。
5. Ionic Bonding | 离子键
Ionic bonding occurs when a metal atom transfers one or more electrons to a non-metal atom. This creates oppositely charged ions that attract each other strongly.
当金属原子将一个或多个电子转移给非金属原子时,就形成离子键。这会产生带有相反电荷的离子,它们相互强烈吸引。
Metal atoms lose electrons to form positive ions (cations). For example, sodium loses one electron to become Na⁺.
金属原子失去电子形成阳离子(正离子)。例如,钠失去一个电子变成 Na⁺。
Non-metal atoms gain electrons to form negative ions (anions). Chlorine gains one electron to become Cl⁻. The resulting compound, sodium chloride (NaCl), has a giant ionic lattice structure.
非金属原子得到电子形成阴离子(负离子)。氯得到一个电子变成 Cl⁻。生成的化合物氯化钠 (NaCl) 具有巨大的离子晶格结构。
6. Covalent Bonding and Simple Molecules | 共价键与简单分子
Covalent bonding involves the sharing of electron pairs between non-metal atoms. This allows each atom to achieve a full outer shell.
共价键是非金属原子之间共用电子对。这使得每个原子都能实现满外层电子构型。
Simple molecular substances like water (H₂O), carbon dioxide (CO₂), and methane (CH₄) consist of small molecules with strong covalent bonds within the molecules but weak intermolecular forces.
像水 (H₂O)、二氧化碳 (CO₂) 和甲烷 (CH₄) 这样的简单分子物质由小分子组成,分子内部有强共价键,但分子间作用力较弱。
These weak intermolecular forces mean that simple molecular substances have low melting and boiling points, and they do not conduct electricity.
这些弱分子间作用力意味着简单分子物质具有低熔点和沸点,并且不导电。
7. Acids, Bases, and the pH Scale | 酸、碱与pH值
Acids are substances that release hydrogen ions (H⁺) when dissolved in water. They have a pH less than 7 and turn blue litmus paper red.
酸是在水中溶解时释放氢离子 (H⁺) 的物质。它们的pH值小于7,并使蓝色石蕊试纸变红。
Bases are substances that can neutralise acids. Soluble bases are called alkalis, and they release hydroxide ions (OH⁻) in water. They have a pH greater than 7 and turn red litmus paper blue.
碱是可以中和酸的物质。可溶的碱称为碱,它们在水溶液里释放氢氧根离子 (OH⁻)。它们的pH值大于7,并使红色石蕊试纸变蓝。
The pH scale ranges from 0 to 14. A pH of 7 is neutral. Universal indicator or a pH probe can be used to measure pH accurately.
pH范围从0到14。pH为7表示中性。可以使用通用指示剂或pH探头准确测量pH。
8. Neutralisation and Salts | 中和反应与盐
alkali) to produce a salt and water. The general equation is: Acid + Base → Salt + Water.
当酸与碱(或碱溶液)反应生成盐和水时,发生中和反应。通式为:酸 + 碱 → 盐 + 水。
sodium hydroxide (NaOH) to form sodium chloride (NaCl) and water: HCl + NaOH → NaCl + H₂O.
例如,盐酸 (HCl) 与氢氧化钠 (NaOH) 反应生成氯化钠 (NaCl) 和水:HCl + NaOH → NaCl + H₂O。
Different acids produce different salts. Sulfuric acid produces sulfates, nitric acid produces nitrates, and hydrochloric acid produces chlorides.
不同的酸生成不同的盐。硫酸生成硫酸盐,硝酸生成硝酸盐,盐酸生成氯化物。
9. Reactivity Series of Metals | 金属活动性顺序
The reactivity series is a list of metals arranged in order of decreasing reactivity. Potassium, sodium, and calcium are very reactive, while gold and platinum are unreactive.
金属活动性顺序是按反应性递减排列的金属列表。钾、钠和钙非常活泼,而金和铂不活泼。
More reactive metals can displace less reactive metals from their compounds. For example, iron can displace copper from copper sulfate solution because iron is more reactive than copper.
较活泼的金属可以从其化合物中置换出较不活泼的金属。例如,铁可以从硫酸铜溶液中置换出铜,因为铁比铜更活泼。
You can remember part of the series with the phrase: "Please Stop Calling Me A Careless Zebra" for Potassium, Sodium, Calcium, Magnesium, Aluminium, Carbon, Zinc. (Carbon is included for extraction purposes.)
你可以用“Please Stop Calling Me A Careless Zebra”来记住部分顺序:钾、钠、钙、镁、铝、碳、锌。(碳用于冶炼时比较。)
10. Displacement Reactions | 置换反应
A displacement reaction happens when a more reactive element takes the place of a less reactive element in a compound. This is common with metals and also with halogens.
当较活泼的元素取代化合物中较不活泼的元素时,发生置换反应。这在金属中很常见,在卤素中也是如此。
er. Zn + CuSO₄ → ZnSO₄ + Cu. The blue copper sulfate solution fades as copper metal forms.
例如,锌 + 硫酸铜 → 硫酸锌 + 铜。Zn + CuSO₄ → ZnSO₄ + Cu。蓝色的硫酸铜溶液随着铜金属的形成而褪色。
In the reactivity series, any metal above hydrogen can displace hydrogen from acids, forming a salt and hydrogen gas.
在活动性顺序中,位于氢之前的任何金属都可以从酸中置换出氢,生成盐和氢气。
11. Electrolysis Basics | 电解基础
Electrolysis is the process of using an electric current to break down an ionic compound when it is molten or dissolved in water. The compound must be an electrolyte that contains free-moving ions.
电解是利用电流分解熔融或水溶液中离子化合物的过程。该化合物必须是含有可自由移动离子的电解质。
During electrolysis, positive ions (cations) move to the negative electrode (cathode) and gain electrons (reduction). Negative ions (anions) move to the positive electrode (anode) and lose electrons (oxidation).
电解时,阳离子(正离子)移向负极(阴极)并获得电子(还原)。阴离子(负离子)移向正极(阳极)并失去电子(氧化)。
For example, in the electrolysis of molten lead(II) bromide (PbBr₂), lead forms at the cathode and bromine gas forms at the anode.
例如,在电解熔融溴化铅 (PbBr₂) 时,铅在阴极生成,溴气在阳极生成。
12. Energy Changes in Chemical Reactions | 化学反应中的能量变化
