CAIE mathematics mark schemes use a small set of letter codes. The most important are M, A and B. An M mark is a method mark, awarded for a correct approach even if the arithmetic later goes wrong. An A mark is an accuracy mark, awarded for a correct value, and it normally depends on the preceding M mark having been earned.

The two that matter most in practice are "ft" and "cao". Follow-through means an early slip does not necessarily destroy the rest of the question, which is genuinely good news; "correct answer only" means no method marks exist for that part, so a careless arithmetic slip is fatal.

6. From 130 Raw Marks to a Grade | 从 130 原始分到等级
A mark scheme gives raw marks, not grades. The 130 marks on Paper 4 are added to the 70 marks on Paper 2 to give a total out of 200, and the grade thresholds published for that session convert that total into a grade. IGCSE Mathematics grades run from A* down to E for Extended candidates.

7. What June 2022 Paper 43 Actually Tested | 2022 年 6 月第 43 卷实际考查的内容
Syllabus 0580 is deliberately broad, and Paper 4 draws from every strand of the specification. Number work, algebra, geometry and measure, coordinate geometry, trigonometry, statistics and probability all appear, usually mixed within a single multi-part question rather than isolated in neat blocks.

In Extended papers, the high-tariff questions tend to sit in a few recurring areas: forming and solving equations from a written context, direct and inverse proportion, functions and composite functions, inequalities and their representation, vectors, circle theorems, similarity and congruence, the sine and cosine rules, surface area and volume of three-dimensional solids, cumulative frequency and box-and-whisker diagrams, and probability tree diagrams.

Downloading the mark scheme is the easy part. The hard part is marking like an examiner. Set aside the original paper, work through it under timed conditions, then mark yourself in a different colour using the scheme and nothing else. Do not adjust your own answers as you go.

It shows the basis on which Examiners were instructed to award marks. It does not indicate the details of the discussions that took place at an Examiners meeting before marking began..." In the version held in our library the sentence is truncated at that point; the official wording continues "...which would have considered the acceptability of alternative answers."

In plain terms: the mark scheme records the agreed marking rules, but it does not record every alternative correct answer that examiners accepted in the room. If your solution is mathematically valid but not listed, it may still have earned full marks.

In the classroom the mark scheme does three jobs. First, it defines the minimum acceptable working for each question, which lets a teacher grade mock exams consistently across several classes. Second, it identifies which command words carry the heaviest mark tariffs, so revision time can be allocated accordingly.
