📚 Test Post: Drafting, Checking and Publishing Content on a Bilingual Education Site |
A test post is an article published not because it announces something new, but because a publishing system has to be verified before real teaching material goes live. The first version of this page carried a single line of text: "Test content". That one line did a genuine job - it proved that the database accepted input, that the template rendered, and that the page could be reached at a public URL. This expanded version keeps the same purpose and every original detail, while turning the placeholder into a working reference for editors.
1. What a Test Post Actually Is | 测试文章究竟是什么
A test post is a controlled experiment performed on live infrastructure. It is not a draft, because a draft is invisible; it is not a finished article, because it is not written for readers. It sits in the narrow space between the two: visible enough to be crawled, indexed and displayed, but provisional enough that a mistake costs nothing. Writers on exam-preparation sites are usually producing revision notes, past-paper walkthroughs and formula sheets, and a broken layout in that material damages trust quickly, so a cheap rehearsal is worth the effort.
The original version of this article had a title ("Test Post") and a body consisting only of "Test content". Everything else on the page was chrome: an advertising slot, a product card, a source label, and a contact line. That is a useful reminder that a published page is never only text. It is text plus template plus commercial modules plus contact information, and all four have to survive the same rendering path.
2. Why a Bilingual Site Needs the Rehearsal More | 双语站点为什么更需要这次彩排
When a site publishes every article in two languages, a single template change touches twice as much output. Chinese and English differ in line-height expectations, word-breaking rules, punctuation width and quotation marks, so a layout that looks perfect in one script can look cramped or broken in the other. A test post is the cheapest place to discover that the English heading wraps onto three lines on a phone while the Chinese heading wraps onto one.
There is also a checking sequence that only a bilingual page can exercise: does the language switcher point at the right URL? Does the canonical tag declare one language version as primary? Does the search description truncate gracefully in both scripts? None of these questions can be answered by reading the draft in an editor.
3. Inventory of the Original Information Points |
Before rewriting anything, list what the original page carried. Nothing below is decorative; each item is an obligation inherited by this version, and the table is the fastest way to prove that none of it was dropped.
| Original element | Detail as published | Status in this version |
| Title | Test Post | Kept, expanded into a bilingual title |
| Body | Test content | Kept as the starting point of section 1 |
| Dictionary recommendation | Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary, 10th edition, ¥169, retail platform card | Kept as editorial advice in section 8 |
| Second-hand textbook source | eBay listing for the same title, price usually below new | Kept as editorial advice in section 9 |
| Sponsorship label | Both commercial modules were marked as sponsored | Kept as a rule: commercial content must be labelled |
| Contact line | 16621398022, same number on WeChat | Kept in section 12 |
Reading the table row by row is itself a good editorial habit. If a rewrite cannot point to where each inherited item went, the rewrite has quietly deleted something.
4. The Pairing Rule: Paragraph by Paragraph |
The single most common mistake in bilingual writing is the block pattern: five English paragraphs, then five Chinese paragraphs. Readers who only want one language are fine, but anyone comparing the two has to hold five paragraphs in memory and match them by eye. The pairing rule removes that burden - every English paragraph is immediately followed by its Chinese counterpart, so the two versions can be read side by side on any screen width.
Pairing also improves accuracy. When translation happens sentence by sentence inside a paragraph, a missing clause becomes obvious. When it happens a thousand words later, the omission hides. On a revision site the stakes are concrete: an English paragraph that says "the gradient is negative" and a Chinese paragraph that says "斜率是正的" is not a style problem, it is a factual contradiction.
- One idea, two languages, adjacent blocks. |
- Lists pair item by item with a separator, not as two separate lists. |
- Table headers carry both languages in the same cell. |
- Captions, alt text and footnotes follow the same rule. |
5. Section Numbering, Dividers and Lists |
A long revision article is navigated, not read linearly. Numbered section headings give readers a map, allow deep links, and make it obvious when a sub-topic has been merged or lost during editing. Eight to twelve sections is a practical range: fewer than eight and each section becomes a wall of text, more than twelve and the table of contents stops being a summary.
Horizontal rules between sections create rhythm and give mobile readers a visual breath. Without them, two adjacent headings separated by a single line of body text visually merge. Lists should be used for genuinely enumerable content - steps, criteria, comparisons - not to break up prose that happens to contain commas.
6. Mathematics and Science Notation Without LaTeX | 不用 LaTeX 的数学与科学符号
Most education templates render plain text reliably and render mathematical markup inconsistently. The safe conventions are therefore Unicode characters typed directly into the text. Superscript digits cover powers and charges, subscript digits cover chemical formulae and index notation, and the standard operators cover almost everything an A-level page needs.
a² + b² = c² v = u + at s = ut + ½at² v² = u² + 2as
2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O N₂ + 3H₂ ⇌ 2NH₃ ΔH = −92 kJ mol⁻¹
PV = nRT pH = −log₁₀[H⁺] ΔG = ΔH − TΔS A = A₀ × 2⁻ⁿ
sagree. Second, keep units upright and separated by a thin space: 9.81 m s⁻², not 9.81ms-2. Third, use × for multiplication in numerical contexts and reserve the dot for decimal points, so that 3 × 10⁸ does not read as 3.10⁸.
- Powers and charges: ² ³ ⁻¹ ⁺ ⁰ |
- Relations and arrows: = ≠ ≈ < > ≤ ≥ → ⇌ ↔ |
- Operators and constants: × ÷ ± √ ∫ Δ Σ π θ ° |
7. Worked Example: Checking a Formula on the Page |
quations used in mechanics. With u = 4 m s⁻¹, a = 2 m s⁻² and t = 5 s, the first equation gives v = 4 + 2 × 5 = 14 m s⁻¹. The second gives s = 4 × 5 + ½ × 2 × 5² = 20 + 25 = 45 m. The third should agree independently: v² = u² + 2as gives 196 = 16 + 2 × 2 × 45 = 196.
Agreement across two independent routes is exactly the standard a test page should enforce, because the point of a rehearsal is not that the page exists but that the page is trustworthy. The same discipline applies in chemistry, where an equation must balance in both atoms and charge before it is published.
2H₂ + O₂ → 2H₂O check H: 4 = 4 check O: 2 = 2
8. Reference Tools: Why the Dictionary Still Matters |
An education site that publishes in English needs at least one authoritative dictionary within arm's reach, because the difference between "affect" and "effect", or between "rate" and "constant", is a subject-matter question when it appears in a physics sentence. The Oxford Advanced Learner's English-Chinese Dictionary, 10th edition, is the reference the original version of this page recommended, listed at ¥169. It is a sensible choice for bilingual study: English definitions for precision, Chinese equivalents for speed.
Used well, a dictionary settles three recurring editorial debates: which preposition follows a technical verb, whether a term is countable in this context, and whether a Chinese gloss carries the same register as the English headword. The third is the one that matters most on a revision site, because a formal definition should never be translated with a casual word.
9. Where Textbooks and Reference Books Come From | 教材与参考书的来源
Students buying their own copies have three practical routes: new from a bookshop, new from an online retailer, or second-hand. The original version of this page pointed to a second-hand and international-edition marketplace, where copies of a given title are usually listed for noticeably less than the new price. That advice still holds, provided the buyer checks three things first.
- Edition and printing year, because exercise numbering changes between editions. |
- ISBN, which uniquely identifies the exact printing and its associated answer key. | ISBN,
- Whether the copy is an international edition, which may differ in cover, pagination or included online access codes. |
Price comparison takes two minutes and routinely saves a third of the cost. What it should never do is trade away the edition that a syllabus actually specifies - a cheaper copy of the wrong edition costs more than the right one.
10. The Pre-Publish Checklist |
Every item below is something a test post is meant to catch before it reaches a real article. Run the list once on the test page, and the same list works when a full revision guide is published months later.
| Check | Pass condition |
| Title | English first, Chinese second, separated by a pipe; no emoji |
| Pairing | No English block longer than one paragraph without its Chinese match |
| Sections | 8 to 12 numbered sections, each closed by a horizontal rule |
| Notation | Unicode superscripts and subscripts; no LaTeX delimiters anywhere |
| Quotation marks | Straight quotes only, so code snippets survive copying |
| Commercial modules | Any sponsored block is labelled as sponsored and does not interrupt a formula |
| Contact block | Present, correct, and visually separated from the article body |
| Mobile view | Tables scroll, formulas do not overflow, both scripts wrap cleanly |
11. After Publishing: Keep the Test Post Alive |
A test post is more valuable as a permanent fixture than as a one-off. When a template is upgraded
