1. Forces and Motion Vocabulary | 力与运动词汇
Let us begin with the words you need to describe pushes, pulls and movement. When you talk about forces, remember to use the correct unit – newtons (N). Speak clearly: 'force' rhymes with 'horse', and 'newton' sounds like 'new-tun'. Listen carefully for these words in descriptions of experiments.
我们先来学习描述推、拉和运动所需的词汇。当谈论力时,记住使用正确的单位——牛顿(N)。发音要清晰:‘force’ 与 ‘horse’ 押韵,‘newton’ 听起来像 ‘new-tun’。在听实验描述时要仔细听出这些词语。
- force – a push or a pull (力)
- newton – the unit of force (牛顿)
- friction – a force that opposes motion (摩擦力)
- gravity – the force that pulls objects towards the Earth (重力)
- weight – the force of gravity on an object, measured in newtons (重量)
- mass – the amount of matter in an object, measured in kilograms (质量)
- balanced forces – when forces cancel each other out (平衡力)
- unbalanced forces – when one force is bigger, causing a change in motion (非平衡力)
Now practise saying: 'The weight of the apple is about one newton. Its mass is one hundred grams.' Listen to your partner say a sentence and identify if they mean mass or weight.
现在练习说:‘The weight of the apple is about one newton. Its mass is one hundred grams.’ 听你的同伴说一个句子,然后辨别他们指的是质量还是重量。
2. Describing Motion: Speed and Direction | 描述运动:速度与方向
Motion can be described in everyday words and in scientific language. For speaking tasks, you need to use terms like 'constant speed', 'accelerate', and 'decelerate' correctly. When listening, pick out the key numbers (metres per second) and direction words (forwards, backwards, turn).
运动既可以用日常语言也可以用科学语言描述。在口语任务中,你需要正确使用‘constant speed’、‘accelerate’、‘decelerate’等术语。在听力时,要抓住关键数字(米每秒)和方向词(向前、向后、转弯)。
Example listening clip: 'The car moved at a constant speed of 10 m/s for 5 seconds, then accelerated to 20 m/s in 2 seconds before decelerating to a stop.' Your task: answer 'What was the initial constant speed?' and 'How long did the acceleration take?'
听力片段示例:‘The car moved at a constant speed of 10 m/s for 5 seconds, then accelerated to 20 m/s in 2 seconds before decelerating to a stop.’ 你的任务:回答‘初始的恒定速度是多少?’以及‘加速用了多长时间?’
- speed – how fast something is moving (速率)
- constant speed – speed stays the same (恒定速度)
- accelerate – to increase speed (加速)
- decelerate – to decrease speed (减速)
- velocity – speed in a given direction (速度,含方向)
In a speaking exercise, describe a journey you make to school using at least three of the words above. For example: 'I start from rest, accelerate as I walk, walk at a constant speed along the straight road, then decelerate at the school gate.'
在口语练习中,用上述至少三个词语描述你上学的一段路程。例如:‘I start from rest, accelerate as I walk, walk at a constant speed along the straight road, then decelerate at the school gate.’
3. Gravity, Mass and Weight – Clear Distinction | 重力、质量与重量——清晰区分
Many students confuse mass and weight in conversation. In a listening test, you might hear a question like: 'Would your mass or your weight change on the Moon?' Practise answering out loud: 'My mass would stay the same because mass is the amount of matter. My weight would be less because the Moon’s gravity is weaker.'
许多学生在交流中混淆质量和重量。听力测试中你可能会听到这样的问题:‘在月球上你的质量还是重量会改变?’ 练习大声回答:‘我的质量会保持不变,因为质量是物质的多少。我的重量会变小,因为月球的重力较弱。’
The relationship is given by the equation:
Weight (N) = mass (kg) × gravitational field strength (N/kg)
On Earth, gravitational field strength is about 10 N/kg. So a 2 kg bag of sugar has a weight of about 20 N. When speaking, always say the unit: 'The weight is twenty newtons.'
在地球上,重力场强度约为 10 N/kg。因此一袋 2 kg 的糖的重量约为 20 N。口头表达时,一定要说出单位:‘重量是二十牛顿。’
Listening practice: 'A rock has a mass of 5 kg. What is its weight on Earth?' Pause the recording and say your answer. Then check: 5 kg × 10 N/kg = 50 N.
听力练习:‘一块岩石的质量是 5 kg。它在地球上的重量是多少?’ 暂停录音并说出你的答案。然后检查:5 kg × 10 N/kg = 50 N。
4. Friction and Everyday Situations | 摩擦力与日常情景
Friction can be helpful or unwanted. In a speaking task, you might be asked to give examples. Prepare clear sentences: 'Friction between our shoes and the ground stops us from slipping. However, friction in a car engine wastes energy as heat.' Listening for contrasts – words like 'useful', 'harmful', 'reduces', 'increases' – will help you catch the main idea.
摩擦力可能有益也可能不受欢迎。在口语任务中,你可能会被要求举例。请准备清晰的句子:‘鞋与地面之间的摩擦力防止我们滑倒。但汽车发动机中的摩擦力会以热能形式浪费能量。’ 听出对比——如‘useful’、‘harmful’、‘reduces’、‘increases’——有助于你抓住主旨。
Key vocabulary to say aloud:
- grip – the friction that helps hold things (抓力)
- lubricant – a substance that reduces friction (润滑剂)
- air resistance – friction caused by air (空气阻力)
- streamlined – shaped to reduce air resistance (流线型的)
Listen to a passage about a bicycle race. Identify two ways the cyclist reduces friction and one way friction helps.
听一段关于自行车比赛的短文。找出骑手减少摩擦力的两种方法,以及摩擦力有帮助的一种方式。
5. Energy Types and Transfers – Speaking Fluently | 能量类型与转移——流利表达
When discussing energy, you need to name types clearly: kinetic, thermal (heat), sound, light, electrical, chemical, gravitational potential, elastic potential. Practise pronunciation: kinetic 'ki-NE-tik', potential 'po-TEN-shul'. In a listening task, you may hear a description of an energy chain. For example: 'A battery stores chemical energy. When connected to a bulb, the chemical energy is transferred to electrical energy, which the bulb converts to light and thermal energy.'
讨论能量时,你需要清楚地命名各类能量:动能、热能、声能、光能、电能、化学能、重力势能、弹性势能。练习发音:kinetic ‘ki-NE-tik’,potential ‘po-TEN-shul’。在听力任务中,你可能会听到能量链的描述。例如:‘电池储存化学能。当连接到灯泡时,化学能转换为电能,电能再被灯泡转化为光能和热能。’
Practise saying energy transfers for common devices:
- Torch: chemical energy → electrical energy → light + thermal energy
- Catapult: elastic potential energy → kinetic energy
- Microphone: sound energy → electrical energy
练习说出常见装置的能量转移:
- 手电筒:化学能 → 电能 → 光能 + 热能
- 弹弓:弹性势能 → 动能
- 麦克风:声能 → 电能
In a speaking test, you might be asked: 'Explain what happens to the energy when a ball is kicked upwards.' Give a fluent answer: 'At the start, the ball has kinetic energy. As it rises, kinetic energy is transferred to gravitational potential energy. At the highest point, it has maximum gravitational potential energy and zero kinetic energy. As it falls, gravitational potential energy changes back to kinetic energy.'
在口语测试中,你可能会被问到:‘解释当球被踢高时能量发生了什么。’ 流利作答:‘开始时,球具有动能。上升过程中,动能转化为重力势能。在最高点,重力势能最大,动能为零。下落时,重力势能又变回动能。’
6. Electricity: Circuits and Components | 电路与元件
Speaking about circuits requires precise vocabulary. You must know the symbols and names of components: cell, battery, switch, lamp, resistor, variable resistor, ammeter, voltmeter, wire. In a listening test, instructions such as 'connect the ammeter in series' or 'measure the potential difference across the lamp' might be given. Understand the difference between series and parallel circuits and be able to describe them aloud.
谈论电路需要准确的词汇。你必须知道元件的符号和名称:电池、蓄电池、开关、灯泡、固定电阻、可变电阻、电流表、电压表、导线。在听力测试中,可能会出现‘将电流表串联’或‘测量灯泡两端的电势差’这样的指令。要理解串联和并联电路的区别,并能口头描述它们。
Key phrases to say and listen for:
- series circuit – a single loop (串联电路)
- parallel circuit – more than one loop (并联电路)
- current – flow of electric charge, measured in amperes (A) (电流)
- potential difference (voltage) – energy per charge, measured in volts (V) (电势差)
- resistance – opposition to current, measured in ohms (Ω) (电阻)
Practise this spoken description: 'In a series circuit, the current is the same everywhere. If one lamp breaks, all lamps go out. In a parallel circuit, the current splits at junctions, and if one lamp breaks, the others stay on.'
练习这段口头描述:‘在串联电路中,各处电流相同。如果一个灯泡损坏,所有灯泡都会熄灭。在并联电路中,电流在分支点分叉,如果一个灯泡损坏,其他灯泡仍然亮着。’
7. Using Measuring Instruments – What You Might Hear | 使用测量仪器——你可能会听到的内容
In a listening exam, you might be asked to follow instructions to take readings. Be ready for terms like: zero error, parallax error, digital, analogue, scale, reading, meniscus. For a practical speaking task, you may need to explain how you used a newton meter, ruler, stopwatch, or ammeter. Speak in full sentences: 'I placed the block on the scale and read the mass in kilograms. I avoided parallax error by looking straight at the pointer.'
在听力考试中,你可能会被要求跟随指令读取读数。准备好听到这些术语:zero error(零误差)、parallax error(视差)、digital(数字的)、analogue(模拟的)、scale(刻度)、reading(读数)、meniscus(弯液面)。对于实践口语任务,你可能需要解释如何使用弹簧秤、尺子、秒表或电流表。用完整的句子说:‘我将木块放在秤上,以千克为单位读取质量。我通过直视指针来避免视差。’
Listen to a lab scene: 'Set up the circuit with an ammeter in series. Record the current when the switch is closed. Then connect a voltmeter in parallel across the lamp and note the voltage.' Practise repeating the instructions to a partner.
听一段实验场景:‘用电流表串联连接电路。闭合开关,记录电流。然后将电压表并联在灯泡两端,记下电压。’ 练习向同伴重复这些指令。
8. Magnetism and Electromagnets – Talking About Forces | 磁性与电磁铁——谈论力
Magnets attract materials like iron, nickel and cobalt. When speaking, distinguish between 'magnetic' and 'non-magnetic'. In a listening task, you might hear about an experiment with an electromagnet. Key words: iron core, coil, solenoid, increasing the number of turns, increasing the current. Practise saying: 'The strength of an electromagnet can be increased by adding more turns to the coil or by increasing the current.'
磁铁吸引铁、镍、钴等材料。口语表达时要区分 ‘magnetic’(有磁性的)和 ‘non-magnetic’(无磁性的)。在听力任务中,你可能会听到关于电磁铁的实验。关键词:iron core(铁芯)、coil(线圈)、solenoid(螺线管)、增加线圈匝数、增大电流。练习说:‘增加线圈匝数或增大电流可以增强电磁铁的强度。’
Use clear comparisons in your answers: 'A permanent magnet always has a magnetic field. An electromagnet only has a magnetic field when current flows.'
在你的回答中清楚地使用对比:‘永磁体始终有磁场。电磁体只在有电流通过时才有磁场。’
9. Light and Sound – Describing Phenomena | 光与声——描述现象
For speaking and listening, you need to describe how light travels and how we see. Say: 'Light travels in straight lines. We see non-luminous objects because light reflects off them into our eyes.' Listen for the difference between 'reflection' and 'refraction'. In a spoken description of the eye, you might use: cornea, iris, lens, retina, optic nerve.
在口语和听力中,你需要描述光如何传播以及我们如何看见。说:‘光沿直线传播。我们看到非发光物体是因为光从它们表面反射到我们眼中。’ 注意听 ‘reflection’(反射)和 ‘refraction’(折射)的区别。在口头描述眼睛时,你可能会用到:角膜、虹膜、晶状体、视网膜、视神经。
Sound vocabulary: vibration, medium, vacuum, pitch, loudness, amplitude, frequency. Practise saying: 'Sound cannot travel through a vacuum because there are no particles to vibrate.' In a listening task, identify whether a change is described as 'pitch' or 'loudness'.
声音词汇:振动、介质、真空、音调、响度、振幅、频率。练习说:‘声音不能在真空中传播,因为没有振动的粒子。’ 在听力任务中,辨别所描述的变化是‘音调’还是‘响度’。
10. Scientific Enquiry and Experiment Language | 科学探究与实验用语
Many speaking assessments ask you to talk through an investigation. Useful sentence starters: 'I predict that...', 'The independent variable is...', 'The dependent variable is...', 'We kept ... the same to make it a fair test', 'My results show that...'. Listen for these phrases in instructions: 'Write a hypothesis', 'Identify the control variables', 'Draw a conclusion from the data'.
许多口语评估要求你讲述一个探究过程。有用的开头句:‘我预测……’、‘自变量是……’、‘因变量是……’、‘我们保持……不变以确保公平测试’、‘我的结果显示……’。在指令中注意听这些短语:‘写出假设’、‘找出控制变量’、‘根据数据得出结论’。
In a typical speaking task: 'Describe an experiment to investigate how the length of a wire affects its resistance.' Answer: ' ependent variable was the resistance, calculated by R = V ÷ I. We kept the type of wire and temperature constant. We found that as the length increased, the resistance increased.'
在典型的口语任务中:‘描述一个实验,探究导线长度如何影响其电阻。’ 回答:‘我们搭建了一个电路,包括电阻丝、串联的电流表和并联的电压表。自变量是导线的长度。因变量是电阻,通过 R = V ÷ I 计算得到。我们保持导线种类和温度不变。我们发现随着长度增加,电阻也增加。’
11. Presentation Skills – Explaining a Concept Clearly | 展示技巧——清晰地解释概念
When you give a short spoken presentation on a physics topic, structure it well: introduction, main points, conclusion. For example, on 'Energy Saving': 'Today I will talk about three ways to save energy at home. First, use LED bulbs because they convert more electrical energy to light and less to heat. Second, insulate your loft to reduce thermal energy transfer. Third, turn off appliances at the plug to stop standby power consumption. In conclusion, small changes can make a big difference.'
当你就某个物理话题进行简短的口头展示时,要有条理:引言、主要观点、结论。例如,主题为‘节能’:‘今天我将谈论在家节约能源的三种方法。第一,使用 LED 灯泡,因为它们能将更多电能转化为光能,更少转为热能。第二,给你的阁楼加装隔热层以减少热能散失。第三,关闭插座上的电器以杜绝待机耗电。总之,小改变能带来大不同。’
Practise with a timer. Speak for one minute on 'Why friction is important'. Remember to make eye contact (even in online exams pretend to look at the camera) and vary your tone.
用计时器练习。就‘为什么摩擦力很重要’发表一分钟讲话。记住要与观众目光接触(即使在线考试也要看摄像头),并变换语调。
12. Listening Strategies and Common Pitfalls | 听力策略与常见误区
Before listening, read the questions carefully to know what information you need. Listen for signpost words: 'firstly', 'the main reason', 'however', 'as a result'. Units are often tested – listen for whether the speaker says 'metres per second' or 'kilometres per hour', 'grams' or 'kilograms'. Watch out for distractors: a speaker might mention a wrong number first and then correct themselves. For example: 'The mass was 50 grams... no, sorry, 55 grams.' The correct answer is 55 g.
在听力开始前,仔细阅读问题以了解你需要什么信息。注意听路标词:‘firstly’、‘the main reason’、‘however’、‘as a result’。常考单位——注意听说话者说的是‘metres per second’还是‘kilometres per hour’,‘grams’还是‘kilograms’。小心干扰信息:说话者可能会先提到一个错误数字然后更正。例如:‘The mass was 50 grams... no, sorry, 55 grams.’ 正确答案是 55 g。
If you miss something, stay calm and use context clues. For speaking, if you forget a word, paraphrase: e.g. instead of 'lubricant', say 'a substance like oil that makes surfaces smooth'.
如果你漏听了某些内容,保持冷静,利用上下文线索。口语时如果忘记一个单词,可以换一种说法:比如用‘像油那样使表面光滑的物质’代替 ‘lubricant’。
Above all, practise regularly. Read your physics notes out loud, record yourself explaining a topic, and listen back. This will train your ear and your voice at the same time.
最重要的是,定期练习。大声朗读你的物理笔记,录下自己解释某个话题的声音然后回听。这样能同时锻炼你的听力和口语能力。
