📚 Exam Techniques and Marking Criteria for Year 8 CIE Psychology | Year 8 CIE 心理学答题技巧与评分标准

Mastering exam techniques and understanding marking criteria are essential for success in Year 8 CIE Psychology. This guide walks you through how to interpret questions, structure your answers, apply psychological knowledge to unseen scenarios, and meet the expectations that examiners actually reward.

掌握答题技巧并理解评分标准,对于在 Year 8 CIE 心理学中取得好成绩至关重要。本指南将带你了解如何解读问题、组织答案、把心理学知识应用到未见过的情境中,并真正满足考官的给分期待。

Many students know the content but lose marks because their answers are vague, unstructured or written in the wrong direction. This article separates the two skills: knowing psychology, and showing psychology.

许多学生其实掌握了知识,却因为答案含糊、缺乏结构或写偏方向而丢分。本文把两项能力分开来讲:一是"懂心理学",二是"把心理学展示出来"。

1. Why Exam Technique Matters in Year 8 CIE Psychology | 为什么答题技巧在 Year 8 CIE 心理学中如此重要

Year 8 Psychology is the stage at which you move from simply remembering facts to using them. Examiners are no longer satisfied with a correct definition; they want to see that you can pick the right concept, apply it to the case in front of you, and comment on how good the evidence is.

Year 8 心理学正是你从"记住事实"走向"运用事实"的阶段。考官不再满足于一个正确的定义,他们想看到你能挑出正确的概念、把它套用到眼前的案例上,并对证据的质量做出评论。

Two students can revise the same content and finish with very different marks. The difference is usually technique: one writes in full sentences that answer the command word, the other writes a paragraph of loosely related facts.

两个学生复习同样的内容,最终分数却可能相差很大。差别通常就在技巧上:一个用完整句子直接回应命令词,另一个只是写了一大段与题目关系松散的事实。

Technique is also the fastest thing to improve. Content revision takes weeks, but learning how to plan a six-mark answer can lift your grade in a single afternoon.

技巧也是提升最快的一环。补内容是几周的功夫,而学会如何规划一道 6 分题,一个下午就能见效。

Marks = Knowledge × Relevance × Structure

分数 = 知识 × 相关性 × 结构

2. Understanding the Exam Structure and Question Types | 了解考试结构与题型

Year 8 CIE Psychology assessments often consist of two sections: Section A includes short-answer questions testing key terms and basic concepts, while Section B presents scenarios or research descriptions requiring longer, structured responses.

Year 8 CIE 心理学评估通常包含两部分:A 部分为短答题,测试关键术语和基本概念;B 部分则提供场景或研究描述,要求写出较长且有结构的回答。

Section A is usually worth fewer marks per question but covers more of the specification. Answers can be one word, one phrase or one sentence. Do not over-write here: a one-mark question needs one clear point, not three half-formed ones.

A 部分每题分值通常较低,但覆盖的考纲内容更广。答案可以是词、短语或一句话。这里不要写太多:1 分的题只需要一个清晰要点,而不是三个半成形的想法。

Section B questions typically carry three to six marks and may be split into parts, for example (a) describe the study, (b) explain how it supports a theory, (c) evaluate its methodology. Each part is marked against its own command word, so the style of your answer should change from part to part.

B 部分的题目通常每题 3 到 6 分,并可能拆成小问,例如 (a) 描述该研究,(b) 解释它如何支持某一理论,(c) 评价其研究方法。每一小问都按各自的命令词评分,所以你的答题风格也应随之变化。

The table below summarises what each section usually asks for.

下表总结了各部分通常考查的内容。

FeatureSection ASection B
Focus 重点Key terms, definitions, short descriptionsScenarios, studies, structured explanations
Typical marks 常见分值1 mark per point3 to 6 marks per question
Answer length 答题长度A word, phrase or single sentenceTwo to four short paragraphs, or a level-marked response
Main risk 主要风险Writing too much, wasting timeDescribing instead of explaining or evaluating

Read the whole paper before writing. Knowing that Section B contains a long evaluation question helps you decide where to spend the final twenty minutes.

动笔前先通读全卷。知道 B 部分有一道长评价题,能帮你决定最后二十分钟该花在哪里。

3. The Three Assessment Objectives: AO1, AO2 and AO3 | 三大评价目标:AO1、AO2 与 AO3

Questions are designed to assess three Assessment Objectives: AO1 (Knowledge and Understanding), AO2 (Application) and AO3 (Analysis and Evaluation). Understanding what each objective requires will help you tailor your answers.

题目旨在评估三个评价目标:AO1(知识与理解)、AO2(应用)和 AO3(分析与评价)。了解每个目标的要求有助于你调整答题方式。

A useful way to remember the difference is that AO1 answers the question 'What is it?', AO2 answers 'How does it explain this case?', and AO3 answers 'How good is the evidence, and so what?'.

记住三者区别的一个实用方法是:AO1 回答"它是什么?",AO2 回答"它如何解释这个案例?",AO3 回答"这个证据有多好,又意味着什么?"。

AOMeaning (English)含义 (中文)Typical Questions典型问题
AO1Recall and describe psychological theories, studies and terms.回忆并描述心理学理论、研究和术语。"Describe the multi-store model of memory.""描述记忆的多重储存模型。"
AO2Apply knowledge to given scenarios or novel situations.将知识应用于给定场景或新情境。"Explain how Luke's behaviour can be explained using social learning theory.""解释如何用社会学习理论说明卢克的行为。"
AO3Analyse and evaluate studies, including strengths, weaknesses and ethical issues.分析与评价研究,包括优点、缺点和伦理问题。"Evaluate the reliability of Milgram's obedience study.""评价米尔格拉姆服从研究的可靠性。"

In a well-written long answer you will often use all three in sequence: define the concept (AO1), apply it to the character in the scenario (AO2), then judge how convincing the explanation is (AO3).

在一篇写得好的长答案中,你常常会依次用到三者:先界定概念(AO1),再将其应用到情境中的人物身上(AO2),最后判断这个解释有多令人信服(AO3)。

Mark schemes often list AO1 and AO2 marks separately, for example '3 marks AO1, 3 marks AO2'. If you only define concepts and never mention the scenario, you cap your mark at half.

评分方案常把 AO1 与 AO2 的分值分开列出,例如"3 分 AO1,3 分 AO2"。如果你只定义概念却从不提及情境,你的分数最多只能拿到一半。

4. Mastering Command Words: Describe, Explain and Evaluate | 掌握命令词:描述、解释与评价

Exam questions always contain a command word that tells you exactly what to do. Misinterpreting the command word is one of the most common reasons for losing marks, because a brilliant answer to the wrong question earns nothing.

考试题目总会包含一个命令词,明确告诉你该做什么。误读命令词是最常见的失分原因之一,因为"答得很精彩但答错了题"一分不得。

Describe asks for features, stages or events in order: what happens, in what sequence. Explain asks for a reason or mechanism, and almost always needs the connective 'because'. Evaluate asks you to weigh strengths against weaknesses and reach a judgement.

Describe(描述)要求给出特征、阶段或事件顺序:发生了什么,按什么顺序发生。Explain(解释)要求给出原因或机制,几乎总是需要"因为"这个连接词。Evaluate(评价)要求你在优点与缺点之间权衡,并给出判断。

Command wordWhat it demands中文说明Structure to use
State / Identify / NameOne correct term or point, no explanation needed.写出一个正确的术语或要点,无需解释。Single word or short phrase.
DescribeSay what something is or what happens, in detail.详细说明某事物是什么或发生了什么。Point + detail + example.
ExplainGive reasons, causes or mechanisms.给出理由、原因或机制。Point + 'because' + consequence.
SuggestApply your knowledge to a new situation.把知识应用到新情境中。Use the scenario name + concept + link.
Evaluate / DiscussStrengths and weaknesses, then a conclusion.优点与缺点,然后得出结论。Balanced paragraphs + 'Overall...'

A quick test: if your sentence would still make sense with the word 'because' removed, you probably described rather than explained.

一个快速自测法:如果把你句子里"因为"删掉,句子依然说得通,那你多半是在描述而不是解释。

Notice also the small words inside a question: 'and' means both parts must be addressed, while 'use the study by...' means your answer must name that study.

还要留意题目中的小词:"and"表示两部分都必须作答,而"use the study by..."表示你的答案必须点出那项研究。

5. How Marks Are Awarded: Point Marking and Level Marking | 评分方式:按点给分与分级给分

Short-answer questions are usually point marked. Each creditworthy statement earns one mark, and examiners tick each distinct point once. Repeating the same idea in different words still only earns one mark.

短答题通常采用"按点给分"。每个可得分陈述得 1 分,考官对每个不同要点只打一次钩。换个说法重复同一个意思,仍然只得 1 分。

Longer questions are often level marked. The examiner reads the whole answer, decides which level descriptor it best fits, and then chooses a mark within that level. Typical descriptors for a six-mark question look like this.

较长的题目常采用"分级给分"。考官通读整份答案,判断它最符合哪一档描述,然后在该档内选一个具体分数。一道 6 分题的典型档次描述如下。

LevelDescriptor (English)档次描述(中文)Marks
Level 3Accurate, detailed, well-applied to the scenario, with justified evaluation.准确、详细,与情境结合良好,并有论证充分的评价。5-6
Level 2Mostly accurate with some application, but evaluation is limited or asserted.大体准确并有一定应用,但评价有限或只是断言。3-4
Level 1Simple statements, little or no application, no evaluation.只有简单陈述,几乎没有应用,也没有评价。1-2
0Nothing creditworthy, or the answer is off topic.没有可得分内容,或答案跑题。0

The practical lesson is that coverage matters as much as depth. An answer that defines one concept beautifully but ignores the rest of the question will sit in Level 2, whereas a broader answer with a clear judgement can reach the top level.

实际的启示是:覆盖面和深度同样重要。一个把某个概念写得极漂亮却忽略题目其余部分的答案只能停在第二档;而覆盖面更广、并给出明确判断的答案则可能进入最高档。

Always write a final sentence that directly answers the question. 'Overall, the explanation is useful because...' tells the examiner which level you belong in.

务必写一句直接回应题目的结论句。"总体而言,这个解释是有用的,因为……"这类句子会告诉考官你属于哪一档。

6. Structuring Your Answers: PEEL and the Paragraph Plan | 组织答案:PEEL 与段落规划

The PEEL structure - Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link - keeps every paragraph on task and shows the examiner your reasoning step by step.

PEEL 结构——观点(Point)、证据(Evidence)、解释(Explanation)、回扣(Link)——能让每一段都不跑题,并逐层向考官展示你的推理过程。

A model AO2 paragraph might read: 'Luke is likely to imitate the aggression (Point) because he has observed his older brother being rewarded for shouting (Evidence). This supports social learning theory because vicarious reinforcement makes the behaviour more likely to be reproduced (Explanation). This explains why Luke copied the behaviour at school rather than at home (Link).'

一个 AO2 示范段落可以这样写:"卢克很可能会模仿这种攻击行为(观点),因为他观察到哥哥因大喊大叫而获得奖励(证据)。这支持社会学习理论,因为替代性强化会让该行为更可能被重现(解释)。这解释了为什么卢克是在学校而不是在家里模仿这一行为(回扣)。"

Use signposting words to make your structure visible: 'Firstly', 'In addition', 'However', 'This suggests that', 'Overall'. These phrases cost you nothing and help the examiner follow your argument on a first reading.

用提示性词语让结构显形:"首先"、"此外"、"然而"、"这表明"、"总体而言"。这些词不花你任何代价,却能帮考官第一遍阅读就跟上你的论证。

One idea per paragraph. Long, undivided blocks of text hide your good points, and hidden points do not earn marks.

一段一个观点。长而不分段的大块文字会掩盖你的好观点,而被掩盖的观点不会得分。

7. Applying Psychology to Scenarios (AO2 Skills) | 把心理学应用到情境中(AO2 技巧)

AO2 questions give you a short story about a named person - Luke, Aisha, Mr Chen - and ask you to use psychology to explain it. The mark scheme usually rewards a specific link between a named concept and a specific detail from the scenario.

AO2 题会给你一段关于某个人物的小故事——卢克、艾莎、陈先生——并要求你用心理学去解释它。评分方案通常会奖励"把某个具体概念与情境中的某个具体细节相连接"的写法。

There are three simple steps. First, underline the key facts in the scenario: who did what, when, and what happened next. Second, choose the concept that fits those facts best. Third, write the link explicitly, using the person's name.

有三个简单步骤。第一,划出情境中的关键事实:谁做了什么、什么时候、之后发生了什么。第二,选出最契合这些事实的概念。第三,明确写出联系,并点出人物的名字。

Concept + Scenario Detail + Consequence = AO2 Mark

概念 + 情境细节 + 结果 = AO2 得分

Weak: 'Social learning theory says children copy role models.' Strong: 'Luke copied his brother because his brother is a role model who was rewarded, so Luke expected the same reward.' The second version names the person and the mechanism.

弱写法:"社会学习理论认为儿童会模仿榜样。"强写法:"卢克模仿哥哥,因为哥哥是获得奖励的榜样,所以卢克期待同样的奖励。"第二种写出了人物和机制。

If a scenario includes two people behaving differently, resist explaining only one. Compare them, and use a concept that accounts for both, such as reinforcement, attention or obedience to authority.

如果情境中有两个人表现不同,不要只解释一个。把他们做比较,并使用能同时解释两者的概念,例如强化、注意或对权威的服从。

8. Evaluating Studies: Strengths, Weaknesses and Ethics (AO3) | 评价研究:优点、缺点与伦理(AO3)

Evaluation questions ask how good a piece of research is. The strongest answers judge specific features of the study - its sample, method, controls, reliability, validity and ethics - rather than offering generic comments such as 'it was good'.

评价题问的是一项研究有多好。最好的答案会评判研究的具体特征——样本、方法、控制、信度、效度和伦理——而不是写"它很好"这类空泛评论。

Use a simple evaluation checklist, and choose the two or three features most relevant to the question. A question that mentions 'reliability' should be answered with standardisation, controls, repeated procedures and consistent results, not with ethics.

使用一份简单的评价清单,并挑出与题目最相关的两三个特征。若题目提及"信度",就应围绕标准化、控制变量、可重复的程序和一致的结果作答,而不是去谈伦理。

CriterionAsk yourself中文要点
Sample 样本Who took part, how many, and can the results be generalised?被试是谁、多少人、结果能否推广?
Reliability 信度Would the same procedure produce the same result again?同样的程序再做一次,结果会一致吗?
Validity 效度Did it measure what it claimed to measure, or did demand characteristics distort it?它测的是它声称要测的东西吗?是否被需求特征扭曲?
Ethics 伦理Was consent informed? Was deception necessary? Was harm avoided? Were participants debriefed?是否知情同意?欺骗是否必要?是否避免伤害?是否事后说明?

Ethical evaluation is often the easiest route to AO3 marks. The standard principles are informed consent, the right to withdraw, confidentiality, protection from harm, avoidance of unnecessary deception, and a full debrief.

伦理性评价往往是拿 AO3 分数最容易的途径。标准原则包括知情同意、有权退出、保密、保护被试免受伤害、避免不必要的欺骗,以及完整的事后说明。

Finally, always add a judgement. 'This means the findings may not apply to all children, so the theory is supported only for boys of that age' is an evaluation; a list of weaknesses without a conclusion is only half an answer.

最后,一定要加上判断。"这意味着研究结论可能不适用于所有儿童,因此该理论只在该年龄段的男孩中得到支持"——这才是评价;只罗列缺点而不下结论,只是半个答案。

9. Using Key Terms and Research Evidence Accurately | 准确使用术语与研究证据

Psychology rewards precision. 'The brain remembers things' earns nothing, while 'information is transferred from short-term memory to long-term memory by rehearsal' earns credit for AO1.

心理学奖励精确表达。"大脑会记住东西"不得分,而"信息通过复述从短时记忆转移到长时记忆"则能拿到 AO1 的分。

Learn a small core vocabulary thoroughly: encoding, capacity, duration, rehearsal, schema, reinforcement, imitation, obedience, conformity, attachment, and the ethical principles listed above. Being able to define and use these terms fluently covers a large share of the paper.

把一套核心词汇彻底掌握:编码、容量、持续时间、复述、图式、强化、模仿、服从、从众、依恋,以及上文列出的伦理原则。能流利定义并使用这些术语,就覆盖了试卷中很大一部分内容。

Name your studies. 'Milgram found that participants continued to give shocks when instructed by an authority figure' is worth more than 'a study showed people obey'. Precision also protects you if the examiner is unsure whether you mean obedience or conformity.

点出研究名称。"米尔格拉姆发现,当权威人物下达指令时,被试仍会继续施加电击"比"有研究显示人们会服从"更值分。精确还能在考官分不清你指服从还是从众时保护你。

Do not invent statistics or studies. An answer that cites a result that never happened will lose credit and can undermine the credible points around it.

不要编造数据或研究。引用一个从未存在过的结果会丢分,还可能连累周围可信的要点。

10. Time Management and Exam-Day Strategy | 时间管理与考试策略

A reliable rule is one mark per minute, plus five minutes at the start for reading and five at the end for checking. A 60-minute paper with 50 marks therefore leaves roughly 50 minutes of writing time.

一个可靠的规则是:1 分对应 1 分钟,另加开头 5 分钟读卷和结尾 5 分钟检查。因此,一份 60 分钟、总分 50 分的试卷大约留出 50 分钟写作时间。

Writing time ≈ Total marks × 1 minute

写作时间 ≈ 总分 × 1 分钟

During the first read-through, mark each question with a dot, a double dot or a star according to how confident you feel. Answer the easy ones first to bank marks and settle your nerves, then return to the starred questions with a clear head.
