In brief, it was not a state school, not a senior school, and not a secular institution. Its identity was shaped by three things: Catholic faith, preparatory purpose, and a country estate setting.
2. Founding in May 1933 and the Rosminian Connection | 1933
Grace Dieu Manor School was founded in May 1933 by a religious order. It was established as a Catholic preparatory school, most closely linked to Ratcliffe College, a senior Catholic school also founded by the Rosminian order. This link gave the school a clear senior-school destination and a strong confessional mission.

The manor setting also created a distinctive atmosphere. It offered beauty, history and a sense of continuity, but it carried high maintenance costs and could become a financial burden when pupil numbers fell.
