本手册旨在帮助 Year 8 学生解码每个故事、诗歌和戏剧背后的“公式”与“定理”。你可以把每个概念当作一个可套用的可靠方程式,让文学分析变得更清晰、更有条理。
1. Plot Structure Formula | 情节结构公式
The plot structure formula is best remembered through Freytag's Pyramid, which maps a story's journey in five stages. Exposition introduces characters, setting and the initial situation. Rising action builds tension through a series of events leading to the climax. The climax is the moment of greatest intensity or the turning point. Falling action shows the consequences of the climax, and resolution ties up the story's loose ends, providing closure.
情节结构公式最好通过弗雷塔格金字塔来记忆,它将故事的旅程划分为五个阶段。开端介绍人物、背景和初始情境。发展通过一系列事件构建张力,导向高潮。高潮是紧张程度最高的时刻或转折点。结局展现高潮带来的后果,尾声收束故事的所有线索,带来收束感。
| Stage | Function | 阶段 | 功能 |
| Exposition | Sets the scene and introduces characters | 开端 | 设定场景、介绍人物 |
| Rising Action | Develops conflict and builds suspense | 发展 | 发展冲突、营造悬念 |
| Climax | The turning point of maximum tension | 高潮 | 紧张度最高的转折点 |
| Falling Action | Shows results of the climax | 结局 | 展现高潮的后果 |
| Resolution | Resolves remaining conflicts | 尾声 | 解决剩余的冲突 |
2. Characterisation Equation | 人物塑造方程
Characterisation is the process by which an author reveals a character's personality. The equation combines direct presentation (what the narrator tells us) and indirect presentation (what we infer from the character's actions, speech, thoughts, appearance and interactions). Remember the acronym STEAL: Speech, Thoughts, Effect on others, Actions and Looks.
人物塑造是作者揭示人物性格的过程。这个方程结合了直接表现(叙述者直接告诉我们的信息)和间接表现(我们从人物的行为、语言、思想、外表以及与他人的互动中推断出的信息)。记住缩写 STEAL:言语、思想、对他人的影响、行动和外表。
| STEAL Element | What to look for | STEAL 元素 | 寻找重点 |
| Speech | What the character says and how they say it | 言语 | 人物说什么以及说话的方式 |
| Thoughts | Private feelings, ideas and internal conflicts | 思想 | 私人情感、念头和内心冲突 |
| Effect on others | How other characters react to them | 对他人的影响 | 其他人物如何回应他们 |
| Actions | What the character does and their behaviour patterns | 行动 | 人物做什么以及行为模式 |
| Looks | Physical appearance, clothing and body language | 外表 | 外貌、衣着和肢体语言 |
3. Theme Detection Formula | 主题识别公式
Theme is not just a one-word topic; it is the author' r message about life or society. Use the detection formula: Theme = Abstract Idea + Author's Attitude. For example, 'love' alone is a topic, but 'love can overcome social barriers' is a theme because it expresses a viewpoint.
主题不仅仅是一个词的话题,它是作者对人生或社会更深层的讯息。请使用识别公式:主题 = 抽象概念 + 作者态度。例如,“爱”本身只是话题,但“爱能跨越社会障碍”便是一个主题,因为它表达了一种观点。
When identifying theme, ask two questions: 'What big idea keeps appearing?' and 'What does the author seem to say about it?' Common abstract ideas include courage, injustice, friendship, power and identity. Combine the recurring idea with the lesson or statement the text makes to extract the complete thematic formula.
识别主题时,问自己两个问题:“哪个大概念反复出现?”以及“作者似乎想借此表达什么?”常见的抽象概念包括勇气、不公、友谊、权力和身份。将反复出现的概念与文本给出的启示或论断结合起来,就能提炼出完整的主题公式。
4. Setting and Atmosphere Formula | 背景与氛围公式
ils + Emotional Association. Sensory details (sights, sounds, smells, textures, tastes) create a vivid picture, while the emotional association tells the reader how to feel — eerie, joyful, tense or peaceful.
背景不仅是布景板,它还塑造氛围与意义。其公式为:背景 = 时间 + 地点 + 感官细节 + 情感联想。感官细节(视觉、听觉、嗅觉、触觉、味觉)营造出生动的画面,而情感联想则告诉读者应该产生何种感受——诡异、欢快、紧张或宁静。
For example, a 'dark, creaking house on a stormy night' combines time (night), place (house), sound (creaking) and weather (storm) to build a fearful atmosphere. When writing about setting, link each detail to the emotion it evokes.
例如,“一个暴风雨的夜晚,一座黑暗的、吱吱作响的房子”结合了时间(夜晚)、地点(房子)、声音(吱吱作响)和天气(暴风雨),营造出恐惧的氛围。在分析背景时,要把每个细节与其唤起的情感联系起来。
5. Language and Imagery Toolkit | 语言与意象工具包
Figures of speech act like literary formulas that make writing more powerful. The three core devices are simile (comparing using 'like' or 'as'), metaphor (direct comparison without 'like' or 'as') and personification (giving human qualities to non-human things). Each device builds a bridge between a concrete image and an abstract idea.
修辞手法如同文学公式,使写作更具感染力。三大核心手法为:明喻(使用“像”“如同”进行比较)、暗喻(不用“像”“如同”的直接比较)和拟人(赋予非人事物以人类特质)。每种手法都在具体意象与抽象概念之间架起桥梁。
| Device | Formula | Example | 手法 | 公式 | 例句 |
| Simile | A is like B | 'She ran like the wind.' | 明喻 | A 像 B | “她跑得像风一样快。” |
| Metaphor | A is B | 'His heart is a locked door.' | 暗喻 | A 是 B | “他的心是一扇紧锁的门。” |
| Personification | Non-human thing + human action/feeling | 'The wind whispered secrets.' | 拟人 | 非人事物 + 人类动作/情感 | “风在低声诉说着秘密。” |
Imagery goes beyond simple description; it appeals to the five senses. A powerful image formula is to pick a sense and attach an emotional weight to it. For instance, 'the bitter, stinging smell of smoke' uses smell and touch to signal danger.
意象超越简单的描写,它调动五种感官。一个强有力的意象公式是选定一种感官并赋予其情感分量。例如,“苦涩刺鼻的烟味”运用嗅觉和触觉来暗示危险。
6. Poetry Analysis Grid | 诗歌分析网格
Poems operate with their own structural formulas. When analysing a poem, use this grid to break down the key components: form (sonnet, ballad, free verse), stanza arrangement (couplets, quatrains), rhyme scheme (e.g. ABAB) and rhythm (iambic, trochaic). Sound devices such as alliteration, assonance and onomatopoeia add musicality.
诗歌有其自身的结构公式。分析诗歌时,请使用以下网格分解关键组成:形式(十四行诗、民谣、自由诗)、诗节排列(双行诗节、四行诗节)、押韵格式(如 ABAB)和节奏(抑扬格、扬抑格)。头韵、半谐音和拟声等声音手法增添了音乐性。
| Element | Quick Check | 元素 | 快速检查 |
| Stanza | How many lines per group? Regular or irregular? | 诗节 | 每组有几行?是否规律? |
| Rhyme scheme | End words with same sound; label with letters | 押韵格式 | 同韵尾词;用字母标注 |
| Rhythm | Stressed/unstressed pattern; count syllables | 节奏 | 重读/非重读模式;数音节 |
| Alliteration | Repeated consonant at word starts | 头韵 | 单词开头重复的辅音 |
| Onomatopoeia | Sound imitates meaning ('buzz', 'hiss') | 拟声 | 声音模仿意义(“嗡嗡”“嘶嘶”) |
Remember that a poem's meaning is built equally by what it says and how it says it. Always connect a structural choice back to the feeling or idea it creates.
请记住,诗歌的意义同样由它说了什么和它怎么说来构建。始终将某个结构选择与其创造的感觉或概念联系起来。
7. Drama and Dialogue Clues | 戏剧与对话线索
+ Stage Directions. Subtext is the unspoken meaning underneath the lines, and stage directions (usually in italics or brackets) reveal movements, tone and emotions. Soliloquies let a character speak inner thoughts aloud alone on stage, while asides are brief comments made to the audience.
在戏剧中,纸上文字仅仅是蓝图。对话公式如下:对话 = 台词 + 潜台词 + 舞台指示。潜台词是台词背后未明说的含义,而舞台指示(通常以斜体或括号标示)则揭示动作、语气和情感。独白让角色在舞台上独自大声说出内心想法,旁白则是向观众作出的简短评论。
| Feature | What it reveals | 特征 | 揭示什么 |
| Dialogue | Character relationships and personality | 对话 | 人物关系与性格 |
| Subtext | Hidden feelings, tension, irony | 潜台词 | 隐藏的情感、紧张、讽刺 |
| Stage directions | Mood, action, tone of voice | 舞台指示 | 情绪、动作、语气 |
| Soliloquy | Deepest private thoughts and dilemmas | 独白 | 最私密的内心想法与困境 |
8. Narrative Voice Decoder | 叙事声音解码器
. The formula is: Narrative Voice = Point of View + Reliability + Distance. First-person ('I') offers intimacy but is limited; third-person limited follows one character' deliberately or unknowingly distorts the truth, forcing readers to read between the lines.
叙事声音是讲述故事的镜头。其公式为:叙事声音 = 视角 + 可靠度 + 距离感。第一人称(“我”)带来亲密感但有限制;第三人称限知视角密切跟随一个角色的视点;第三人称全知视角知晓所有思想与情感。不可靠叙述者有意或无意地扭曲真相,迫使读者在字里行间解读。
| Point of view | Clue | 视角 | 线索 |
| First-person | Uses 'I', 'me', 'we' | 第一人称 | 使用“我”、“我们” |
| Third-person limited | Follows one character's thoughts; uses 'he/she' |
