Day 1 begins with the fundamental unit of life — the cell. You must be able to identify and label the parts of animal and plant cells. In animal cells, look for the nucleus, cytoplasm, cell membrane, mitochondria and ribosomes. Plant cells have these same structures, plus a cell wall made of cellulose, a large permanent vacuole and chloroplasts containing chlorophyll.
