2. German Language Requirements for Admission |

For English-taught programs, RWTH Aachen does not require a German language certificate as part of the application. The university explicitly states that candidates for these programs only need to prove English proficiency through tests like TOEFL or IELTS. However, some programs may recommend or even require basic German for daily life or for optional courses, but this is not a condition for admission. Students can enroll and complete their degree entirely in English.

3. English Language Proficiency Standards |

The required English level varies by program but generally aligns with CEFR B2 or C1. Most programs accept TOEFL iBT scores of around 90 or IELTS 6.5, while more language-intensive courses may demand higher scores. Some programs also accept Cambridge English qualifications or proof of previous education in English. It is crucial to check the specific requirements on the program's official webpage before applying.

4. Tuition Fees and Semester Contributions |

In the state of North Rhine-Westphalia, where RWTH Aachen is located, public universities do not charge tuition fees for domestic and international students alike. However, all students must pay a semester contribution of approximately €300, which covers a public transport ticket and social services. This makes studying at RWTH very affordable compared to universities in many other countries.

5. Application Process and Deadlines |

Applications for English-taught master's programs are typically handled online via RWTHonline. For the winter semester (starting in October), deadlines often fall on 15 July for most programs, but some have earlier deadlines (e.g., 1 March for certain engineering programs). International applicants from non-EU countries should apply early to allow enough time for visa processing. Required documents usually include a bachelor's degree certificate, transcript of records, language certificate, CV, and a letter of motivation.

6. Living in Aachen Without German |

While it is possible to complete your degree without German, daily life in Aachen may require some basic phrases. However, the city has a large international student community, and many shops, restaurants, and administrative offices have English-speaking staff. RWTH provides extensive support services in English, including orientation events and counseling. Still, learning German on a basic level is recommended to enrich the experience and ease bureaucratic procedures like registration and banking.

While academics are in English, navigating off-campus life, finding part-time jobs, and interacting with local authorities may still require some German. Also, learning German can significantly enhance internship opportunities within Germany. Students should weigh these factors when choosing a purely English-language path, but the absence of an admission requirement means you can start first and learn German later.
