IGCSE: French – First Language
Tailored for native French speakers, the Cambridge IGCSE First Language French course helps students express themselves with clarity, precision, and impact. Through this programme, they expand their vocabulary, refine their grammar, spelling and punctuation, and cultivate a distinctive writing style while remaining attuned to their audience. A broad reading habit is also promoted—both for pleasure and to foster a deeper understanding of literary techniques. In addition, the course builds transferable skills that support learning across other subjects.
IGCSE: French – Foreign Language
The Cambridge IGCSE Foreign Language French course is intended for students approaching French as a non-native language. Its primary goal is to equip them with the ability to communicate practically and effectively. The curriculum weaves together listening, reading, speaking and writing skills, systematically developing them as learners progress. Furthermore, it offers a window into the cultures and civilisations of French-speaking communities, inspiring a genuine appreciation for language learning and for speakers of other languages.
A & AS Level: French
Building on prior qualifications such as Cambridge IGCSE, O Level, or AS Level, Cambridge International A Level French provides a robust foundation for university study or enhanced career opportunities. Students deepen their grasp of how to deploy French across a range of contexts. They tackle texts and diverse source materials, learning to extract key information and respond to targeted tasks. Over the course, learners naturally gain increased fluency, precision, and self-assurance in the language.
A & AS Level: French – Language (AS Level Only)
The Cambridge International AS Level French programme allows students to sharpen their fluency, accuracy, and confidence in both spoken and written French, while enhancing overall communication abilities. They practise using the language flexibly across different scenarios: reading and analysing source materials, extracting relevant details, starting and sustaining conversations, and answering questions orally and in writing.
A & AS Level: French – Literature (AS Level Only)
Students enrolling in the Cambridge International AS French Literature course explore a diverse selection of French literary works. The focus is on deepening their comprehension of the texts and the themes their authors address, while honing the ability to articulate these insights clearly and with conviction. Through novels, poems and plays, they analyse how writers shape meaning and engage with the broader societal or philosophical questions that the works provoke.
