理解化学反应进行的快慢是 GCSE CIE 化学的核心内容之一。本文拆解碰撞理论,解释改变反应速率的各个因素,并展示如何解读速率曲线和实验数据。无论你正在准备卷一还是卷二,掌握反应速率都能帮助你自信地应对结构化问题与数据分析题。
1. What Is Reaction Rate? | 什么是反应速率?
Reaction rate tells us how quickly reactants are used up or how quickly products are formed in a chemical reaction. It is usually expressed as the change in concentration, mass or volume of a substance per unit time.
反应速率告诉我们反应物被消耗或产物生成的快慢。它通常表示为某物质浓度、质量或体积在单位时间内的变化量。
For example, when magnesium ribbon reacts with dilute hydrochloric acid, the reaction produces hydrogen gas. We can measure reaction rate by collecting the volume of H₂ gas produced per minute, or by measuring the loss in mass of the reaction mixture as CO₂ escapes in a reaction producing carbon dioxide.
例如,镁条与稀盐酸反应会放出氢气。我们可以通过收集每分钟产生的 H₂ 气体体积来测量反应速率,也可以在有二氧化碳逸出的反应中测量混合物质量的减少。
nt or product) ÷ (time taken). The units depend on what is measured, for example cm³/s for gas volume, or g/s for mass loss.
速率可用公式计算:平均速率 = (反应物或产物的变化量) ÷ (所花时间)。单位取决于测量对象,例如气体体积用 cm³/s,质量减少用 g/s。
2. Collision Theory | 碰撞理论
All rate explanations at GCSE level rely on collision theory. Two things must happen for particles to react: they must collide with each other, and the collision must have enough energy to break existing bonds and start the reaction. This minimum energy is called the activation energy, given the symbol Eₐ.
GCSE 阶段所有关于速率的解释都建立在碰撞理论之上。粒子发生反应必须满足两个条件:彼此碰撞,并且碰撞具有足够能量来断裂原有键并启动反应。这个最低能量称为活化能,记为 Eₐ。
If particles collide with less energy than the activation energy, they simply bounce apart and no reaction occurs. The rate of a reaction therefore depends on the frequency of successful collisions per unit time – collisions that have energy equal to or greater than Eₐ.
如果粒子碰撞时的能量低于活化能,它们只会弹开,不会发生反应。因此反应速率取决于单位时间内有效碰撞的频率——即能量达到或超过 Eₐ 的碰撞。
Whenever we change a condition to make a reaction faster, we are either increasing the frequency of collisions, or increasing the proportion of particles that have enough energy to react, or both.
每当我们改变条件使反应加快,我们要么是在增加碰撞频率,要么是在提高具有足够反应能量的粒子比例,或两者同时发生。
3. Effect of Concentration | 浓度的影响
Increasing the concentration of reactants in a solution speeds up the reaction. At higher concentrations, there are more solute particles in the same volume of solvent, so the reacting particles are crowded closer together. This increases the frequency of collisions and therefore the rate of successful collisions per second.
增大溶液中反应物的浓度会加快反应。浓度较高时,相同体积溶剂中溶质粒子更多,反应粒子挤得更近。这增加了碰撞频率,从而增加每秒有效碰撞的次数。
For gases, increasing the pressure has a similar effect. More gas particles are forced into the same volume, making collisions more frequent and increasing the reaction rate.
对于气体,增大压强具有类似效果。更多气体粒子被挤入相同体积,碰撞更频繁,反应速率随之上升。
You may be asked to explain this using particle diagrams. Draw two beakers: one with few particles (dilute) and one with many particles (concentrated). The one with more particles shows more arrows indicating collisions per unit time.
题目可能要求你使用粒子示意图加以解释。画出两个烧杯:一个粒子少(稀溶液),一个粒子多(浓溶液)。粒子多的图中,表示单位时间碰撞的箭头更多。
4. Effect of Surface Area | 表面积的影响
Breaking a solid reactant into smaller pieces increases its total surface area while keeping its mass the same. A larger surface area exposes more particles to the other reactant, whether liquid or gas, at any one time. This leads to more frequent collisions and a faster reaction.
将固体反应物破碎成小块,在质量不变的条件下可增大其总表面积。更大的表面积使更多粒子在同一时刻暴露在另一种反应物(液体或气体)面前,导致碰撞频率更高,反应更快。
A classic example is the reaction between marble chips (calcium carbonate) and hydrochloric acid. Finely powdered marble reacts much faster than large chips of the same mass, producing carbon dioxide bubbles far more rapidly.
经典实例是大理石碎块(碳酸钙)与盐酸的反应。等质量的粉末状大理石比大块碎块反应快得多,产生二氧化碳气泡的速度远快于后者。
Again, a particle diagram helps: a large lump has most particles buried inside, unable to collide. When crushed, many more particles are on the surface, available for collisions.
同样,粒子示意图有助于理解:大块固体的多数粒子埋在内部,无法碰撞。粉碎后,更多粒子处于表面,可供碰撞。
5. Effect of Temperature | 温度的影响
Raising the temperature always increases the rate of a reaction. This happens for two reasons, both explained by collision theory. First, particles gain kinetic energy and move faster, so they collide more often. This increases the collision frequency.
升高温度总是加快反应速率。原因有二,均可由碰撞理论解释。第一,粒子获得动能,运动加快,碰撞更频繁,从而增加碰撞频率。
ter than the activation energy. This means that a greater proportion of collisions are successful. Even a modest increase in temperature can dramatically raise the percentage of particles with E ≥ Eₐ.
第二点更为重要:粒子动能增大,现在有更大比例的碰撞能量达到或超过活化能。这意味着碰撞成功的比例上升。即使温度只升高一点点,能量达到 Eₐ 的粒子百分比也会显著增加。
In an exam you should mention both the increased frequency of collisions and the increased proportion of successful collisions. This dual explanation is frequently rewarded in CIE mark schemes.
考试中你应当同时提到碰撞频率的增加和有效碰撞比例的增加。这种双重解释在 CIE 评分方案中经常得分。
6. Catalysts and Activation Energy | 催化剂与活化能
A catalyst is a substance that increases the rate of a chemical reaction without being used up itself. It provides an alternative reaction pathway that has a lower activation energy. This does not change the energy of the reactants or products; the catalyst simply makes it easier for bonds to break and form.
催化剂是一种能加快化学反应速率而自身不被消耗的物质。它提供了一条活化能较低的替代反应路径。这不会改变反应物或产物的能量;催化剂只是让键的断裂和形成变得更容易。
Because the activation energy is lowered, a larger proportion of the particles now have enough energy to react when they collide. This increases the frequency of successful collisions and so the rate increases.
由于活化能降低,碰撞时有足够能量反应的粒子比例变大,有效碰撞的频率增加,因此速率加快。
Enzymes are biological catalysts. Many industrial processes use catalysts, such as iron in the Haber process or vanadium(V) oxide in the Contact process. In the lab, manganese(IV) oxide catalyses the decomposition of hydrogen peroxide into water and oxygen.
酶是生物催化剂。许多工业流程使用催化剂,例如哈伯法制氨中的铁,接触法制硫酸中的五氧化二钒。在实验室里,二氧化锰催化过氧化氢分解为水和氧气。
You should be able to interpret energy profile diagrams showing the lower activation energy with a catalyst while the enthalpy change ΔH remains unchanged.
你要能够解读能量曲线图,图中应显示催化剂条件下活化能降低,而焓变 ΔH 保持不变。
7. Measuring Rates of Reaction | 反应速率的测量方法
There are several common experimental methods for following the progress of a reaction. You may be asked to describe a suitable method for a given reaction, identify the measurements needed, or suggest improvements.
跟踪反应进程有几种常见的实验方法。题目可能要求你为给定反应描述合适的方法,指明所需测量的量,或提出改进建议。
ce a gas, such as Mg + 2HCl → MgCl₂ + H₂. Record the gas volume at regular time intervals.
方法一:使用气体注射器或排水集气法测量产生的气体体积。适用于产生气体的反应,例如 Mg + 2HCl → MgCl₂ + H₂。每隔固定时间记录气体体积。
ace the reaction flask on a balance and record the mass at timed intervals. The mass decreases as CO₂ leaves. This method is good for gases like CO₂ but unsuitable for hydrogen (too light, buoyancy issues).
方法二:使用天平测量质量减少。适用于气体逸出的反应,例如 CaCO₃ + 2HCl → CaCl₂ + CO₂ + H₂O。将反应容器放在天平上,定时记录质量。随着 CO₂ 逸出,质量减少。此方法适合 CO₂ 等气体,但不适合氢气(太轻,浮力干扰)。
Method 3: The disappearing cross experiment – tion mixture becomes cloudy. You place the flask over a cross drawn on paper and time how long it takes for the cross to disappear from view. The rate can be taken as 1/time. This is an easy way to compare rates at different temperatures or concentrations.
方法三:消失的十字实验——硫代硫酸钠与盐酸反应。反应生成细小的黄色硫沉淀:Na₂S₂O₃ + 2HCl → 2NaCl + S + SO₂ + H₂O。混合液变浑浊。将烧瓶放在画有十字的纸上,记录十字从视线中消失所需的时间。速率可表示为 1/时间。这是比较不同温度或浓度下反应速率的简便方法。
8. Interpreting Rate Graphs | 速率图的解读
Rate graphs show how the amount of product formed (or reactant used) changes with time. The steeper the gradient, the faster the reaction at that moment. At the start, the gradient is steepest because the concentration of reactants is highest.
速率图显示产物生成量(或反应物消耗量)随时间的变化。斜率越陡,那一刻的反应速率越快。开始时斜率最陡,因为反应物浓度最高。
As the reaction proceeds, the reactants are used up, so the rate decreases and the curve flattens. Eventually the curve becomes horizontal, meaning the reaction has stopped – one or more reactants are fully consumed.
随着反应进行,反应物被消耗,速率下降,曲线趋于平缓。最终曲线变为水平,意味着反应停止——一种或多种反应物已完全消耗。
When comparing two curves on the same axes, a curve that starts steeper but reaches the same final volume (or mass) of product indicates a higher initial rate, often due to a higher concentration, higher temperature, or smaller particle size. If the final amount of product is greater in one curve, that means more reactant was present initially.
在相同坐标轴上比较两条曲线时,如果一条曲线起始更陡但最终产物量相同,说明初始速率更高,通常是由于浓度更高、温度更高或颗粒更小。如果某条曲线的最终产物总量更大,则说明开始时该反应物用量更多。
gradient. For average rate between two points, use: rate = (change in y) ÷ (change in x).
你可以通过绘制切线并求其斜率,计算曲线上某一点的速率。两点之间的平均速率用:速率 = (y 坐标变化) ÷ (x 坐标变化)。
9. Summary Table of Factors | 因素总结表
The effects of various factors on the rate of reaction, and how they are explained by collision theory, can be summarised as follows:
各因素对反应速率的影响及其碰撞理论解释,总结如下表:
| Factor | How it increases rate | Key explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Concentration (solutions) | More particles per unit volume | Increases collision frequency |
| Pressure (gases) | More particles per unit volume | Increases collision frequency |
| Temperature | Particles move faster AND have more energy | Increases collision frequency AND a greater proportion of collisions have E ≥ Eₐ |
| Surface area (solids) | More particles exposed on surface | Increases collision frequency |
| Catalyst | Provides a pathway with lower activation energy | Increases the proportion of collisions with E ≥ Eₐ |
The key distinction is that only temperature and catalysts affect the energy barrier or the energy distribution, while concentration, pressure and surface area mainly affect how often particles bump into each other.
关键区别在于,只有温度和催化剂影响能垒或能量分布,而浓度、压强和表面积主要影响粒子彼此碰撞的频率。
10. Practical Considerations and Exam Tips | 实验注意事项与考试提示
When presenting data from rate experiments, always use appropriate units and sensible scales on graphs. If you are asked why a particular piece of apparatus is used, link its function to the measurement needed. For example, a gas syringe is chosen because it measures gas volume directly with low solubility concerns, unlike the inverted cylinder method where the gas must be insoluble.
展示速率实验数据时,始终使用恰当的单位和合理的坐标轴刻度。如果被问到为何选用某种仪器,将其功能与所需测量联系起来。例如,选择气体注射器是因为它可直接测量气体体积,且溶解性影响小,而不像排水法那样要求气体不溶于水。
In the disappearing cross experiment, you are essentially measuring the time for a fixed amount of sulfur to form. The rate is proportional to 1/t. This is not an absolute rate in mol/s, but it allows fair comparisons. Always control other variables – temperature, total volume, concentration of the other reactant – to make the test fair.
在消失的十字实验中,本质上你测量的是生成固定量硫所需的时间。速率与 1/t 成正比。虽然这不是以 mol/s 为单位的绝对速率,但能进行公平比较。务必控制其他变量——温度、总体积、另一反应物的浓度——以确保实验公平。
When explaining why a reaction slows down over time, avoid saying 'the particles run out of energy'. Instead, say the concentration of reactants decreases, so the frequency of successful collisions falls.
在解释反应随时间减慢时,不要说“粒子能量耗尽”,而应说反应物浓度下降,有效碰撞频率因此降低。
Finally, remember that a catalyst does not increase the yield of product or change the position of equilibrium (for reversible reactions) – it only allows equilibrium to be reached more quickly. This is a common exam distinction.
最后要记住,催化剂不提高产物产率,也不改变可逆反应的平衡位置,它只是让平衡更快达到。这是考试中常见的区分点。
