顺序是固定的。学校先发录取通知书，你接受录取、满足条件并交完押金之后，学校才在担保方系统里为你生成 CAS。gov.uk 的 Student visa 页面写得很直接：申请人必须持有一份无条件录取，学校在发出录取之后才会给出 CAS 编号。所以收到 conditional offer 的那天，你手里还没有任何能填进签证申请表的东西。很多学生以为 offer 就是签证材料，打开申请表才发现没有上传入口。表格里要填的是 CAS reference number，一串字母和数字。录取通知书只是你和学校之间的约定，签证官看的是担保方系统里的那条记录。两份文件回答的问题不同：一份问你有没有被录取，另一份问学校愿不愿意为你担保。
The sequence is fixed: an offer letter arrives first, and a CAS only exists after you accept the place and meet every condition attached to it. A university cannot assign a confirmation of acceptance before an unconditional offer is in place, which is why a conditional offer leaves you with nothing to type into the form. What the form asks for is the CAS reference number held in the sponsor's system, and the offer letter never leaves your inbox; one document records an academic decision while the other records a sponsorship commitment. An offer letter is essentially a list of conditions, from final grades and language requirements to a deposit that must clear before anything moves. An unconditional offer means the university has already accepted the evidence you sent, which is the only version that leads to a CAS. Admissions teams verify transcripts and awarding body results during the summer, so the switch can take weeks in July and August. Read the deposit clause carefully, since some providers will not assign a CAS until the money arrives and refund terms sit in an annex most applicants never open.

A CAS is not a document you upload; it is a record created by your sponsor in the licensing system, and the reference number is the only part you handle directly. Enter that number on the form and the caseworker pulls the whole record from the sponsor side, including course details and the evidence used to assess you. Printing the PDF or posting anything to UKVI achieves nothing, because the CAS functions as an index rather than a piece of evidence. Check the statement your university sends against your own documents before you submit.

The record is far more detailed than an offer letter, carrying the full course title, the RQF level, start and end dates, tuition, campus, sponsor licence number and the list of evidence used in your assessment. Its English language field states how the B2 requirement was met, whether through a test score or a degree taught in English. Course titles cause real confusion, because the same programme may run September and January intakes and the start date on the CAS sets the earliest date you can apply. Compare the name spelling, the dates and the fee figure against your passport and offer before submitting.

Sponsors assign CAS numbers in batches after conditions and deposits clear, and no amount of emailing changes that queue. Research students face an extra step, because ATAS clearance is required for sensitive subjects at RQF level 7 and above and no CAS will be issued without it. July and August bring hundreds of cases a day into international offices, and some teams work backwards from start dates, which leaves early applicants waiting longest. Confirming that your documents and deposit are complete does more than chasing progress.
六个月与三个月的时间线

Two clocks run at once, and confusing them causes most missed intakes. A CAS expires for application purposes six months after it is issued, while the course start date controls how early you may apply: six months ahead from outside the UK, three months ahead for extensions and switches inside. Standard decisions take about three weeks abroad and eight weeks in country, with the fee at 558 pounds before any priority charge. Arrival is also regulated, one week early for courses of six months or less and one month for longer ones, so book flights after checking the visa start date.

The money test has two parts with different rules. Tuition only needs to cover one academic year, capped at nine months, and the exact figure sits on the CAS for the caseworker to check. Living costs depend on location, at 1,529 pounds a month in London and 1,171 pounds elsewhere, again for up to nine months. Funds must sit untouched for 28 consecutive days, with that period ending no more than 31 days before you apply; moving money into a savings product a week before submission is a classic way to fail a check that was already satisfied.

中国在英国内政部的 differential evidence 名单上。名单内国家的申请人通常不需要主动提交资金材料，签证官默认你有能力支付。这不等于不用准备钱，UKVI 随时可以在审理过程中要求补交，补交时 28 天规则照样适用。很多学生看到免提交就提前把钱转走，等收到补件通知已经来不及。稳妥做法是按 CAS 上的学费加九个月生活费算一个总数，让它在账户里安静躺到签证出结果。资金来源也要能解释：父母转账附上关系证明和收入材料，自己名下的存款附上流水。材料不复杂，复杂的是临时凑。
China appears on the Home Office differential evidence list, which means applicants are usually not required to submit financial documents up front. That is a waiver of paperwork, not of the underlying requirement, and UKVI can request the evidence at any point while the case is open. Students who read the exemption as permission to move money out often cannot rebuild a 28 day history in time. Keep tuition plus nine months of living costs in place until the decision arrives, and be ready to explain where the money came from.

编号是最容易出问题的地方。CAS 编号里字母和数字混排，0 和 O、1 和 I 抄错一个字符，系统就查不到记录。护照换了新的，CAS 上却还是旧号码，递交前必须让学校更新。课程信息变动同样要重发：语言班升正课、换校区、改专业，旧编号对应的是旧课程。还有重复使用的问题，一份 CAS 只支撑一次申请，被拒签后需要学校重新签发。最常见的错误是拖延：CAS 到手先放着，拖到第五个月才预约，正好撞上八月高峰，名额和加急都排不上。收到编号当天就建一个文件夹，把护照、CAS、存款证明放进去。
Typos in the reference number are the single most common cause of a failed lookup, especially where zero and the letter O sit side by side. A new passport with an old number on the CAS needs a sponsor update before submission, and any change of course, campus or study level requires a fresh record rather than an edit. A CAS supports one application only, so a refusal means asking the university to assign another. Delay is the quiet killer, since waiting until month five to book an appointment lands you in the August rush.
拒签、换学校与 CAS 的失效
被拒签之后，同一份 CAS 通常不能再用。学校需要先撤回原记录，再为你签发一份新的 CAS，编号会变。拒签信上写的理由要逐条对应处理：资金存期不够就重新存满，材料翻译不合规就换认证翻译，课程合理性存疑就补学习计划。换学校的情况类似，新学校要重新担保，旧 CAS 必须先撤销，否则系统里会出现重复记录。延期入学也要走这套流程，开学日期一改，原来的 CAS 就失效。处理这些事的时间成本常被低估，学校国际办公室的回复周期在两到三周。留出缓冲，比事后加急便宜。
A refusal usually ends the life of that CAS, because the sponsor must withdraw the record before assigning a replacement with a new number. Work through the refusal letter point by point, rebuilding the bank history, replacing a non compliant translation or adding a study plan where course credibility was questioned. Switching universities works the same way, with the old CAS withdrawn first so the system does not carry duplicate records. Deferral also invalidates the original, and international offices typically need two to three weeks to respond.
落地之后 CAS 的任务结束
飞机落地、边境官员核对信息之后，CAS 的主要任务就结束了。入境时出示护照和签证，现在多数人还要提前激活 eVisa 账户，实体居留卡逐步退出使用。到校注册时学校会再核对一次护照和签证状态，确认你按时到校。出勤率与签证挂钩，长期缺课学校有义务报告 UKVI，这条规则在语言班和预科阶段执行得最严。CAS 文件自己留一份电子版，续签或办其他国家签证时偶尔会被要求提供。把编号存在手机备忘录里，下次填表不用翻邮箱。
Once you clear the border, the CAS has done its job and the visa record takes over, which in most cases means activating an eVisa account before you travel. Registration at the university involves one more passport and status check, and attendance is monitored because sponsors must report prolonged absence to UKVI, most strictly on language and foundation courses. Keep an electronic copy of the CAS statement, since extensions and other visa applications occasionally ask for it. Save the reference number somewhere you can find it without opening your inbox.
