KS3英语 莎士比亚 台词 五幕结构 入门
Year 7 第一次拿到《仲夏夜之梦》,很多学生翻开第一页就停住了。说话人的名字全是缩写,句子中间夹着括号,一行台词还没走到句号,人物已经换了三拨。书后面还有半本注释,看着像另一门语言。
The first Shakespeare text in Year 7 usually stops a class within a page: speaker names are abbreviated, brackets break up the lines, and three characters have spoken before the first full stop. The notes at the back look like a second language. This guide sets out what each part of a printed play is actually doing, so that the page stops being a wall and becomes a set of instructions.
为什么 KS3 要读两部莎士比亚戏剧
KS3 指 Year 7 到 Year 9 这三年。
Key Stage 3 covers Years 7 to 9, and the English programmes of study published by the Department for Education in 2013, in force from September 2014, require pupils to read substantial and challenging texts from the English literary heritage, including at least two Shakespeare plays; schools do not invent this on a whim. The same expectation follows pupils into GCSE English Literature, where AQA, Edexcel and OCR papers ask candidates to analyse how a writer uses methods to create effects, and it returns at A-Level. Many pupils assume Shakespeare is one unit to be survived and forgotten, yet tracking a speaker, weighing a metaphor and judging a motive are the skills every later literature paper rewards, so time spent learning to read a script properly is never wasted.
A play does not read like a novel: the page is mostly dialogue with a name in capitals before each speech, plus short bracketed notes describing entrances, props and movements. Those stage directions carry information a novelist would have delivered in narration, and a reader has to rebuild the scene from them rather than receive it ready made. Reading the list of characters first, and working out who is related to whom, prevents the confusion that hits pupils who skip that page and then meet two servants with similar names in the third act.
Editions divide the plays into five acts, each act into scenes that shift whenever the location or the characters on stage change. Act one sets out relationships and a tension nobody has named yet, acts two and three stack misunderstandings until the conflict tightens, act four pushes the crisis to its sharpest point and act five settles the accounts. That shape comes largely from the First Folio of 1623 rather than from performance practice, since the Globe staged plays in daylight without act breaks, so a reader who sketches the conflict scene by scene has a map that page numbers alone never provide.
无韵诗与抑扬格五音步
莎士比亚的大部分台词用无韵诗(blank verse)写,也就是不押韵的抑扬格五音步。一行十个音节,轻重交替五次,念出来接近心跳的节奏。"But soft, what light through yonder window breaks" 正好十个音节。押韵的对句常出现在一场戏的结尾,或者女巫、精灵这类角色的口中,作用是提醒观众这句话要紧。散文(prose)在剧里也有明确功能,身份低微的角色、醉酒和发疯的场面多用散文。分不清诗与散文,就会漏掉人物的身份变化和情绪起落。行末读起来别扭的地方,往往是人物话说得不顺的时候。
Most of the verse is blank verse, unrhymed iambic pentameter: ten syllables a line, five light-heavy beats, as in the line beginning "But soft, what light through yonder window breaks". Rhymed couplets tend to close a scene or belong to witches and fairies, and they signal that the line matters, while prose is reserved for servants, drunks, mad scenes and comic business. A reader who cannot tell verse from prose misses the shifts in status and feeling that the layout is quietly marking on every page.
早期现代英语的代词与动词词尾
剧本里的 thou、thee、thy、thine 都是「你」,区别在句子里的位置。thou 作主语,thee 作宾语,thy 后面接名词,thine 用在元音前或单独使用。动词词尾也有规律,第三人称单数加 -eth,doth 就是 does,hath 就是 has。跟 thou 搭配时动词加 -st,thou knowest 就是 you know。这些形式看着乱,其实比现代英语更守规矩。遇到不认识的词,先按词形猜,再看页边注释,最后才查词典。常见的错误是逐词直译,把 "I know not" 翻成「我知道不」。
Early Modern English marks case on its second-person pronouns, so thou is the subject form, thee the object, thy comes before a noun and thine stands alone or precedes a vowel. Verb endings follow a pattern as well: third-person singular verbs take -eth, which is why doth means does and hath means has, and verbs paired with thou take -st. The forms look chaotic but are more regular than modern English, and guessing from the shape of the word before reaching for a dictionary keeps a scene moving.
比喻、意象与双关的辨认
莎士比亚很少直接说一个人很美,他让角色说出对方像什么。明喻(simile)用 like 或 as 连接,"Shall I compare thee to a summer's day" 是问句形式的明喻。隐喻(metaphor)不用连接词,直接把一物说成另一物,罗密欧说 "Juliet is the sun",朱丽叶就成了太阳本身。拟人(personification)给无生命的东西加上动作,让清晨的露水也会哭。双关(pun)借一词多义撑起两层意思,喜剧里尤其密集。分析时不要只写「这里用了比喻」,要写这个比喻让读者看见了什么。同一种意象在全剧反复出现时,记下它每次出现的场合。
Shakespeare rarely states that someone is beautiful; he has a character say what the other person resembles, and the choice of comparison does the work. A simile links two things with like or as, whereas calling Juliet the sun names her as the thing itself, and personification gives non-human things actions while puns turn one word into two meanings and cluster in the comedies. The analysis worth writing explains what the image lets a reader see, not merely that an image is present, and repeated imagery is worth tracking across the whole play.
独白与旁白:人物心里的声音
独白(soliloquy)是人物独自在台上把想法说出口,台上只有他一个,或者旁人听不见。麦克白在第二幕第一场看见匕首的那段 "Is this a dagger which I see before me" 就是独白,观众听到的是他不敢对任何人说的话。旁白(aside)更短,人物转身对观众丢一句评论,旁边的人装作没听见。这两种手法是剧本独有的,小说里没有对应物。读到独白时要问一句:他为什么等到现在才说。答案常常就是这场戏转弯的地方。考试里能被引用得最漂亮的句子,多数出自独白。
In a soliloquy a character speaks his thoughts aloud while alone on stage or unheard by others, which is how Macbeth's question about the dagger in act two scene one reaches the audience as something he would never say to a living person. An aside is shorter, a single remark turned towards the audience while the other characters carry on as if nothing had been said. Neither device has an equivalent in prose fiction, and asking why the character chooses this particular moment to speak usually locates the turn of the scene.
The First Folio sorted the plays into comedies, histories and tragedies, and that sorting was a shelving decision rather than a judgement of quality. Comedies tend to end in marriage or reunion and build their trouble from misunderstanding rather than malice, histories draw on English chronicles and argue about crowns, wars and inheritance, and tragedies end in death after the protagonist has been stripped of position. The boundaries move with the centuries, which is why The Merchant of Venice is now often read as a problem play.
Conflict in these plays is seldom good against evil. Macbeth's ambition is lit by the witches' greeting, yet it is his wife's goading that moves his hand, and the obstacle between Romeo and Juliet is a family name rather than a flaw in either of them, which is precisely what Juliet's question about the name is asking. Shylock's pound of flesh rests on years of public humiliation in Venice. Writing down what a character wants and what blocks it separates motive from obstacle, and that separation is what examiners reward.
A KS3 analytical paragraph needs a claim in its first sentence that says what the paragraph will prove, then one or two short quotations with speaker and act and scene, then two or three sentences on which word does the work and why that effect lands. An examiner reading forty of these in an evening sees the same gap again and again: the quotation appears, the conclusion follows, and the explanation in between is missing. When the explanation will not come, go back to the single word and ask what it means literally and what it becomes in that character's mouth.
引文要短,并且嵌进自己的句子
引文越长,解释越难。一行以内的短语最好用,直接放进自己的句子语法里,不必另起一行。写麦克白的恐惧时,可以写 his question about the dagger shows a mind already half convinced,不必先抄整段再补一句「这表现了他的恐惧」。需要引用较长段落时,用省略号去掉无关部分,只留关键的几个词。引文里的每个词都该在解释里被用到,用不到的删掉。学生最常把引文当成装饰,句子开头放一句、结尾放一句,中间的分析和引文没有关系。引文是证据,证据要能被追问。
Short quotations are easier to explain than long ones, since a phrase of a few words can be dropped straight into your own sentence: his question about the dagger shows a mind already half convinced needs no separate line and no follow-up announcing that he is afraid. When a longer passage matters, cut it with an ellipsis and keep the words that carry the argument. Quotation used as decoration, one phrase at the start of a sentence and another at the end with no analysis in between, is the pattern that keeps marks low.
The same mistakes recur in marking. Pupils treat a character's opinion as the playwright's, so Macbeth saying that life signifies nothing becomes Shakespeare's view; others retell plot for half a page without saying how the writer made anything happen, skip the stage directions that record who moves first and who is listening, or fill a paragraph with quotation and leave no words of their own. Each mistake treats the text as content rather than as method, and the correction is to follow every statement of plot with a question about technique.
Watch a production or a film version before reading, so that the names and the plot are already in place and the difficult words only slow you down instead of stopping you. Keep a pencil and note images that repeat, blood, sleep and darkness in Macbeth, then write two untidy lines of summary at the end of each scene. BBC Bitesize and the RSC website both carry scene-by-scene explanations and performance clips, and a parallel-text edition in the school library is for unblocking a passage rather than for copying.
