Boarders are the only people who experience a boarding school twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week, so when inspectors want to know whether a school is genuinely working, they ask the pupils. The most systematic channel is the pupil questionnaire. ISI uses an online pupil survey for pupils in the senior year groups, and boarding inspectors read the results alongside the school's own data. Ofsted inspectors use pre-inspection questionnaires and also gather views on site.
