1. What IELTS One Skill Retake Actually Is | 雅思单科重考究竟是什么
IELTS One Skill Retake is a shorter, single-skill test session available only for computer-delivered IELTS. You choose Listening, Reading, Writing or Speaking, sit that one component, and receive a new Test Report Form that combines your new score with the three unchanged scores from your original full test.
雅思单科重考是一种只针对机考雅思的"缩短版"单科考试。你可以选择听力、阅读、写作或口语中的任意一科，只考这一科，随后获得一份新的成绩单——把新成绩与初考中另外三科的原成绩合并。
The purpose is simple: if your overall band is being dragged down by one weak skill, you should not have to prove the other three again. For a candidate sitting at Listening 7.0, Reading 7.0, Speaking 6.5 and Writing 6.0, an overall of 6.5 is a writing problem, not a general English problem.

2. Why the Network Is Limited to Eight Cities and Thirteen Centres | 为什么只有八城十三考点
One Skill Retake is not simply "a normal IELTS session with three papers removed". A centre that offers it must meet a different set of operational requirements, which is why the rollout has been staged rather than nationwide.
单科重考并不是简单地把正常雅思考试"删掉三科"。承办它的考点必须满足一整套不同的运营要求，这也解释了为什么它是分阶段开放，而非全国铺开。
First, the session is delivered on the same computer platform, which means the centre needs stable computer-delivered capacity, secure item delivery and a booking system that can match a retake to a specific original test record. Second, Speaking retakes require a certified examiner and a speaking slot that can be scheduled separately from the written components. Third, and less obviously, the centre must be able to verify that the candidate is genuinely eligible - same identity document, same original test record, within the 60-day window.

The eight cities fall into three clear groups: the four first-tier hubs, the two south-western centres, and the two Yangtze River Delta cities. Each group has a different candidate profile, and therefore a different level of competition for retake slots.
