📚 IELTS Goes Fully Computer-Delivered: Listening, Reading and Writing on Screen, Speaking by Video Call | 雅思全面机考:听力阅读写作上机,口语视频通话
IELTS has moved decisively into the digital era. In the great majority of test centres worldwide, candidates now sit Listening, Reading and Writing on a computer at a test centre, while Speaking is conducted as a live video call with a trained examiner. This article explains exactly what that means for your preparation: the interface you will use, the timing that has changed, the skills that now matter more, and the strategies that no longer work.
雅思已经坚定地迈入数字化时代。在全球绝大多数考点,考生现在都在考点的电脑上完成听力、阅读和写作,而口语则通过与考官进行的实时视频通话完成。本文将准确说明这对你的备考意味着什么:你会用到的界面、已经改变的时间规则、如今更重要的能力,以及那些已经失效的旧策略。
1. What "Fully Computer-Delivered" Actually Means | 全面机考的准确含义
"Computer-delivered IELTS" means the test content, timing and scoring standards are identical to the paper version, but the delivery method changes. You read questions on a screen, type your answers, and submit everything electronically. The marking, band descriptors and score reporting scale are unchanged. What changes is the medium, and therefore the micro-skills you need on the day.
“机考雅思”指的是考试内容、时间规则和评分标准与纸笔考试完全一致,但呈现与作答方式发生变化:你在屏幕上读题、用键盘输入答案,并以电子方式提交。阅卷方式、评分描述表和分数报告体系都不变。改变的只是媒介,因而也改变了你在考试当天需要的那些微观技能。
Speaking is the one part that is not "on a computer" in the ordinary sense. You still talk to a real, trained examiner in real time; the only difference is that the examiner appears on a screen through a video call rather than sitting across a table from you. There is no artificial intelligence examiner, no automated scoring, and no pre-recorded prompt.
口语是唯一不属于通常意义上“上机作答”的部分。你依然是与一位真实的、经过培训的考官实时对话;唯一区别是考官通过视频通话出现在屏幕上,而不是坐在桌子对面。这里没有人工智能考官,没有自动评分,也没有预先录制的题目。
Availability of paper-based sessions has shrunk sharply and continues to shrink. Where paper dates still exist, they are usually limited and disappear quickly. Always confirm the exact format available at your chosen centre through the official registration system before you book.
纸笔场次的可选范围已经大幅缩减,并且仍在继续减少。即使某些考点仍保留纸笔日期,通常数量有限且很快报满。报名之前,务必通过官方报名系统确认你所选考点提供的具体考试形式。
2. Listening on Screen: Timing, Headphones and Typing | 机考听力:时间、耳机与打字
The Listening test still lasts about 30 minutes with four parts and 40 questions, played once only. Headphones are provided at the centre, and you control the volume with an on-screen slider. Test the volume during the sound check before the recording begins, and do not be shy about adjusting it mid-test.
听力考试仍然约 30 分钟,包含四个部分、40 道题,录音只播放一次。考点提供耳机,你可以用屏幕上的滑块调节音量。在录音开始前的试音环节就要调好音量,考试中也不要犹豫,随时可以再调整。
The single biggest timing change is the transfer time. On paper you get 10 minutes at the end to transfer answers from the question booklet to the answer sheet. On computer you type directly into the answer boxes, so that 10 minutes is gone; you get only about 2 minutes at the end to review your answers.
最关键的时间变化是誊写时间。纸笔考试最后有 10 分钟把答案从试卷誊写到答题卡上;机考中你直接把答案敲进答题框,这 10 分钟就消失了,最后只剩下约 2 分钟用于检查答案。
Paper: 30 min audio + 10 min transfer → Computer: 30 min audio + 2 min review
You can move freely between questions within the part you are currently on, and change answers before the part ends. Once a part closes, you cannot return to it. Multiple-choice options are clicked rather than shaded, and short answers are typed into text boxes.
在当前所在的部分内,你可以自由跳转题目,并在该部分结束前修改答案;一旦该部分关闭,就无法再返回。选择题通过点击选项作答,而不是涂黑;简答题则直接输入到文本框。
There is no spell check and no autocorrect. A misspelt answer is a wrong answer, so check every word you type for names, numbers and plurals.
系统没有拼写检查,也没有自动更正。拼错的答案就是错误答案,因此务必检查你输入的每个词,尤其是人名、数字和复数形式。
Underline and highlight functions are available on the question paper displayed on screen; use them to mark key words before the audio starts.
屏幕上的题目支持下划线与高亮功能;在录音开始前,用它们标出关键词。
Use the scratch paper and pencil provided for note-taking. Typing while listening is slower for most candidates than writing, so jot notes first and type during the pauses.
用考点提供的草稿纸和笔做笔记。对大多数考生而言,边听边打字比边听边写更慢,所以先快速记笔记,再利用停顿时间输入答案。
Numbers, dates, times and currencies must be typed in a form the system accepts; practise typing them quickly and accurately.
数字、日期、时间和货币必须按照系统接受的格式输入;要练习快速而准确地输入它们。
3. Reading on Screen: Split Screen, Highlighting and Scrolling | 机考阅读:分屏、高亮与滚动
Reading is 60 minutes with no extra transfer time, exactly as before, but the page has become a screen. Most computer-delivered interfaces use a split screen: the passage on one side, the questions on the other. This removes the endless page-flipping of the paper test and can genuinely save time once you are used to it.
阅读仍是 60 分钟,没有额外的誊写时间,这一点与从前完全一样,只是页面变成了屏幕。多数机考界面采用分屏设计:一侧是文章,另一侧是题目。这消除了纸笔考试中反复翻页的麻烦,一旦适应,确实能节省时间。
The highlight and note functions are the most valuable tools in the whole test. Right-click or use the toolbar to highlight key phrases, names and dates; the notes panel lets you type short annotations that stay visible while you scroll. Because you cannot physically scribble on the page, these tools replace your pencil.
高亮和笔记功能是整场考试中最有价值的工具。右键点击或使用工具栏即可高亮关键词组、人名和日期;笔记面板让你输入简短批注,并在滚动时保持可见。由于你不能真的在页面上写画,这些工具就替代了你的铅笔。
Use the question navigation bar to jump between questions, and flag questions you want to revisit with the review button.
用题目导航栏在题目之间跳转,并用“标记待复习”按钮标出需要回头检查的题。
The timer is always visible on screen. Learn to check it roughly every 15 minutes: passages 1, 2 and 3 should take about 17, 20 and 23 minutes respectively.
计时器始终显示在屏幕上。要学会大约每 15 分钟查看一次:三篇文章大致各用 17、20、23 分钟。
Scrolling is the new page-turning. Practise scrolling with the mouse or trackpad while keeping your place, because losing your line costs real time.
滚动就是新的翻页。练习用鼠标或触控板滚动同时保持阅读位置,因为找不到行会实实在在浪费时间。
Matching headings and True/False/Not Given questions work identically, but drag-and-drop and click-to-select replace writing letters in a box.
标题匹配和 True/False/Not Given 的考查逻辑完全一样,只是拖动或点击选择取代了在方框里写字母。
Reading: 60 min ÷ 3 passages ≈ 20 min per passage (no transfer time)
4. Writing on Screen: Typing, Word Count and Editing | 机考写作:打字、字数与修改
Writing remains 60 minutes and two tasks: Task 1 (about 150 words, recommended 20 minutes) and Task 2 (at least 250 words, recommended 40 minutes). A live word counter sits at the bottom of the screen, which removes the guessing game about length, but also encourages some candidates to watch it obsessively.
写作仍是 60 分钟、两个任务:Task 1(约 150 词,建议 20 分钟)和 Task 2(至少 250 词,建议 40 分钟)。屏幕底部有实时字数统计,这消除了对篇幅的猜测,但也让一些考生养成不停盯字数的习惯。
Task 1: 150 words ÷ 20 min = 7.5 wpm net | Task 2: 250 words ÷ 40 min ≈ 6.3 wpm net
Those net figures look low, but they include thinking, planning and reviewing time. To produce them comfortably you should be able to type at roughly 30 to 40 words per minute on a standard QWERTY keyboard, with reasonable accuracy. Below 25 wpm, the clock becomes your enemy.
这些净输出数字看起来很低,但它们包含了构思、规划和检查的时间。要轻松达到这个水平,你应当能在标准 QWERTY 键盘上以大约每分钟 30 至 40 词的速度打字,并保持合理准确度。低于每分钟 25 词,时间就会成为你的敌人。
There is no spell check and no grammar check. Every typo counts against Lexical Resource and Grammatical Range and Accuracy if it obscures meaning.
系统没有拼写检查,也没有语法检查。每一个打字错误只要影响理解,都会扣减词汇资源和语法多样性与准确性两项的分数。
You can delete, select and paste text within your response, which makes restructuring a paragraph far easier than on paper. Verify the exact functions available in the official computer-delivered practice tests.
你可以在自己的作答中删除、选中和粘贴文字,这让调整段落结构比纸笔考试容易得多。具体可用功能请以官方机考模拟练习为准。
Handwriting is no longer an issue. Candidates who lost marks for illegible script now gain, while candidates who type slowly lose.
字迹不再是问题。过去因字迹潦草失分的考生现在受益,而打字慢的考生则受损。
Leave a blank line between paragraphs so the structure is visually obvious to the marker, and do not use bullet points in Task 2 essays.
段落之间留一个空行,让结构对阅卷人一目了然;Task 2 的议论文中不要使用项目符号。
Reserve the final 3 to 5 minutes for proofreading: singular and plural endings, articles, verb tenses and repeated words.
留出最后 3 至 5 分钟用于校对:单复数词尾、冠词、动词时态以及重复用词。
5. Speaking by Video Call: What Changes and What Does Not | 视频口语:变与不变
Speaking by video call is still a live, interactive interview with a human examiner, lasting 11 to 14 minutes across three parts: introduction and interview, a two-minute long turn from a cue card, and a two-way discussion. The band descriptors, the examiner training and the marking criteria are exactly the same as for a face-to-face test.
视频通话口语仍然是与真人考官进行的实时互动面试,时长 11 至 14 分钟,包含三个部分:介绍与问答、基于提示卡的两分钟独立陈述,以及双向讨论。评分描述表、考官培训和评分标准与面对面考试完全相同。
You sit in a private booth or room at the test centre, wear headphones with a microphone, and see the examiner on screen. The examiner verifies your identity by asking you to hold your passport or ID up to the camera. The whole session is recorded for quality assurance and remark purposes.
你坐在考点的独立隔间或房间内,佩戴带有麦克风的耳机,屏幕上显示考官。考官会要求你把护照或身份证举到摄像头前核验身份。整场考试会被录音录像,用于质量监控和成绩复核。
Camera framing: sit so that your head and shoulders fill the frame, look at the camera lens rather than at the examiner's image on screen when you want to make eye contact.
镜头构图:坐姿要让头部和肩膀填满画面;想表达眼神交流时,看摄像头镜头,而不是屏幕上考官的画面。
Audio quality: headphones improve clarity for both sides. Speak at a steady volume and avoid tapping the desk or rustling paper near the microphone.
音质:耳机能提升双方的清晰度。保持稳定的音量,不要在麦克风附近敲桌子或翻动纸张。
Pauses for connection lag: if there is a delay, do not panic and do not restart your answer. Finish your sentence naturally, then continue.
网络延迟造成的停顿:如果出现延迟,不要慌张,也不要重新开始回答。自然地把句子说完,然后继续。
Body language is reduced but not irrelevant. Nodding, smiling and using hand gestures within the frame still signal engagement and fluency.
肢体语言的作用被削弱,但并未消失。在画面内点头、微笑和做手势,依然能传达参与感和流利度。
You cannot choose your examiner and you cannot request a face-to-face format at most centres; the video-call mode is now standard for computer-delivered candidates.
你无法选择考官,在多数考点也无法要求改为面对面形式;对机考考生而言,视频通话已成为标准模式。
6. Registration, Test Dates and Results Timeline | 报名、考试日期与出分时间
Computer-delivered test dates are far more frequent than paper dates, often available several times a week and sometimes twice a day at large centres. This flexibility is one of the strongest practical arguments for the computer format, especially for candidates working towards a deadline.
机考日期比纸笔日期密集得多,大型考点常常每周有多个场次,有时一天两场。这种灵活性是机考最实际的优势之一,对赶截止日期的考生尤其重要。
Results arrive much faster. Computer-delivered results are typically released within 3 to 5 days, compared with around 13 days for paper-based tests. You receive an email notification and can view your scores online; the Test Report Form can often be downloaded or sent directly to institutions.
出分速度快得多。机考成绩通常在 3 至 5 天内发布,而纸笔考试约需 13 天。你会收到邮件通知,并可在网上查看成绩;成绩单通常可以下载,或直接寄送给院校机构。
| Feature | 项目 | Paper-Based | 纸笔考试 | Computer-Delivered | 机考 |
|---|---|---|
| Listening transfer time | 听力誊写时间 | 10 minutes | About 2 minutes |
| Writing mode | 写作方式 | Handwritten | Typed on keyboard |
| Speaking format | 口语形式 | Face-to-face | Live video call |
| Results released | 出分时间 | About 13 days | 3 to 5 days |
| Test dates | 考试日期 | Limited, monthly | Frequent, weekly |
| Spell check | 拼写检查 | Not applicable | None available |
7. Skills That Need Retraining: Typing, Note-Taking, Screen Reading | 需要重塑的能力:打字、笔记与屏幕阅读
The most underrated risk in computer-delivered IELTS is not knowledge but mechanics. Candidates who know the vocabulary and grammar perfectly still lose marks because they cannot type fast enough, cannot take notes while listening, or cannot read long passages on a backlit screen without losing focus.
机考中最被低估的风险不是知识,而是操作。词汇和语法都完全过关的考生,仍会因为打字不够快、听录音时记不下笔记,或者无法在发光屏幕上长时间阅读长文而失分。
Typing accuracy matters more than raw speed. A candidate typing 45 words per minute with 12 percent errors loses more marks than one typing 32 words per minute with 3 percent errors, because errors in Writing affect two criteria at once and errors in Listening and Reading are simply wrong answers.
打字的准确度比纯粹的速度更重要。每分钟 45 词但错误率 12% 的考生,失分比每分钟 32 词、错误率 3% 的考生更多,因为写作中的错误会同时影响两项评分标准,而听力和阅读中的错误就是直接答错。
Type the alphabet, then common IELTS words, then full sentences for 10 minutes daily. Do not look at the keyboard.
每天用 10 分钟练习:先打字母表,再打常见雅思词汇,最后打完整句子。过程中不要看键盘。
Practise writing a full Task 2 essay under 40 minutes of timed conditions, at least twice a week.
每周至少两次,在 40 分钟的限时条件下完整写一篇 Task 2 作文。
Read academic articles on screen and highlight them, simulating the split-screen environment.
在屏幕上阅读学术文章并做高亮标记,模拟分屏环境。
Practise note-taking with one hand on the keyboard: jot on paper, then type during the audio pauses.
练习“一手在键盘上”的笔记方式:先在纸上速记,再在录音停顿处输入。
Record yourself speaking while watching a video call interface, so the video-call format feels normal on test day.
录下自己在视频通话界面中说话的样子,让视频通话形式在考试当天显得习以为常。
8. Technical Issues, Rules and Exam-Day Protocol | 技术问题、考场规则与当日流程
Test centres run pre-test checks, and the vast majority of sessions proceed without incident. Still, knowing the protocol prevents panic if something goes wrong. If your screen freezes, the audio drops, or the video call disconnects, raise your hand and stay seated; a invigilator will intervene immediately.
考点会进行考前检查,绝大多数考试都能顺利进行。尽管如此,了解应对流程可以避免出问题时的慌乱。如果屏幕卡住、声音中断或视频通话断开,请举手并留在座位上,监考人员会立即介入处理。
Any lost time caused by a genuine technical fault is normally compensated by the centre, and the incident is logged for review.
由真实技术故障造成的时间损失,通常由考点给予补偿,并且该情况会被记录以供复核。
Bring the exact identification document used at registration. Without it you will not be admitted, regardless of format.
携带与报名时完全一致的身份证件。没有它,无论何种考试形式都无法入场。
Phones, smart watches and notes must be switched off and stored. Scratch paper and a pencil are provided; personal stationery is not allowed.
手机、智能手表和笔记必须关机并存放。草稿纸和铅笔由考点提供,不允许使用个人文具。
Arrive at least 45 minutes early. Late arrivals are frequently refused entry once the test has started.
至少提前 45 分钟到达。考试一旦开始,迟到者通常被拒绝入场。
Use the official computer-delivered familiarisation tests before your real test date to learn the interface buttons.
在正式考试前使用官方机考模拟练习,熟悉界面上的各个按钮。
9. A Six-Week Preparation Plan for Computer-Delivered IELTS | 六周机考备考计划
A six-week plan works well because it allows two full cycles of learning and reviewing while leaving room for the mechanics training that computer delivery demands. Increase the proportion of timed, on-screen work each week until it matches the real test day experience.
六周计划比较理想,因为它允许两轮完整的“学习—复盘”循环,同时为机考所要求的操作训练留出空间。每周逐步提高限时、屏上练习的比例,直到与真实考试当天的体验一致。
