📚 UKVI Only Recognises Designated Test Centres: Why You Cannot Just Pick Any Venue | UKVI 只认官方指定考点：为什么不能随便挑考点考
Every year, strong applicants lose offers and visas for a reason that has nothing to do with their English ability: they booked the wrong version of the test, at the wrong centre. UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) does not accept "an IELTS score" in the abstract. It accepts evidence produced by a specific provider, at a specific approved centre, on a specific version of the test.

The legal term you need to know is SELT, which stands for Secure English Language Test. Only tests that have been formally approved by the Home Office as SELTs can be used as English language evidence for most UK visa routes.

Approval is also provider-specific. A centre approved to deliver Pearson PTE Academic UKVI is not thereby approved to deliver IELTS for UKVI, and vice versa. You cannot walk into any approved centre and ask for any approved test.

A SELT is designed to be fraud-resistant, and the venue is where most of that security physically happens. Approved centres must verify your passport, capture a digital photograph, and in some cases record biometric data, all under supervised and sometimes monitored conditions.

IELTS for UKVI and standard IELTS share the same content, the same format, the same scoring scale and the same difficulty. What differs is the administrative and security wrapper, the reporting format, and the fee, which is typically slightly higher.

That difference matters more than the price. The UKVI version produces a TRF that carries a UKVI reference number and is registered in the verification system. The standard version does not.

There is no upgrade path. You cannot ask the British Council or IDP to "convert" a standard IELTS result into a UKVI one after the fact. No centre, no agent and no university can do this, because the security checks were not performed at the original test.

Your identity on the test record must match your visa application exactly. Use the same passport for the test that you will use in the visa application, and enter your name precisely as printed on the passport, including all given names and the correct spelling.
你考试记录上的身份信息，必须与签证申请完全一致。考试时用你将来递签用的那本护照，姓名严格按护照上的拼写录入，包括所有名字字段。
Nicknames, shortened forms, alternative spellings and inconsistent order of names are all grounds for invalidating a result. The photograph taken at the centre appears on the TRF and is another reason the test must be taken in person at an approved venue.

After the test, keep your TRF safe and note the UKVI number. You will typically give this number to your university and it is what allows the Home Office to verify your result electronically. Lost or mismatched details can turn a perfect score into unusable evidence.

SELT bookings should be made through the official booking system of the approved provider. Any third party claiming to hold "guaranteed seats", "VIP slots" or an "internal channel" to a UKVI result should be treated with suspicion.

Some legitimate agents do help with registration, but they still enter your details into the official system. If your name is misspelled, your date of birth is wrong, or your passport number is mistyped, the resulting TRF may be unusable and there is usually no refund.

Be especially sceptical of any claim that a UKVI-compliant result can be produced at a centre that is not on the official list. That is not a shortcut; it is a description of a document that does not exist in the verification system.

8. What Happens If You Test at the Wrong Centre | 在错误考点考试会发生什么
The direct consequence is that your TRF has no UKVI number and cannot be used as SELT evidence. In a visa application, that means the English language requirement is not met, which typically leads to refusal, or in some cases the application being treated as invalid.

You then face a cascade of costs. The test fee is lost. You must rebook, wait for a new test date, wait again for results, and then either amend the application or reapply. If your course start date is close, you may need to defer for an entire term or year.
