Being ill on the morning of an exam feels like bad luck. In practice it is also a documentation problem, and the documentation decides whether your grade survives. Every major board has a written procedure for a candidate who is unwell: special consideration, absence with evidence, late arrival, withdrawal, and in a few systems late testing. The rules are narrow, the deadlines are short, and the evidence must be created on the day rather than reconstructed weeks later.

Two clocks start at the same moment. The first is the health clock: symptoms, fever, GP appointment, medication. The second is the paperwork clock: notification, medical certificate, centre submission. Students usually handle the first and ignore the second, then discover in August that nothing was ever submitted.

A doctor's note in your pocket is worthless unless the exams officer knows about it, has the original document, and enters it into the board's system before the board's deadline. Special consideration is applied for by the centre, not by the candidate. You cannot submit it yourself, and you cannot backdate it.
医生开的证明放在口袋里毫无用处，除非"考试官（exams officer）"知道这件事、拿到原件，并在考试局截止日期之前录入系统。特殊考虑由考试中心（学校）申请，而不是考生本人申请。你无法自己提交，也无法事后补做。
There are five possible outcomes. Learn their names now, because on the morning of the exam you will not have time to research them:
- Special consideration (candidate present): you sat the paper but were disadvantaged; a small mark adjustment may be applied.
特殊考虑（人在场）：你考了，但受到了影响；可能获得小幅分数调整。 - Special consideration (candidate absent): you missed a component for an acceptable reason, with evidence.

2. The First 60 Minutes: A Step-by-Step Plan | 最初60分钟：分步行动方案
The most common fatal mistake is silence. A candidate who feels terrible at 07:00, stays in bed, and messages a friend at 10:00 has already lost the paper. Follow this order instead.
最常见、也最致命的错误就是"什么都不说"。一个考生早上七点难受得厉害，躺在床上，十点才给同学发消息——这时候这张卷子已经丢了。正确的顺序如下。
Step 1 - Decide whether you can physically sit the paper. If you have a fever, are vomiting, cannot stay upright, or have an infectious condition, do not travel to the centre. Sitting an exam is not worth a hospital visit, and a centre may refuse entry to a candidate who is clearly infectious.

Step 2 - Phone the centre before the scheduled start time. Not a text, not a social media message, not an email alone. Phone. Ask for the exams officer by title, not by hoping someone forwards it.
