Life Skills is not scored, so the outcome is either a Pass, which can be used in your visa application, or a Fail, which cannot. The Home Office SELT guidance states that test results are valid for two years from the date the test is awarded. Your result must have been awarded within the two years before the date of your application, so an older certificate simply cannot be used, and the page was last updated on 28 August 2026, which makes it worth a fresh read before you book. The same guidance notes that a test can normally be arranged within 28 days of booking, though not always at the centre nearest to you, and if there is no approved test location in your country you have to travel abroad to sit it. After you pass, you receive a SELT unique reference number that you must quote in your application, and the guidance says plainly that an application may be refused if the number is missing. For the IELTS SELT Consortium the number appears on the result as the UKVI number, while other providers label theirs UER, Candidate URN, SELT URN or URN. No documents are submitted with the application, because the Home Office checks results through each provider's online verification system, and the certificate is issued only once, so photograph it on arrival, since lost or damaged copies are not replaced. Your identity document must be current, original, carry a photograph and match the details you gave when booking.
