Every UAT-UK test (ESAT, TMUA and TARA) is delivered at a Pearson test centre, and the rules for changing or cancelling a booking sit in one place on the UAT-UK website. The operational window is 48 hours before your appointment: inside it you can move or drop the booking at no cost, and once that line is crossed you lose control of the slot. This article follows the order of operations inside your own account, so the two are easy to keep apart when something goes wrong.
UAT-UK states that a booking may be cancelled or rescheduled up to 48 hours before the test time with no financial penalty. Inside that window a cancellation produces a full refund, while a reschedule only moves the appointment, subject to what the test centre still has free. Many students assume a change is negotiable right up to the morning of the test, but the portal stops accepting requests once the 48-hour line is crossed, and from that point the fee is at risk.
Manage Appointment
Rescheduling and cancelling are carried out inside your own UAT-UK account: log in, find the test card on your dashboard, and open Manage Appointment. The official alternative is to call Pearson Customer Services, who administer appointments themselves. UAT-UK cannot modify or cancel a booking on your behalf, and the secure messaging function is explicitly not the route for this request, so mixing up the two channels is the usual reason a change takes days instead of minutes.
Each sitting runs across only five test days: 12 to 16 October 2026, and 4 to 8 January 2027. A reschedule therefore means finding a free slot inside that short window rather than picking any date you like, and UAT-UK advises moving early because availability disappears quickly. Candidates sitting in mainland China, Hong Kong and Macau have a narrower choice still, with fixed single days per test in each window.
The cancellation rules split at the booking deadline. Cancel before it and you may still book another appointment; cancel after it and you cannot book a slot at all. For 2027 entry, October booking closed at 6pm UK time on 28 September 2026, and January booking runs from 26 October to 21 December 2026. Because you may register only once per admissions cycle, the January sitting is not a resit, so a late cancellation can end your test chance for the year.
If you do not cancel or reschedule in time, or fail to appear, the fee is forfeited. Candidates who sat on a bursary should note that the bursary is not reissued, so rebooking means paying the full amount again. Missing the reminder email is a common route into this outcome, because the last chance to move the appointment passes while the candidate still assumes it can be sorted out afterwards.
Once an ESAT booking is made, the module selection is fixed: modules cannot be added, removed or swapped. If your requirements change, or you booked the wrong combination, the only route is to cancel and book again, with no guarantee that the same time or centre is still free. Checking the university course pages for the exact modules before you book is far cheaper than a cancellation later.
Pearson
Illness, injury or personal circumstances that appear before the test must be reported to UAT-UK through the form on your dashboard, and always before you sit. This is the route into the Special Consideration Policy. Calling Pearson inside the 48-hour window is explicitly the wrong channel, and sitting without notifying anyone counts as declaring yourself fit to sit.
If a test centre closes because of weather, site problems or another unexpected event, the process differs from a personal reschedule. Pearson and UAT-UK work together on a solution and contact affected candidates shortly after the test date with a rebooking option. The candidate's job is to keep the account and email channels open, rather than experimenting inside the booking system on the day.
Test day has two hard gates. Arriving more than 15 minutes late means no entry and no refund, and the name on your photo ID must match the name on the booking exactly, or you are turned away and forfeit the fee. UK candidates without a valid passport can request an ID exemption through the dashboard form, but approval has to be in place and marked on the booking before test day.
Anything that goes wrong during the test must be reported to an invigilator at the time, and a Case ID must be obtained. The incident policy requires the follow-up to reach Pearson within 24 hours of the test, with a two-day window to ask UAT-UK to review the outcome. No score is ever adjusted; the process is about assessing whether performance was affected.
A clash with school or college exams is handled differently depending on where you are applying. Candidates who are not applying to Cambridge or Oxford are told to sit in January, which UAT-UK says carries no disadvantage. Cambridge and Oxford applicants must stay in October and should message UAT-UK through the account with the dates, times, test and preferred centre; travelling to a later slot may be required.
The division of labour is set out on the UAT-UK website. Booking, payment, test centres, rescheduling and cancelling, incident reports and service complaints belong to Pearson Customer Services, reachable in the UK on 0800 7319905 and by email at pvemeacustomerservice@pearson.com, Monday to Friday 8am to 5pm UK time. Account issues, bursaries, access arrangements and pre-test illness go to UAT-UK through the account, and your Candidate ID should be quoted in every message.
Before touching the booking, confirm three things in order. Check whether your course requirements have changed, especially the ESAT modules, which cannot be edited after booking. Then check the travel and timing of any new slot, remembering that only the test fee, not your travel costs, is protected. Finally, work out which situation you are in: an official cancellation is handled for you, while a personal change must be made by you inside the 48-hour window.
