This article follows the official timeline, sets out exactly what exam boards must provide, and explains what changes once the current specifications come to an end.
2026 年考场上发的是哪套表格

The arrangements for 2026 were settled in 2024, when the Department for Education confirmed that students would not need to recall every formula and equation. Ofqual's guide for schools and colleges states that the sheets used in 2026 are identical to those used in 2025, which means the November 2026 mathematics resit follows exactly the same rules.

For the 2027 series the sheets must be published no later than 1 September 2026, and OCR has confirmed on its subject update page that the 2027 versions will appear on or before that date. The one-year lead time exists so that teachers can work with the real sheet throughout the academic year rather than in the final weeks of revision. Because Ofqual requires consistency across years and between exam boards, students can also practise with sheets published for earlier series without learning a layout that will later change.

The first consultation ran from 3 to 17 October 2024 and drew 15,796 responses, which is a large sample for an assessment consultation. Ofqual reported that 94% of respondents supported a formulae sheet for GCSE mathematics and 95% supported equations sheets for physics and combined science, and it then amended its rules for the 2025, 2026 and 2027 series. That round settled the short term only, leaving the question of what should happen from 2028 onwards entirely open.

A second consultation ran from 2 to 23 March 2026 and asked whether the same support materials should continue from 2028 onwards. It received 2,182 responses, fewer than in 2024 but still a workable sample for a national assessment question. Ofqual proposed carrying the sheets through to the end of the current GCSE specifications, including any resit opportunities, and the consultation document indicates the arrangement is expected to cover exams up to and including 2030 or 2031.

In the 2026 round, 91.7% of respondents supported a formulae sheet for GCSE mathematics, while only 2.4% disagreed, and 93% supported an equations sheet for physics and combined science. Concerns about administrative burden and teacher time were acknowledged, but Ofqual judged that consistency between series and exam boards would cushion those effects.

Each year's sheets must be published by 1 September of the preceding year, so the sheets for 2028 exams must be available by 1 September 2027. Taken together, the rules make the support materials predictable rather than something schools have to chase at short notice.

Some respondents suggested changing the sheets, for example producing separate versions for foundation and higher papers or printing equations next to the questions. Ofqual rejected those ideas because continuity and fairness matter more, and it now requires the content and presentation to stay consistent across years and between exam boards. Presentation-only adjustments may be considered where they apply consistently to all specifications, which is why older sheets remain safe material for practice.

Respondents also mentioned printing, distribution and storage as administrative costs, and Ofqual accepted those points while arguing that unchanged sheets reduce the burden over time. Its regulatory impact assessment adds that exam boards have produced these materials since 2022, so the additional cost is limited, while students notice most the difference between practising with the real sheet and practising without it.

Some respondents focused on students with special educational needs and disabilities, raising worries about working memory and cognitive overload, and suggesting changes to fonts, layout or earlier release dates. Ofqual replied that exam boards may still modify assessment materials as part of reasonable adjustments, so the sheet stays the same while an individual candidate may receive an adapted version. Whether an equation is printed inside a question stem remains a decision for the exam board.
2029 与 2030 年的新考纲会带来什么变化

The Curriculum and Assessment Review published its final report in November 2025 and recommended that government evaluate whether students should be required to memorise and recall each formula and equation as well as apply them. The Department for Education confirmed it is considering this while developing revised subject content, with new qualifications intended to be first taught in 2029 and 2030. Until that content is confirmed, the current arrangements run to the end of the existing specifications, so the immediate priority for students is still fluency in using the sheets.
