Check-in is not a single gate but a staged process. Paper-based candidates were asked to arrive by 07:30, while computer-based sessions open check-in at 08:00 for the morning, 13:00 for the afternoon and 17:00 for the evening sitting. The closing time matters more than the arrival time, at 08:30, 13:30 and 17:30 respectively, after which staff will not admit anyone; written papers then run from 09:00 to 12:00, with the afternoon session at 14:00 to 17:00 and the evening session at 18:00 to 21:00, so writing down arrival and closing times separately is what prevents the mistake.

Identity checks revolve around one document, the original ID used at registration, still in date. Staff verify the document, take fingerprints on an electronic scanner that uses no ink, liquid or chemicals, and photograph you with glasses off, ears visible and a neutral expression. After that you are given a paper wristband for the day, and on computer delivery the ID stays on your desk throughout so invigilators can check it at any time.

Toilet breaks are only possible outside the listening component. Between the end of the invigilator briefing and the last 10 minutes of that component you may raise your hand and, once allowed, leave your seat, but you must repeat the identity and security checks on the way back and the clock keeps running. Computer candidates click Hide before leaving and Resume on return, and since nobody may leave during listening, using the toilet before check-in is part of the routine.

Refunds and date changes happen in defined situations, none of which cover lateness. Before the registration deadline you can cancel a booked test through the official registration website and keep the balance of the fee after the cancellation charge, which can be used for a future booking, while after that deadline applications are normally refused except in special cases. If a test is cancelled for reasons outside anyone's control the official line is a free transfer or a full refund, but arriving late or breaking the rules sits on the candidate's side of that line.
成绩复议与成绩单寄送
成绩出来之后的选项也有官方口径。对分数有疑问可以申请成绩复议，英文叫 Enquiry on Results。按雅思官网的说明，复议由资深考官重新评阅，考点收到结果后如果分数发生变化会出具新的成绩单。复议需要缴纳费用，分数发生变化时全额退还。复议申请有时间限制，按成绩单日期起算，通常在 6 周之内。成绩单寄送方面，报名时最多可以免费填写 5 所院校或机构，超出部分以及考试后补寄需要支付每份 120 元的费用。这些安排都在官网的费用与成绩页面写明，出发前值得读一遍。
Once results are out there are still official routes to use. A candidate unhappy with a band score can request an Enquiry on Results, in which senior examiners re-mark the work and the centre issues a new Test Report Form if the score changes; the fee is paid up front and refunded in full when the band does change. Applications are time-limited, normally 6 weeks from the date on the Test Report Form, and registration allows up to 5 institutions free of charge, with later or additional reports costing 120 yuan each.

Most of the avoidable disasters are removed before the test day begins. The night before, put the original ID in your bag, check that it stays valid on test day and print the admission ticket as instructed on the official site; in the morning, empty your pockets and leave watches and electronics behind or switched off in your bag. Work backwards from the arrival time when planning your journey, allow for transport delays on the morning sitting that closes at 08:30, then find your name on the posted list, confirm the room number and wait in the designated area.
