IELTS for UKVI Life Skills is the shortest test in the IELTS family. It assesses speaking and listening only, lasts between 16 and 22 minutes, and reports a pass or a fail instead of a band score. 一、只考听力与口语 没有阅读与写作
雅思官网把生活技能类写成一场单独的考试，只覆盖听力与口语两项技能。考试里没有阅读卷，也没有写作卷，考生不会拿到文章、图表或作文题目。官方的定位很明确：它面向需要向英国签证与移民局证明听说水平的人。也就是说，这场考试不是为院校申请设计的，需要学术成绩的考生走的是学术类雅思那条路。很多学生以为名字里带雅思就能通用，实际上它只对特定的英国签证类别有效。报名前先确认自己的签证类别要求哪一级，比随手报一个 A1 省事得多。
Life Skills is described by the IELTS website as a single test covering speaking and listening skills. There is no reading paper and no writing paper, so candidates never handle a passage, a chart or an essay question in the exam room. Its stated purpose is narrow: proving speaking and listening ability for a UK Visas and Immigration application. Learners who need a score for university admission take IELTS Academic instead, and plenty of them book the wrong test simply because the name sounds familiar.
二、A1 A2 B1 三个级别对应的签证环节
生活技能类按欧洲语言共同参考框架分成 A1、A2、B1 三个级别。英国政府官网写明，首次申请家庭类签证通常要达到 A1。在英国家庭签证满 2.5 年后申请续签时，如果第一次考的是 A1，就需要再考到 A2 的听说水平。拿到 B1 或更高，可以在五年后申请永居时继续使用这份成绩，前提是证书没有被考试机构撤回。B1 也是入籍与永居这条路线常见的要求。很多学生以为先考低一级更划算，其实 B1 一次就能覆盖后面两步。常见的错误是只看眼前的签证材料，没有把五年的续签与永居时间线一起算进去。
The test is offered at three CEFR levels: A1, A2 and B1. GOV.UK states that a first family visa application normally requires at least A1, while an extension after two and a half years needs at least A2 in speaking and listening if the earlier test was A1. A B1 result can be reused for settlement after five years, as long as the certificate has not been withdrawn by the provider. Candidates who plan the whole five-year route at once usually sit fewer tests than those who book one level at a time.
三、16 至 22 分钟 三个级别的时长
时长是这场考试最容易被记住的数字。雅思官方中文站的考试当天流程页写明，A1 级别用时 16 到 18 分钟，A2 级别用时不超过 20 分钟，B1 级别用时 22 分钟。整场考试只有一位考官和两位考生，你自己真正开口的时间大约是全程的一半。时间短不等于内容浅，两个部分都必须完成，听力任务与主题讨论都不能跳过。很多学生以为时间短可以先慢慢热身，实际上一进考场，第一个问题就已经在计分。
Timing is the number most candidates remember. The official IELTS China test-day page gives 16 to 18 minutes for A1, no more than 20 minutes for A2, and 22 minutes for B1. With one examiner and two candidates in the room, each person speaks for roughly half of the session, and both parts have to be completed; there is no warm-up inside the test, so the first question already counts towards the result.
四、一位考官两位考生 配对考试的进行方式
生活技能类不是一对一面试，而是两位考生同时接受一位考官测试。官方解释配对的理由很实在：这场考试要测的是与别人交流的能力，把水平接近的两位考生放在一起，才看得出真实的沟通状态。另一位考生的表现不会影响你的成绩，考官分别评定每个人的四项能力。考场上常见的错误是抢话或长时间沉默，两种做法都会压低沟通类的表现。把搭档当成对话对象而不是对手，互动质量会明显不同。
This is not a one-to-one interview: one examiner tests two candidates at the same time. The official explanation is practical, because the test is designed to measure how well you communicate with other people, and pairing candidates of similar ability is the fairest way to observe that. Your partner's performance does not change your result, since each candidate is assessed separately; dominating the conversation and staying silent for long stretches both damage the same score.
五、第一部分 熟悉话题的问答
第一部分的时间用于提问与回答，话题都取自日常场景。雅思官方列出的范围包括个人情况与经历、家人朋友、购物、工作、健康、休闲、教育与培训、交通住房以及天气。考官先问个人信息类的问题，再引入一个共同话题让两位考生轮流说。回答只需要真实、具体、有细节，不需要堆复杂句式。很多学生以为用长难句才显得水平高，结果句子说到一半就断掉。把一件小事说清楚，再补上理由和例子，比背模板更稳。
The first part is question and answer on everyday subjects. The published topic list covers personal details and experiences, family and friends, buying goods, work, health, leisure, education and training, transport and housing, and the weather. Answers only need to be true, specific and detailed, since long structures are not rewarded by themselves. Candidates who reach for an advanced sentence often lose the point they were making halfway through it.
六、第二部分 听力任务与主题讨论
第二部分把听力和口语合在一起考。考场播放一段录音，你要一边听一边在纸上记要点，然后口头说出答案，任务是既考大意也考细节。这一段之后，考官会围绕刚才听到的主题展开讨论。官方说明写明，笔记本身不计分，考官只评估你的听说表现。它其实是在还原真实生活里的场景：先听懂信息，再用自己的话回应。常见的错误是把答案写成完整句子，反而漏掉了后面还在播放的细节。
The second part combines listening and speaking. A recording is played, candidates may write notes on paper while listening, and the answers are then given aloud, with the task testing general meaning and detail together. A discussion on the same theme follows; the official guidance is clear that notes are not marked, because only speaking and listening are assessed. Understand the information first, then respond in your own words.
七、B1 多出的规划活动与对比表达
B1 级别比 A1 与 A2 多出一类任务：和另一位考生一起规划一项活动。官方列出的 B1 额外任务还包括比较、表达对比与因果、排出优先级、说服、叙述，以及谈论过去和将来。这一节的评分重点在于你是否接住搭档的话，而不是谁的方案更漂亮。常见的错误是两个人各说各的，讨论结束时没有形成共同结果。练习时可以固定一个套路：先同意其中一部分，再补充自己的理由，最后一起确认结论。
B1 adds a task type that A1 and A2 do not have: planning an activity together with the other candidate. The additional B1 task list also includes comparing, showing contrast and cause, prioritising, persuading, narrating and talking about past or future events. What matters here is whether you build on your partner's words, not whose plan is better; two separate monologues never reach the shared outcome the examiner is listening for.
八、四项评分维度 笔记不计分
官方把考官关注的能力分成四项：获取信息、传递信息、开口表达，以及参与讨论。这四项都不是靠词汇量堆出来的，它们看的是你能否在对话里完成具体动作，例如问清一个信息、把理由说完整、对搭档的话作出回应。笔记只在听力任务里帮你记事，不进入任何一项评分。很多学生把准备时间用来抄词汇，进场之后却接不上话。把每一次开口都当成对话的一步，四项能力会同时被看到。
Four abilities are assessed: obtaining information, conveying information, speaking to communicate and engaging in discussion. None of them is a vocabulary count; each one asks whether you can complete a concrete move in a conversation, such as asking for a missing detail, finishing a reason, or answering your partner. Notes only support the listening task and are never marked, while candidates who spend the preparation time copying vocabulary usually run out of things to say.
九、通过或不通过 成绩单不写分数
这场考试的成绩单不给总分，也不给单项分数，只写通过或不通过。雅思官方页面写明，通过意味着这份成绩可以用于对应的签证申请，不通过则需要重新报考。原因是它本身属于资格型测试，只需要判断你的听说是否达到该 CEFR 级别，不需要排出高低顺序。很多学生以为能靠某一项拉分，实际上这里没有可以拉的分项。常见的错误是把时间花在纠结分数上，而不是把两个部分的内容练熟。
The result is reported as a pass or a fail, with no overall band and no skill scores. The official pages explain that a pass means the result can be used for the relevant visa application, while a fail means another booking is needed. The test is a threshold check rather than a ranking, so there is nothing to compensate for with one strong area; preparation time is better spent on the two parts than on second-guessing the scoring.
十、考试当天 30 分钟报到与 15 分钟截止
雅思官方中文站的说明很具体：请在预定时间前 30 分钟到达考点签到，入场截止时间是考试开始前 15 分钟。迟到考生无法进入考场，也无法参加考试，并且不得转考、退考或退费。签到流程包括证件查验、签名、现场照相、指纹扫描与音频采集，考试全程录像。生活技能类的场次安排在考试日期起四天的周期内，考试时间不能按考生的要求预定或更改。常见的错误是按机考的节奏安排当天行程，路上预留的时间根本不够。
The official Chinese-language guidance is precise: arrive at the test centre 30 minutes before your scheduled time to sign in, and note that entry closes 15 minutes before the session begins. Late candidates are not admitted, cannot sit the test, and are not allowed to transfer, cancel or refund. Check-in covers identity checks, a signature, a photograph, a fingerprint scan and an audio sample, and the whole session is recorded; sessions are arranged within a four-day cycle from the test date, and the time cannot be booked or changed on request.
十一、1250 元费用与 380 元转退考手续费
2025 年 11 月雅思官方公布 2026 年报名安排时写明：从 2026 年 1 月 1 日起，雅思与用于英国签证及移民的雅思考试费用统一调整为 1990 元，生活技能类的费用标准不变，仍为 1250 元。转考与退考手续费从同一天起统一为 380 元。这三条对预算的影响很实际：生活技能类没有跟着涨价，但临时改期或退考的成本比过去清晰得多。报名前把考试窗口与签证材料的截止时间对齐，可以省下这笔手续费。常见的错误是先报名再算签证时间线，最后被迫改期。
When the 2026 registration arrangements were published in November 2025, the official announcement set the fee for IELTS and IELTS for UKVI at 1,990 yuan from 1 January 2026 and left the Life Skills fee unchanged at 1,250 yuan. Transfer and cancellation charges became a flat 380 yuan on the same date. The practical reading is simple: this test did not become more expensive, but changing a booking is now a clearer and firmer cost, so aligning the visa deadline with the booking window avoids paying it.
十二、用官方免费样题把 22 分钟排满
雅思官方为 A1、A2、B1 三个级别都提供了免费的样题与听力样音，可以直接下载并试做。练法可以固定成三段：先按目标级别完整做一遍样题，两个部分都计时；再把听力任务的记笔记方式定下来，只用关键词和符号；最后找一位同伴模拟配对讨论，轮流负责提问与回应。阅读和写作的练习在这里帮不上忙，准备时间应该全部投在开口上。很多学生把时间花在背单词表上，其实对话里的常见话题就那么几类，练熟场景比扩充词汇更直接。
Free official sample papers and listening samples are published for A1, A2 and B1, and they can be downloaded and attempted straight away. A workable routine runs in three stages: attempt one full paper at the target level with both parts timed, then settle a fixed note-taking method for the listening task using keywords and symbols, and finally rehearse the paired discussion with a partner who takes turns asking and responding; reading and writing practice will not help here, so the whole preparation budget belongs to speaking.
