UAT-UK runs the same admissions tests twice in every application cycle, once in October and once in January. The paper structure, marking and fees are identical at both sittings, so the real question is who is allowed to choose January and whether your application can wait that long. Cambridge and Oxford applicants are expected to sit in October while candidates for the other five UAT-UK universities may pick either sitting, and this article sets out the rules, the dates and the mistakes worth avoiding.

UAT-UK is a not-for-profit joint venture set up by the University of Cambridge and Imperial College London on 1 December 2023, and it now runs three admissions tests: ESAT, TMUA and TARA. The first two were examined in October 2024, while TARA was added in October 2025. Pearson VUE delivers all three through a global network of centres, and the same booking system, sittings and rules apply to every candidate regardless of which test they sit.

For 2027 entry there are only two sittings and no third option: 12 to 16 October 2026, and 4 to 8 January 2027. The UAT-UK website confirms that booking for October closed at 6pm UK time on 28 September 2026, while January booking opens at 3pm GMT on 26 October 2026 and closes at 6pm on 21 December 2026. Anyone deciding late has effectively one sitting left, although accounts could be created from 1 June 2026 and the guidance is to book early to secure a convenient centre.

一次申请周期只能在十月或一月注册一次

A common mistake is to treat January as a resit for a disappointing October score, which the rules do not allow. The UAT-UK website states that you may register only once for a test in either October or January within the same application cycle, so a second attempt is not available. What actually differs is timing, since January results are only released on 8 February 2027, well after Oxford and Cambridge have finished shortlisting.

Cambridge and Oxford applicants must sit their test in October, and the UAT-UK website stresses that no personal exceptions are made. The reason is practical, because both universities complete shortlisting and interviews in January 2027 while January results do not arrive until 8 February 2027. The official wording warns that failing to sit a required test may invalidate your application, so the safe sequence is to check the test requirement for your course first and then work back from the booking deadline.

剑桥的例外是一月截止的成熟学院

牛剑十月硬规则有两个官方例外，第一个在剑桥。剑桥的部分成熟学院设有一月的招生截止日，申请这些学院与对应课程的成熟申请人可以考一月场。官网把这一条写成 mature college with a January admissions deadline，这里的成熟指的是年龄与经历不同于常规申请路径的学生。要注意的是例外绑定的是学院与课程，不是申请人个人，所以你需要先确认目标学院的截止日究竟在几月。如果学院走的是常规的十月截止，一月场就与你无关。很多学生以为只要自己年纪偏大就能自动适用，实际操作要以学院官方页面为准。

The first exception belongs to Cambridge, where some mature colleges run a January admissions deadline and candidates for those courses may take the January sitting. The exception attaches to the college and course rather than to the applicant, so the deadline published by your target college is what decides the question. If that college follows the normal October deadline, January is simply not open to you.

牛津的例外只有 Astrophoria Foundation Year

牛津的例外只有一个项目，就是 Astrophoria Foundation Year。这是牛津面向特殊背景学生的预科年项目，招生截止日设在一月，所以申请人可以参加一月场的笔试。官网把两个例外写在同一句里，地位对等，没有第三种情形。牛津其余所有本科专业都要求十月应考，包括经济与管理、实验心理学这些要求 TARA 的专业。申请牛津的常规路线不存在任何延后笔试的操作空间。常见的错误是看到例外两个字就觉得可以商量，官方文件里写的是仅限这两种项目。如果你的目标是牛津常规本科，请直接按十月场的节奏倒排时间。

Oxford's single exception is the Astrophoria Foundation Year, a foundation programme with a January deadline whose applicants may therefore sit the January tests. Everything else at Oxford, including the subjects that require TARA, expects an October result. The two exceptions are written as an exclusive list, so there is no third route and nothing to negotiate.

其余五所院校可以自由选十月或一月

帝国理工、LSE、UCL、华威与杜伦的申请人可以自由选择十月场或一月场。官网的原话是其它 UAT-UK 院校的申请人两场都可以考。这个自由度有一层代价，一月场的出分时间是 2027 年 2 月 8 日。如果你的专业在二月中旬之前就要发录取决定，等一月成绩就可能错过节点。比较稳的判断方法是先查该专业的录取通知时间，再看自己目前的复习状态。十月场适合已经复习到位、不想把申请拖到第二年的学生，一月场适合需要多两个月准备时间的学生。无论选哪一场，注册机会只有一次，选完就不能改。

Candidates for Imperial, LSE, UCL, Warwick and Durham may choose either sitting, since the official guidance allows applicants to all other UAT-UK institutions to sit on either date. That freedom has a cost, because January results are not released until 8 February 2027. If your course issues decisions before mid-February, waiting for a January score may put you behind the timeline, so check the decision date first and then judge your readiness.

中国内地香港澳门考区的固定考试日期

在中国内地、香港与澳门应考的学生没有自由选日的空间。出于考试安全考虑，UAT-UK 把这三个地区的考期压缩到指定日期。十月场里，ESAT 只能在 2026 年 10 月 12 日或 13 日，TARA 只能在 10 月 14 日，TMUA 只能在 10 月 15 日或 16 日。一月场里，ESAT 只能在 2027 年 1 月 6 日，TARA 只能在 1 月 7 日，TMUA 只能在 1 月 8 日。官网写明不会为任何个人做例外。这意味着上海与深圳的考生如果不提前报名，很可能只剩下一个可用日期。选场之前请先查自己所在考区的可选日，再看复习进度够不够。

Candidates sitting in China, Hong Kong or Macau cannot choose their test day freely. For security reasons UAT-UK restricts those regions to fixed dates, with ESAT on 12 or 13 October, TARA on 14 October and TMUA on 15 or 16 October for the October sitting. The January dates are 6 January for ESAT, 7 January for TARA and 8 January for TMUA, and the website states that no exceptions will be made.

一月场的四个关键日期与先后顺序

一月场有四个日期需要写进日历，顺序不能弄错。特殊安排与助学金的申请在 2026 年 10 月 5 日英国时间 15:00 重新开放。特殊安排的申请截止是 2026 年 12 月 7 日 18:00，助学金申请的截止是 2026 年 12 月 14 日 18:00。报名本身的截止是 2026 年 12 月 21 日 18:00，比前两项都晚。制度上的顺序很关键，助学金与特殊安排必须在校方审核通过后才能用于报名。UAT-UK 官网写明助学金审核约需 5 个工作日，特殊安排审核最多需要 10 个工作日。所以先申请再报名的顺序不是建议，而是官方规定的流程。

Four dates matter for the January sitting. Access arrangement and bursary applications reopen at 3pm GMT on 5 October 2026, with request deadlines of 7 December for access arrangements and 14 December for bursaries, and test booking closes later still, at 6pm on 21 December 2026. Because the UAT-UK website states that bursary reviews take about five working days and access arrangement requests up to ten, approval has to come before you book.

两个考期的出分时间与院校送达

两个考期的出分时间相差接近三个月。十月场的成绩在 2026 年 11 月 16 日通过 UAT-UK 账户发布。一月场的成绩在 2027 年 2 月 8 日发布。官网写明成绩会自动送给你所申请的院校，不需要考生自己转发或截图。考生能看到的只是每个模块 1 到 9 分的分数，看不到原始答对数。牛津 2027 入学的入围结果在 2027 年 1 月 12 日经 UCAS 公布，这个日期早于一月场出分两个多星期。把两条日期放在一起看，牛剑为什么必须考十月场就不需要再解释了。

Results arrive roughly three months apart. October scores are released through UAT-UK accounts on 16 November 2026 and January scores on 8 February 2027, with the website confirming that results are sent automatically to the universities you applied to. Oxford publishes its 2027 shortlisting outcome through UCAS on 12 January 2027, which lands before the January sitting produces any score.

模块分数怎么算与两个固定参照点

分数的呈现方式是很多人误判的来源。每个模块单独报告 1 到 9 分，保留一位小数，没有及格线。官网写明中位数固定在 4.5，第 90 百分位固定在 7.0。这意味着一份看起来普通的成绩单未必是低分，7 分左右就已经站进前 10%。ESAT 与 TMUA 的选择题答错不扣分，所以每一题都值得作答。TARA 的批判性思维与问题解决同样答错不扣分，写作任务由官方转送院校，官方不给写作打分。很多学生以为 4 分是不及格，实际上它正好是全体考生的中间位置。

Each module is reported separately on a 1 to 9 scale with one decimal, and there is no pass mark. The official figures fix the median at 4.5 and the 90th percentile at 7.0, so a score near 7 already places a candidate in the top tenth. Multiple-choice questions carry no penalty for a wrong answer, which is why the guidance is to attempt every question, and TARA's written task is passed to universities without an official mark.

报名费按考点所在地与助学金的申请顺序

费用由考点所在地决定，与考生国籍无关。英国与爱尔兰的考生付 78 英镑，其它地区的考生付 133 英镑。在中国内地应考的考生按 133 英镑缴纳，这是不少家长第一次看到账单时会问的问题。助学金可以覆盖全额费用，但必须先在账户里提交申请并通过审核，再拿它去报名。官网写明审核约需 5 个工作日，如果先自行付费，这笔钱不退。特殊安排同样要在报名前获批，额外时间、单独考场与读题员都属于这一类。这一步最容易出错，因为审核周期无法在考试当天临时压缩。

Fees depend on where you sit the test rather than on nationality, at 78 pounds for candidates in the UK and the Republic of Ireland and 133 pounds elsewhere, which is the figure families in mainland China should expect. A bursary can cover the full cost, but it has to be approved through your account before you book, with reviews taking about five working days and no refund if you pay first. Access arrangements follow the same sequence and must be confirmed before booking.

选场前按顺序做完的三个核对动作

落实到最后，选十月还是一月可以用三个核对动作决定。先看目标院校是否在剑桥或牛津的名单里，是的话十月基本确定。再确认学院的招生截止日，只有成熟学院与预科年项目才允许一月。最后看自己所在考区的可选日期，中国内地、香港与澳门的考生只有固定几天。官方的免费材料足以支撑备考，specification、带解析的样题与还原考场的计时练习都在 UAT-UK 官网上。官网也写明不认可任何付费辅导机构，也无法核实其提供的时效与准确性。把这三步做完，报名只是一次点击，剩下的时间应该全留给计时练习。

Choosing between the two sittings comes down to three checks. Start with the institution, because a Cambridge or Oxford application normally settles the question in favour of October, then confirm the deadline published by the college, since only mature colleges and foundation programmes allow January. Finally, check the dates available in your region, as candidates in China, Hong Kong and Macau are limited to fixed days, after which booking is a single click and the remaining weeks belong to timed practice.
