In media-based listening and speaking, examiners check whether you can identify main ideas, select relevant details, infer attitude and respond with a clear point of view. You are not expected to be a media expert, but you must show control of language under time pressure.

Before you listen, use any headings, pictures or introductory questions to predict the text type. Prediction reduces the number of surprises and helps you focus.

3. Active Listening: Keywords and Signposts | 主动听力：关键词与信号词
Active listening means listening for signpost words, not just isolated vocabulary. Words like 'however', 'as a result', 'for example' and 'in contrast' tell you how ideas are connected.

You do not need to write full sentences. Use abbreviations, symbols and short phrases to capture key facts, numbers, names and attitudes.

- Use 'inc.' for 'increase', 'dec.' for 'decrease', '→' for leads to, and '?' for unclear or doubtful points. / 用 'inc.' 表示增加，'dec.' 表示减少，'→' 表示导致，'?' 表示不清楚或有疑问。

After listening, turn your notes into full spoken sentences. Practise this transfer because it is exactly what examiners want to see in speaking tasks.

5. News and Interview Listening Practice | 新闻与访谈听力实战
For news items, listen for the 5W1H in the first few seconds: who, what, when, where, why and how. The lead sentence usually summarises the whole story, while the rest adds detail.
对于新闻条目，在开头几秒内要听 5W1H：人物、事件、时间、地点、原因和方式。导语句通常概括整个事件，其余部分补充细节。
For interviews, recognise the interviewer's questions as a map. The guest's first sentence often contains the main answer; later sentences give examples, justifications or counter-arguments.

Practise with one-minute news clips: pause after the headline and say aloud who the story is about and what happened. Then listen again to check.
