📚 IGCSE Cambridge French: Common Mistakes and How to Fix Them | IGCSE 剑桥法语:常见误区与纠正方法

Many IGCSE Cambridge French candidates lose marks not because they do not know vocabulary, but because they repeat a small set of predictable errors in gender, tense, word order and idiom. This revision guide identifies the most common mistakes and shows you how to correct them with clear examples, covering Paper 1 (Listening), Paper 2 (Reading), Paper 3 (Speaking) and Paper 4 (Writing).

许多 IGCSE 剑桥法语考生丢分,不是因为他们不认得单词,而是因为他们在性数配合、时态、语序和习惯表达上反复出现一些可预测的错误。本复习指南列出最常见的误区,并用清晰例句告诉你如何改正,内容覆盖 Paper 1 听力、Paper 2 阅读、Paper 3 口语和 Paper 4 写作四张试卷。

1. Noun Gender: Le or La? | 名词阴阳性:Le 还是 La?

In French every noun is masculine or feminine, and the article and adjective must agree. A very common IGCSE error is to guess gender from English or from the way a word sounds. English has no grammatical gender, so the habit of trusting intuition is unreliable and often costs accuracy marks in writing.

法语中每个名词都有阴阳性,冠词和形容词都必须配合。IGCSE 最常见的错误是根据英语或读音猜测名词性别。英语没有语法性别,所以靠"语感"猜性别的习惯并不可靠,常常在写作中丢掉准确性分数。

Write 'un problème difficile' (masculine), not 'une problème difficile'. Words ending in -tion, -sion, -té, -ette are usually feminine: la solution, la télévision, la liberté, la baguette. Words ending in -age, -eau, -ment are usually masculine: le fromage, le bureau, le gouvernement.

应写 un problème difficile(阳性),而不是 une problème difficile。以 -tion、-sion、-té、-ette 结尾的词通常是阴性:la solution、la télévision、la liberté、la baguette;以 -age、-eau、-ment 结尾的词通常是阳性:le fromage、le bureau、le gouvernement。

CorrectIncorrectReason
un problèmeune problème-ème is masculine despite the -e ending
la mainle mainbody-part gender is often unpredictable
une solutionun solution-tion ending is usually feminine

The fix is mechanical, not intellectual: always learn a noun with its article, and copy the article into your vocabulary list every single time. Never write 'fromage' on its own; write 'le fromage'. When you meet a new noun in a past paper, check the dictionary entry once and record the gender immediately.

纠正方法不是靠"悟性",而是靠机械记忆:背名词时必须连着冠词一起背,每次记单词都要把冠词抄进词汇本。永远不要单独写 fromage,要写 le fromage。做真题时遇到新名词,查一次词典就立刻把性别记下来。

2. Articles: Definite, Indefinite and Partitive | 冠词:定冠词、不定冠词与部分冠词

Use the definite article for likes/dislikes and general truths: J'aime le chocolat, not J'aime chocolat. Use the partitive du, de la, de l', des for an unspecified quantity after verbs like manger, boire, prendre.

表达喜好和一般真理要用定冠词:应写 J'aime le chocolat,而不是 J'aime chocolat。在 manger、boire、prendre 等动词后面表示不确定数量时,要用部分冠词 du、de la、de l'、des。

A second common slip is the missing article before abstract nouns and languages: 'le français est difficile', 'la liberté est importante'. English often drops the article here, and candidates copy English word for word, producing 'français est difficile', which is not acceptable French.

第二个常见失误是抽象名词和语言名称前漏掉冠词:应写 le français est difficile、la liberté est importante。英语在这些位置往往省略冠词,考生逐字直译,就写出了 français est difficile 这种不合语法的法语。

Remember also the contraction rules that the examiners test repeatedly: à + le = au, à + les = aux, de + le = du, de + les = des. But à + la and de + la never contract: je vais à la piscine, près de la gare.

还要记住考官反复考查的缩合规则:à + le = au,à + les = aux,de + le = du,de + les = des。但 à + la 和 de + la 不缩合:应写 je vais à la piscine、près de la gare。

3. Adjective Agreement and Position | 形容词配合与位置

Adjectives must agree in gender and number with the noun they describe. Writing 'une grand maison' instead of 'une grande maison' is a classic error, and it is penalised every time because the rule is so basic.

形容词必须在性和数上与所修饰的名词配合。写成 une grand maison 而不是 une grande maison 是典型错误;因为规则太基础,这类错误每次都会被扣分。

A handful of adjectives have irregular feminine forms worth memorising as a block: beau/belle, nouveau/nouvelle, vieux/vieille, heureux/heureuse, sportif/sportive, bon/bonne, gentil/gentille, blanc/blanche, long/longue, faux/fausse.

有一组形容词的阴性形式不规则,适合整块记住:beau/belle、nouveau/nouvelle、vieux/vieille、heureux/heureuse、sportif/sportive、bon/bonne、gentil/gentille、blanc/blanche、long/longue、faux/fausse。

Position matters too. Most adjectives follow the noun (une voiture rouge, un film intéressant), but a short list goes before it: beau, joli, jeune, vieux, grand, petit, bon, mauvais, nouveau, haut, long, gros, premier, dernier, même. When an adjective that normally follows the noun is placed before it, the meaning can shift: un homme grand is a tall man, but un grand homme is a great man.

位置同样重要。大多数形容词放在名词后面(une voiture rouge、un film intéressant),但有一小串形容词前置:beau、joli、jeune、vieux、grand、petit、bon、mauvais、nouveau、haut、long、gros、premier、dernier、même。当通常后置的形容词被前置时,意思可能改变:un homme grand 是"高个子男人",而 un grand homme 是"伟人"。

Finally, check adverbs. Adverbs are invariable: elle parle lentement, elles parlent lentement. Do not add -e or -s to an adverb, even when the subject is feminine or plural.

最后要检查副词。副词没有词形变化:elle parle lentement、elles parlent lentement。即使主语是阴性或复数,也不要给副词加 -e 或 -s。

4. Past Tenses: Passé Composé versus Imparfait | 过去时态:复合过去时与未完成过去时

The single biggest tense error in IGCSE writing is using the passé composé for everything in the past. French distinguishes a completed action from a description or a repeated habit, and examiners reward candidates who make that distinction.

IGCSE 写作中最大的时态错误,是用复合过去时包打一切过去的事情。法语区分"已完成的动作"和"描写、反复的习惯",能做出这种区分的考生才容易得高分。

Use the passé composé for a single completed event: Hier, j'ai visité le musée. Use the imparfait for background description, weather, feelings, age and habitual actions: Quand j'étais petit, il faisait beau et je jouais au foot tous les samedis.

单个已完成的动作要用复合过去时:Hier, j'ai visité le musée.背景描写、天气、感受、年龄和习惯性动作要用未完成过去时:Quand j'étais petit, il faisait beau et je jouais au foot tous les samedis.

FunctionTenseExample
Completed single actionpassé composéJ'ai mangé une pizza.
Description / weatherimparfaitIl pleuvait.
Repeated habitimparfaitJe prenais le bus chaque jour.
Action still going onpresent + depuisJ'habite ici depuis deux ans.

Two further traps deserve attention. First, 'depuis' with an ongoing situation takes the present tense: 'J'apprends le français depuis trois ans', not 'j'ai appris'. Second, the near future uses aller + infinitive: 'Je vais partir demain', not 'je pars demain' in every context. Mastering these four patterns alone lifts a writing script by a whole band.

还有两个陷阱值得注意。第一,depuis 表示持续状态时要配现在时:应写 J'apprends le français depuis trois ans,而不是 j'ai appris。第二,最近将来时用 aller + 不定式:Je vais partir demain。单是掌握这四个模式,作文就能提升整整一个档次。

5. Auxiliary Verbs and Past Participle Agreement | 助动词与过去分词配合

Most verbs take avoir in the passé composé, but a fixed set takes être, and with être the past participle behaves like an adjective, agreeing with the subject in gender and number.

大部分动词在复合过去时中用 avoir 作助动词,但有一组固定动词用 être;用 être 时,过去分词像形容词一样,要与主语在性和数上配合。

The être group is traditionally remembered by the mnemonic DR MRS VANDERTRAMP: devenir, revenir, monter, rester, sortir, venir, aller, naître, descendre, entrer, retourner, tomber, rentrer, arriver, mourir, partir. All reflexive verbs also take être: elle s'est levée.

用 être 的这一组通常用口诀 DR MRS VANDERTRAMP 记忆:devenir、revenir、monter、rester、sortir、venir、aller、naître、descendre、entrer、retourner、tomber、rentrer、arriver、mourir、partir。所有代词式动词也用 être:elle s'est levée。

With avoir, agreement happens only when a direct object precedes the verb: 'Les photos que j'ai prises' (agreement with photos) but 'J'ai pris les photos' (no agreement, object follows). This rule appears in higher-tier writing and reading papers and is a reliable way to show grammatical control.

用 avoir 时,只有当直接宾语前置时才配合:Les photos que j'ai prises(与 photos 配合),但 J'ai pris les photos(宾语在后,不配合)。这条规则出现在高阶写作和阅读卷中,是展示语法掌控力的可靠方式。

6. Object Pronouns: Le, Lui, Y and En | 宾语代词:Le、Lui、Y 与 En

Object pronouns go before the verb in French, not after it as in English. Writing 'je vois elle' instead of 'je la vois' is a frequent lower-tier error, and the pronoun order in a double-pronoun sentence is a common higher-tier error.

法语宾语代词放在动词前面,而不是像英语那样放在后面。写 je vois elle 而不是 je la vois 是低阶常见错误;而双代词句中的顺序则是高阶常见错误。

The order of two pronouns is fixed: me/te/se/nous/vous → le/la/les → lui/leur → y → en. So 'Il me le donne' (he gives it to me) is correct, and 'Il le me donne' is wrong. In the negative, ne comes before the pronoun block and pas after the verb: 'Je ne le lui ai pas donné.'

两个代词的顺序是固定的:me/te/se/nous/vous → le/la/les → lui/leur → y → en。所以 Il me le donne(他把它给我)是对的,Il le me donne 是错的。否定式中,ne 放在整个代词组之前,pas 放在动词之后:Je ne le lui ai pas donné。

Watch out for the pronoun with the perfect tense as well: the pronoun sits before the auxiliary, not before the past participle. 'Je l'ai vu' (I saw him/it) is correct; 'J'ai le vu' is not French.

在复合过去时中也要注意代词位置:代词放在助动词之前,而不是过去分词之前。Je l'ai vu 是对的,J'ai le vu 不是法语。

7. Word Order, Negation and Adverbs | 语序、否定与副词位置

French word order is less flexible than English in some places and more flexible in others, and candidates lose easy marks by copying English patterns directly. The two areas to drill are negation and adverb placement.

法语的语序在某些地方比英语更固定,在另一些地方又更自由;考生直接照搬英语结构,往往白丢送分题。最需要练的两个板块是否定结构和副词位置。

In a simple tense, ne and pas wrap around the verb: Je ne comprends pas. In a compound tense, they wrap around the auxiliary only: Je n'ai pas compris, not Je n'ai compris pas. With an infinitive, both words go before the infinitive: Je décide de ne pas partir.

简单时态中,ne 和 pas 夹住动词:Je ne comprends pas。复合时态中,它们只夹住助动词:Je n'ai pas compris,而不是 Je n'ai compris pas。与不定式连用时,两个否定词都放在不定式前面:Je décide de ne pas partir。

Short adverbs like souvent, toujours, déjà, encore, presque, trop go between the auxiliary and the past participle: J'ai souvent visité ce musée, not J'ai visité souvent ce musée. Longer adverbial phrases usually go at the start or the end of the sentence: Tous les étés, nous allions à la mer.

souvent、toujours、déjà、encore、presque、trop 等短副词放在助动词和过去分词之间:J'ai souvent visité ce musée,不是 J'ai visité souvent ce musée。较长的状语短语通常放在句首或句尾:Tous les étés, nous allions à la mer。

For questions, three options are acceptable but only one is safe for every verb in every register: the simple inversion 'Vas-tu au cinéma ?' or the phrase 'Est-ce que tu vas au cinéma ?'. The third option, rising intonation (Tu vas au cinéma ?), is fine in speech but should be used sparingly in writing where a formal tone is expected.

提问有三种方式,但只有两种在各种语体下都稳妥:倒装 Vas-tu au cinéma ? 或 Est-ce que tu vas au cinéma ?。第三种方式是升调提问(Tu vas au cinéma ?),口语中可以,但在需要正式语气的写作中应少用。

8. False Friends and Literal Translation | 假朋友与逐字直译

False friends are words that look like English but mean something different. They cause comprehension errors in reading and absurd sentences in writing, and the IGCSE reading paper deliberately tests several of them every year.

假朋友指拼写像英语但意思完全不同的词。它们会造成阅读理解错误和写作中的荒谬句子,而 IGCSE 阅读卷每年都会刻意考查好几个这类词。

French wordMeansNot
actuellementcurrently, at presentactually
éventuellementpossiblyeventually
librairiebookshoplibrary (bibliothèque)
sensiblesensitivesensible (raisonnable)
attendreto wait forto attend (assister à)
resterto stayto rest (se reposer)

The other side of this coin is literal translation. 'Je suis d'accord' is not 'I am agree'; 'J'ai faim' is not 'Je suis faim'; 'Il fait froid' is not 'Il est froid'. Learn idiomatic chunks as whole units and recycle them in your writing; examiners notice accurate collocations.

另一个反面就是逐字直译。Je suis d'accord 不是 I am agree;J'ai faim 不能写成 Je suis faim;Il fait froid 不能写成 Il est froid。要把这些固定搭配整块背下来,并在写作中反复使用,考官会注意到这些地道的搭配。

9. Prepositions: À, De, En, Dans | 介词:À、De、En、Dans

Prepositions are the least logical part of any language, and French is no exception. The IGCSE papers test a small, stable set of prepositional phrases repeatedly, so they can be learned as chunks rather than as rules.

介词是任何语言中最不讲逻辑的部分,法语也不例外。IGCSE 试卷反复考查的其实是一小批相当固定的介词短语,所以可以整块记忆,而不必死抠规则。

Time expressions are equally testable: depuis means 'since/for' with an action that continues; pendant means 'during/for' with a completed period; il y a means 'ago'; and pour means 'for' with a future duration. 'Je suis en France depuis deux semaines' and 'J'ai habité en France pendant deux ans' mean very different things.

时间表达同样高频考查:depuis 表示持续到现在;pendant 表示已结束的一段时间;il y a 表示"以前";pour 表示将来的一段时间。Je suis en France depuis deux semaines 和 J'ai habité en France pendant deux ans 意思完全不同。

Finally, note that dans refers to a physical position inside something (dans le sac, dans la voiture), and en is used before a noun with no article. Mixing these up produces sentences that are understandable but inaccurate, and accuracy is exactly what the mark scheme rewards.

最后注意,dans 指在某物内部的具体位置(dans le sac、dans la voiture),而 en 后面接不带冠词的名词。混用这两个词,句子虽然能看懂,但不准确,而评分标准奖励的恰恰就是准确性。

10. Spelling, Accents and Verb Endings | 拼写、重音符号与动词词尾

Accents are not decoration. They change meaning, and omitting them counts as a spelling error in the writing paper. Four minimal pairs appear constantly: a (has) versus à (to/at), ou (or) versus où (where), sur (on) versus sûr (sure), du (of the) versus dû (owed).

重音符号不是装饰。它们会改变词义,遗漏重音符号在写作卷中会被算作拼写错误。有四组最小对立对反复出现:a(有)与 à(到/在),ou(或者)与 où(哪里),sur(在……上)与 sûr(确定的),du(……的)与 dû(应付的)。

Verb endings are the second spelling battleground. The endings -é, -er and -ez sound identical but are grammatically different: 'J'ai mangé' (past participle), 'Je vais manger' (infinitive), 'Vous mangez' (present, vous form). If you cannot tell them apart by sound, you must identify them by grammatical function.

动词词尾是第二个拼写战场。-é、-er、-ez 读音相同但语法功能不同:J'ai mangé(过去分词)、Je vais manger(不定式)、Vous mangez(现在时 vous 形式)。如果发音上分不出来,就必须靠语法功能来判断。

Two further patterns are worth drilling. Verbs in -ger keep the e before a and o (nous mangeons, je mangeais), and verbs in -cer take a cedilla in the same positions (nous commençons, je commençais). Double-consonant verbs such as appeler and jeter double the consonant before a silent ending: j'appelle, je jette, but nous appelons, nous jetons.

还有两种模式值得专项训练。以 -ger 结尾的动词在 a 和 o 前保留 e(nous mangeons、je mangeais);以 -cer 结尾的动词在同样位置加软音符(nous commençons、je commençais)。appeler、jeter 这类双写辅音动词在哑音词尾前双写辅音:j'appelle、je jette,但 nous appelons、nous jetons。
