📚 IGCSE Cambridge History: Unit Test Mock Paper Walkthrough | IGCSE 剑桥历史:单元测试模拟卷解析
Mock papers are one of the most effective revision tools for IGCSE Cambridge History, but many students treat them only as a way to test memory. This walkthrough explains how to analyse each question type, apply mark-scheme language, and turn a unit test into a precise feedback loop. It covers source analysis, describe and explain responses, essay planning, timing, and common errors.
模拟卷是 IGCSE 剑桥历史最有效的复习工具之一,但许多学生只把它当作记忆测试。本文解析如何分析每类题型、运用评分标准语言,并把单元测试变成精准的反馈循环。内容涵盖来源分析、描述题与解释题、论述题规划、时间管理和常见错误。
1. Why Mock Papers Beat Re-reading | 为什么模拟卷胜过反复阅读
Rereading notes feels productive because the material becomes familiar, but familiarity is not the same as recall. A mock paper forces you to retrieve information under time pressure, which is exactly what the exam demands. Every question you cannot answer pinpoints a gap in knowledge; every answer you write badly reveals a problem with technique rather than content.
反复阅读笔记会让人感觉在进步,因为材料变得熟悉,但熟悉并不等于能够提取。模拟卷迫使你在限时压力下回忆信息,而这正是考试的要求。每一道答不出的题都精确指出一个知识漏洞;每一道写得不好的题都暴露出技巧问题而非内容问题。
Treat the unit test as a diagnostic instrument. Its purpose is not to give you a grade, but to tell you what to do next. A mark of 60% with two clear, repairable weaknesses is far more useful than a vague feeling that "the Cold War topic is hard".
把单元测试当作诊断工具。它的作用不是给你一个分数,而是告诉你下一步该做什么。一个 60% 的分数,只要附带着两个清晰、可修复的弱点,就远比 "冷战这个专题很难" 这种模糊感觉有用。
Students who improve fastest write the mock, mark it honestly against the scheme, and then spend more time repairing their weakest two or three skills than they spent writing the paper. Students who improve slowest write the mock, glance at the score, and move on to the next topic. The difference is the feedback loop.
进步最快的学生写完模拟卷后,会严格按照评分标准批改,然后花比答题更多的时间修复最薄弱的两个到三个技能。进步最慢的学生写完卷子、看一眼分数,就翻到下一个专题。区别就在于反馈循环。
2. Understanding the Mock Paper Format | 理解模拟卷结构
A typical Cambridge IGCSE History unit test mirrors the assessment objectives of Papers 1, 2 and 4. It usually includes source questions that ask you to infer messages and evaluate usefulness, shorter questions that ask you to describe or explain, and one essay-style question that requires a judgement.
典型的剑桥 IGCSE 历史单元测试对应试卷一、二和四的评估目标。它通常包括要求推断信息和评估有用性的来源题、要求描述或解释的简答题,以及需要作出判断的论述题。
Before writing anything, read the mark allocation on the front page. A 4-mark source question should take far less time than a 10-mark essay. Identify which questions belong to the depth study or core content, and note whether source questions use a separate insert.
动笔前,先阅读卷首的分值说明。4 分的来源题花的时间应远少于 10 分的论述题。判断哪些题目属于深度研究或核心内容,并注意来源题是否使用单独的插页。
If you are given a source booklet, do not summarise the sources in your answer. The examiner assumes you have read them; you must interrogate them instead. Summarising a source - "Source A is about the Treaty of Versailles" - earns nothing, because it proves nothing about your ability to analyse evidence.
如果发给你一本来源册,不要在答案里概括来源内容。考官假定你已经读过,你必须审问它们。概括来源——"来源 A 讲的是凡尔赛条约"——拿不到分,因为它无法证明你的史料分析能力。
The same rule applies to the essay section. If the question asks you to what extent you agree with a statement, a narrative answer that tells the whole story chronologically will stay in the lower bands no matter how accurate it is.
同样的规则适用于论述部分。如果题目问你在多大程度上同意某个说法,那么一个按时间顺序讲完整段历史的叙述式答案,无论多么准确,都只会停留在较低的分数段。
3. Command Words and Assessment Objectives | 指令词与评估目标
Every mark you gain is awarded against one of three assessment objectives: recall and understanding of history (AO1), analysis and explanation of causes, consequences and change (AO2), and evaluation of sources and interpretations (AO3). The command word in the question tells you which one is being tested.
你得到的每一分都对应三项评估目标之一:历史事实的记忆与理解(AO1)、对原因、结果与变化进行分析与解释(AO2)、对史料与解释进行评价(AO3)。题目中的指令词告诉你考的正是哪一项。
| Command word | 指令词 | What it demands | 要求 |
| Describe | Accurate, specific recall with names, dates and details; no causal links needed. 准确具体的记忆,包含人名、日期与细节,不需要因果关联。 |
| Explain | A chain of reasoning using because, therefore, this led to. 用 because、therefore、this led to 构成推理链。 |
| What can you learn / What does the source suggest | An inference supported by precise content from the source. 由来源中精确内容支撑的推断。 |
| How useful is this source | Judgement on content plus origin, purpose and context. 对内容以及出处、目的和背景的判断。 |
| How far do you agree / How significant | A balanced argument with a clear, defended judgement. 带明确并加以辩护的判断的平衡论证。 |
Misreading the command word is the single most common cause of a low mark in an otherwise well-written answer. A student who explains when asked to describe wastes effort; a student who describes when asked to explain loses the AO2 marks entirely.
误读指令词是答案本身写得不错却得低分的最常见原因。被要求描述却去解释的学生白费力气;被要求解释却去描述的学生会完全丢掉 AO2 的分数。
4. Reading Sources Without Summarising Them | 阅读来源而不概括来源
Read the question first, then the source. You are not reading for general interest but hunting for specific evidence. Three passes work well: a quick first pass for the overall message, a second pass to underline names, dates, numbers and loaded words, and a third pass to ask provenance questions.
先读问题,再读来源。你不是在为兴趣阅读,而是在搜寻具体证据。读三遍效果最好:第一遍快速把握整体信息,第二遍划出人名、日期、数字和带倾向性的词句,第三遍追问出处问题。
For provenance, ask the checklist known as NOP: what is the Nature of the source, what is its Origin, and what was its Purpose? A government report, a private letter, a newspaper cartoon and a diary entry all carry different limitations, even if they describe the same event.
关于出处,可以问一套简称为 NOP 的问题:来源的性质(Nature)是什么,它的出处(Origin)是什么,它的目的(Purpose)是什么?政府报告、私人信件、报纸漫画和日记即使描述同一事件,其局限也各不相同。
Nature: speech, treaty text, memoir, photograph, cartoon, statistics? 性质:演讲、条约文本、回忆录、照片、漫画还是统计数字?
Origin: who produced it, when, where, and for whom? 出处:谁制作、何时、何地、给谁看?
Purpose: to persuade, to record, to justify, to entertain or to conceal? 目的:说服、记录、辩护、娱乐还是掩盖?
Never copy a whole sentence from the source as your answer. Quote two or three words only when they are the best evidence of your point, then unpack what those words reveal.
绝不要把来源中的整句抄下来当答案。只有当两三个词是你论点最有力的证据时才引用,然后分析这些词揭示了什么。
5. Inference Questions: What Can You Learn | 推断题:你了解到什么
An inference question does not ask what the source says; it asks what the source implies. The safe formula is to state the inference, then support it with a short quotation or a concrete detail, then explain the link between the two.
推断题问的不是来源说了什么,而是来源暗示了什么。稳妥的公式是先说出推断,再用简短引语或具体细节支撑,最后解释两者之间的联系。
Inference = message + evidence + link | 推断 = 信息 + 证据 + 关联
For example: "One thing I can learn from Source A is that the writer considered the treaty humiliating. This is shown by the phrase 'dictated peace'. The choice of that phrase suggests the German delegation had no opportunity to negotiate terms."
例如:"从来源 A 我可以了解到的一件事是,作者认为该条约带有屈辱性。文中 'dictated peace'(被强加的和平)这一说法体现了这一点。这一措辞暗示德国代表团没有机会谈判条款。"
Vague answers such as "the source tells us the war was bad" gain no credit. Use proper nouns, numbers and dates from the source, and make sure each separate point is genuinely different from the last. Two sides of the same point usually counts as one.
"这个来源告诉我们战争很糟糕" 这类空泛答案拿不到分。使用来源中的专有名词、数字和日期,并确保每个要点确实不同。同一个要点的两面通常只算一个点。
With visual sources, describe only what is visible - a figure being trampled, a flag flying at half-mast, a caption underneath - and separate observation from inference.
对于图像类来源,只描述看得见的内容——被踩在脚下的人、降半旗的旗帜、下方的说明文字——并把观察与推断分开陈述。
6. Evaluating Usefulness | 评估有用性
Usefulness is not the same as reliability. A one-sided cartoon may be extremely useful as evidence of propaganda, precisely because it is biased. The examiner is testing whether you can judge a source for a stated purpose, not whether you can pronounce it trustworthy or untrustworthy.
有用性并不等于可靠性。一幅片面性的漫画恰恰因为带有偏见,可以作为宣传的极佳证据。考官考查的是你能否针对特定目的来评判一个来源,而不是能否宣布它可信或不可信。
Write in two layers. First, judge the content: what does the source reveal about attitudes, conditions or events, and what does it leave out? Second, judge the provenance: who made it, why, and how does that shape what it can and cannot tell a historian?
分两层来写。第一层评判内容:这个来源揭示了什么态度、状况或事件,又遗漏了什么?第二层评判出处:谁制作了它、为什么,这如何影响它对历史学家能说明什么、不能说明什么?
Useful because it is a first-hand account written at the time by a participant. 有用,因为它是参与者当时写下的一手记录。
Useful for showing government aims, but limited for public opinion, since it is an official publication. 对了解政府目标有用,但对了解公众舆论有局限,因为它是官方出版物。
Limited because it was written years later with the benefit of hindsight, or to defend the author's reputation. 有局限,因为它是多年后带着后见之明写成的,或为了维护作者声誉。
Always finish with a clear judgement sentence: "Overall, the source is useful to a historian studying X because... , although its value is limited by... ." Without a judgement, you are still describing.
结尾一定要有明确的判断句:"总体而言,对于研究 X 的历史学家来说,这个来源是有用的,因为……,不过它的价值受到……的限制。" 没有判断,你仍然只是在描述。
7. Describe versus Explain Questions | 描述题与解释题
Describe questions reward precise, well-organised knowledge. Write about who, what, when and where in short, connected sentences. Do not add causes or consequences - they are not asked for, cannot earn extra marks, and eat into your time.
描述题奖励精确、条理清晰的知识。用简短连贯的句子写清谁、什么、何时、何地。不要添加原因或结果——题目没问,多写不加分,还浪费时间。
Explain questions require a causal chain. Each point should be built as: a stated cause, an explanation of how it worked, and a link forward to the outcome in the question. Signal words such as "because", "as a result", "this meant that" and "consequently" show the examiner you are explaining rather than listing.
解释题需要因果链。每个要点应这样构建:陈述一个原因,解释它如何发挥作用,再连接到题目所问的结果。because、as a result、this meant that、consequently 这类标志词能让考官看出你在解释而不是罗列。
| Weak version | 薄弱写法 | Strong version | 优秀写法 |
| Germany was angry about the treaty, so there was hyperinflation. 德国对条约不满,所以出现了恶性通货膨胀。 | The treaty imposed reparations that Germany could not pay in full. To meet the payments the government printed money, which pushed prices up so fast that savings became worthless. 条约规定的赔款德国无法足额支付。为支付赔款,政府大量印钞,导致物价飞涨,储蓄几乎一文不值。 |
A useful test: if your sentence could be reversed and still make sense, you are probably listing rather than explaining.
一个有用的检验方法:如果你的句子反过来写也说得通,那你很可能是在罗列,而不是在解释。
8. Essay Planning for Judgement Questions | 论述题的判断类规划
Spend five to eight minutes planning before you write. A judgement essay needs a clear line of argument, not a list of facts. Decide your overall answer in one sentence, then choose the three strongest reasons that support it and one significant counter-argument you will address.
动笔前花五到八分钟做规划。判断类论述题需要一条清晰的论证主线,而不是事实清单。先用一句话确定你的总体答案,再选出支持它的三个最有力理由,以及一个你会回应的重要反方观点。
Introduction: restate the issue, define any key term, state your line. 引言:重述问题,界定关键词,表明你的立场。
Paragraphs: one argument each, supported by specific evidence. 主体段:每段一个论点,配具体证据。
Counter-argument: acknowledge the opposite case and explain why your judgement still stands. 反方段:承认反面论据,并说明你的判断为何依然成立。
Conclusion: answer the question directly, weighing the factors rather than repeating. 结论:直接回答问题,对各个因素进行权衡,而不是重复前文。
Avoid a conclusion that introduces a brand-new point. Every idea in the conclusion must already have been established in the body of your answer.
避免在结论中提出全新的观点。结论中的每一个想法都必须已在正文中论证过。
9. Building a Paragraph That Earns Marks | 写出拿分的主体段
Use a simple internal structure: Point, Evidence, Explanation, Link. State the point in one sentence, add the specific evidence, explain how the evidence proves the point, then link back to the wording of the question.
使用一个简单的内部结构:观点、证据、解释、回扣。用一句话陈述观点,加入具体证据,解释证据如何证明观点,再回到题目的措辞上。
Evidence means dates, names, figures and events, not adjectives. "Hitler was very popular" earns nothing. "In the March 1933 election the Nazis won 43.9% of the vote, and the Enabling Act of 23 March 1933 allowed Hitler to legislate without the Reichstag" is the kind of specific material that moves an answer into the top band.
证据指的是日期、人名、数字和事件,而不是形容词。"希特勒非常受欢迎" 拿不到分。"1933 年 3 月选举中纳粹党获得 43.9% 的选票,而 1933 年 3 月 23 日的《授权法》使希特勒无需国会即可立法",这类具体材料才能把答案推进最高档。
Keep paragraphs balanced. Three short, well-evidenced paragraphs beat one long narrative paragraph plus two rushed ones, because each paragraph shows the examiner a separate skill and a separate reason.
保持段落均衡。三个简短而有证据的段落,胜过一个冗长的叙述段加两个潦草的段落,因为每个段落都向考官展示一项独立的能力和一个独立的理由。
10. Timing and Mark Allocation | 时间管理与分值分配
Convert marks into minutes before you start, and write the times in the margin. A practical rule for structured and essay questions is roughly 1.5 minutes per mark, with a little more for source questions because the reading is slower.
动笔前把分值换算成分钟,并把时间写在页边。对简答题和论述题来说,一个实用的规则是每分大约 1.5 分钟;来源题因阅读较慢,可略多一些。
Time per question ≈ marks × 1.5 minutes | 每题时间 ≈ 分值 × 1.5 分钟
