In writing tasks, you are often asked to reply to an informal email or letter from a friend. A typical case study gives you a short message asking about your weekend, your hobbies or your plans. You must read the message carefully and identify every bullet point that needs to be covered in your answer. Missing a single bullet point is one of the most common reasons for losing marks.

A strong reply should start with "Lieber Max," or "Hallo Max," then answer the question about the weekend in the perfect tense, accept or decline the invitation with a reason, and end with an informal closing such as "Viele Grüße" or "Bis bald".
