📚 IGCSE CCEA Geography: Essay Writing Frameworks and Model Answers | IGCSE CCEA

Extended writing questions in CCEA Geography often carry the highest marks, so a clear framework is just as important as factual knowledge. This guide provides step-by-step structures for describe, explain and evaluate questions, together with model answers that show how to use place-specific detail and geographical terminology.

1. Understanding Command Words and Exam Requirements |

Before planning an answer, highlight the command word because it tells you the type of thinking required. In CCEA Geography, high-tariff questions often use describe, explain, assess, evaluate, justify or discuss, and each needs a different paragraph structure.

For example, a describe question requires accurate observation of patterns, trends or features, while an explain question requires causes, processes and linkages. An evaluate question then asks for balanced judgement using evidence from a named case study.

In CCEA Geography, extended writing questions may be worth 6 to 9 marks, so the length and depth should match the mark tariff. A common guide is one developed point per mark, plus a conclusion for evaluation questions.
