📚 IGCSE WJEC History: Unit Test Mock Paper Walkthrough | IGCSE WJEC 历史:单元测试模拟卷解析
This article walks you through a typical WJEC IGCSE History unit test mock paper, question by question. It explains the question types, command words, source skills, mark schemes and time planning you need in order to turn a mock result into a real exam grade.
本文带你逐题解析一份典型的 WJEC IGCSE 历史单元测试模拟卷,分析题型、指令词、史料技能、评分标准与时间规划,帮助你从模拟成绩走向正式考试的高分。
1. How the WJEC Unit Test Is Structured | WJEC 单元测试的试卷结构
A WJEC IGCSE History unit test usually mixes knowledge questions with source-based questions. The paper often totals 40-60 marks and is sat under timed conditions, so speed and structure matter as much as factual memory.
WJEC IGCSE 历史单元测试通常混合了史实知识题和史料分析题。试卷总分一般为 40 到 60 分,并在限时条件下完成,因此答题速度与答案结构组织与史实记忆同样重要。
The lower-mark questions ask you to describe or explain an event. The higher-mark questions ask you to use the sources and your own knowledge to reach a judgement.
In practice a unit mock is usually split into two halves: a shorter Section A built around sources, and a longer Section B built around one extended judgement question worth roughly a quarter of the whole paper. WJEC examiners mark by levels, not by counting sentences, so a short, well-aimed paragraph can beat three vague ones.
实际上,单元模拟卷通常分为两半:较短的 A 部分围绕史料展开,较长的 B 部分围绕一道延伸判断题展开,该题大约占全卷总分的四分之一。WJEC 考官按等级评分,而不是按句子数量计分,因此一段精准到位的短论述往往胜过三段泛泛而谈。
2. Command Words You Must Recognise | 必须掌握的指令词
Command words are the most important words in the question. They tell you how to answer, not just what to include, and the mark scheme is written around them.
指令词是题目中最重要的词语。它们告诉你如何作答,而不只是写什么内容,评分标准也正是围绕指令词来制定的。
| Command Word / 指令词 | What To Do / 作答要求 |
|---|---|
| Describe / 描述 | Give features or characteristics / 给出特征或特点 |
| Explain / 解释 | Give reasons and make links / 说明原因并建立联系 |
| Compare / 比较 | Similarities and differences / 相同点与不同点 |
| Evaluate / Assess / 评价 | Make a supported judgement / 作出有依据的判断 |
| Use the sources and your own knowledge / 结合史料与自身知识 | Quote briefly, then add facts the source omits / 简短引用,再补充史料未包含的史实 |
Three further phrases appear constantly in WJEC papers. "What can you learn from Source A?" means infer, not copy. "How useful are Sources B and C?" means judge content and provenance together. "How far do you agree?" means argue both sides and then decide.
还有三个短语在 WJEC 试卷中反复出现。"What can you learn from Source A?"(从史料 A 中你能了解到什么)意味着要作推论,而不是照抄。"How useful are Sources B and C?"(史料 B 和 C 有多大用处)意味着要同时评价内容与出处。"How far do you agree?"(你在多大程度上同意)意味着要论证双方观点,然后作出决断。
3. Reading the Mock Paper in the First Five Minutes | 开考五分钟的通卷策略
Do not start writing immediately. Three to five minutes of scanning saves ten minutes of panicked rewriting later. Underline every command word, circle every mark allocation, and box the provenance line of each source.
不要立刻动笔。三到五分钟的通卷阅读,可以为你省下后面十分钟慌张涂改的时间。给每个指令词划线,给每个分值画圈,把每条史料的出处信息框起来。
Then divide your time by marks rather than by feeling. A reliable rule is roughly one minute per mark, plus a few minutes of contingency for the highest-tariff question.
接着按分值而非按感觉分配时间。一个可靠的规则是每分大约一分钟,再为最高分值的题目留出几分钟机动时间。
Time (minutes) ≈ Marks × 1.1 + 2
| Stage / 阶段 | Marks / 分值 | Suggested Time / 建议用时 |
|---|---|---|
| Scan the whole paper / 通卷阅读 | — | 4 min |
| Short knowledge recall / 史实知识题 | 4-6 | 6 min |
| Source analysis / 史料分析题 | 8 | 10 min |
| Extended judgement / 延伸判断题 | 12 | 15 min |
| Checking / 检查 | — | 5 min |
4. Question 1 Walkthrough: The Describe Question | 第 1 题解析:描述题
Take the mock question: "Describe the main features of the Weimar Republic's constitution." This is a 4-mark recall question, and it rewards specific detail rather than storytelling.
以模拟题为例:"描述魏玛共和国宪法的主要特征。"这是一道 4 分的记忆题,得分靠的是具体细节,而不是讲故事。
A strong answer gives three or four distinct features, each in one sentence. For example: the President was elected every seven years; Article 48 allowed rule by emergency decree; the Reichstag was elected by proportional representation; and all men and women over twenty could vote.
高分答案会给出三到四个彼此不同的特征,每个用一句话表述。例如:总统每七年选举一次;第 48 条允许以紧急法令进行统治;国会由比例代表制选举产生;二十岁以上的男女均有投票权。
Notice what is missing: no explanation, no judgement, no "this was bad because". Adding analysis here wastes time and earns nothing. Save the causal thinking for the next question.
注意这里缺了什么:没有解释,没有判断,也没有"这很糟糕因为……"。在这里加入分析既浪费时间,也拿不到分数。把因果思考留到下一题。
5. Question 2 Walkthrough: The Explain Question | 第 2 题解析:解释题
Now consider: "Explain why the Weimar Republic faced economic problems between 1919 and 1923." Six marks means two or three reasons, each developed through a clear chain of cause and effect.
再看这道题:"解释为什么魏玛共和国在 1919 至 1923 年间面临经济问题。"6 分意味着要写两到三个原因,每个原因都要通过清晰的因果链展开。
The safest structure is a short point, supporting evidence, then the link word "therefore" or "as a result". For instance: the Treaty of Versailles required 132 billion gold marks in reparations; therefore the government printed money to pay its debts; as a result inflation spiralled and the mark collapsed in 1923.
最稳妥的结构是:简短观点 + 支撑证据 + "因此"或"结果是"这类连接词。例如:凡尔赛和约要求赔付 1320 亿金马克;因此政府印钞还债;结果是通货膨胀失控,1923 年马克崩溃。
One reason explained in three linked sentences scores higher than three reasons named in three isolated sentences, because the mark scheme rewards developed explanation, not lists.
一个用三个相互关联的句子解释清楚的原因,得分高于三个彼此孤立、只被点名的原因,因为评分标准奖励的是展开的解释,而不是清单。
6. Question 3 Walkthrough: Inference from a Source | 第 3 题解析:史料推论题
An 8-mark source question in WJEC style might read: "What can you learn from Source A about Nazi control of Germany?" The trap is copying the source. The skill is moving from what it says to what it suggests.
一道 WJEC 风格的 8 分史料题可能是这样的:"从史料 A 中你能了解到关于纳粹控制德国的什么内容?"陷阱在于照抄史料,而真正的技能是从史料"说了什么"推进到"暗示了什么"。
The formula is: short quotation, then inference, then own knowledge. For example: the source shows crowds giving the Nazi salute, which suggests that public displays of loyalty were expected, and my own knowledge of the Gestapo and the Reich Chamber of Culture confirms that conformity was enforced rather than voluntary.
公式是:简短引用 + 推论 + 自身知识。例如:史料显示人群行纳粹礼,这暗示公开表达忠诚是被要求的;而我对盖世太保和帝国文化院的知识证实,服从是被强制而非自愿的。
Aim for two or three separately developed inferences. Repeating one inference in different words caps you in the middle band no matter how long the answer is.
目标是写出两到三个分别展开的推论。把同一个推论换着说法重复,无论答案写得多长,都会被压在中等档次。
7. Question 4 Walkthrough: Purpose, Origin and Usefulness | 第 4 题解析:目的、来源与有用性
"How useful are Sources B and C to a historian studying opposition to the Nazi regime?" This question tests evaluation, not description. Usefulness depends on both what a source contains and who produced it, when, and why.
"对于研究反纳粹政权的历史学家来说,史料 B 和 C 有多大用处?"这道题考查评价,而不是描述。有用性取决于史料包含什么内容,也取决于它由谁、在何时、出于何种目的制作。
Use the NOP checklist: Nature (speech, diary, photograph, newspaper), Origin (author, date, place), Purpose (persuade, record, justify, entertain). A secret Gestapo report and a public propaganda poster can both be useful, but for different reasons.
使用 NOP 检查表:性质(演讲、日记、照片、报纸)、出处(作者、日期、地点)、目的(说服、记录、辩护、娱乐)。一份秘密的盖世太保报告和一张公开的宣传海报都可能有用,但有用的原因不同。
A top-band answer balances both sources: it states one clear judgement about usefulness, supports it with provenance detail, and cross-refers to its own knowledge of the period. Saying only "it is biased, so it is useless" is the single most common way to lose marks.
最高档次的答案会平衡处理两条史料:给出一个明确的有用性判断,用出处细节支撑,并与自身对该时期的知识相互参照。只写"它有偏见,所以没用",是最常见的失分方式。
8. Question 5 Walkthrough: The 12-Mark Extended Judgement | 第 5 题解析:12 分延伸判断题
The 12-mark question is where grades are decided. A typical stem is: "The main reason for Hitler becoming Chancellor in 1933 was the impact of the Great Depression. How far do you agree?"
12 分题是决定成绩档次的地方。典型的题干是:"希特勒于 1933 年成为总理的主要原因是经济大萧条的影响。你在多大程度上同意?"
A four-part structure works every time: a one-sentence line of argument, two or three paragraphs on the named factor, two or three paragraphs on the alternatives, and a conclusion that weighs them against an explicit criterion.
四段结构每次都奏效:一句话表明论点、两到三段论述题干给出的因素、两到三段论述其他因素,以及一段结论,用明确的评判标准对二者进行权衡。
Judgement = Weighing (Factor A ⇌ Factor B) + Explicit Criterion + Evidence
A useful criterion is chronology: the Depression explains the surge of Nazi votes after 1929, but it does not explain why the Weimar system had already lost legitimacy by 1930. Naming that criterion is what separates a Level 4 answer from a Level 3 one.
一个有用的评判标准是时间顺序:大萧条解释了 1929 年后纳粹选票的激增,却无法解释为何魏玛体制在 1930 年前就已丧失合法性。点明这一标准,正是区分 4 级与 3 级答案的关键。
9. Using Sources Without Copying Them | 史料使用:引用而不抄写
Examiners penalise copying in two ways: it demonstrates no historical skill, and it steals writing time you need for analysis. Quote three to six words, then move immediately into your own words.
考官会以两种方式惩罚抄写:它没有体现任何历史技能,而且会占掉你用于分析的时间。引用三到六个词,然后立刻转入你自己的表述。
Signal your own voice with phrases such as "this suggests", "the author's purpose here is", "this is typical of", or "this is limited because". These signposts tell the examiner that inference or evaluation is happening.
用"this suggests"(这表明)、"the author's purpose here is"(作者在此的目的是)、"this is typical of"(这是……的典型)、"this is limited because"(其局限在于)这类短语显示出你自己的声音。这些标识语能让考官看出推论或评价正在发生。
Always connect a source back to date, author or audience. A source's meaning changes completely if it is written in 1923 or 1938, by a supporter or an opponent, for a private diary or a national newspaper.
始终把史料与日期、作者或受众联系起来。同一条史料,写于 1923 年还是 1938 年,出自支持者还是反对者,写给私人日记还是全国性报纸,其含义完全不同。
10. Common Mark-Losing Errors | 常见失分点
Mock papers across centres show the same recurring mistakes. Fixing them raises a grade faster than learning more facts.
各考点的模拟卷都显示出同样反复出现的错误。改正这些错误,比再多背史实提分更快。
Ignoring the command word and writing the answer to a different question. / 忽视指令词,写成了另一道题的答案。
Writing narrative without a line of argument in the 12-mark question. / 在 12 分题中只写叙述,没有论点主线。
Describing a source's provenance instead of evaluating its usefulness. / 描述史料的出处,而不是评价其有用性。
Offering unqualified claims such as "propaganda was very successful". / 使用未经限定的断言,如"宣传工作非常成功"。
Running out of time and leaving the final conclusion unfinished. / 时间不够,结论没有写完。
Using dates incorrectly, which damages the credibility of otherwise good analysis. / 日期用错,从而损害了本来不错的分析的可信度。
Each of these faults is structural, not factual. That is good news: structure can be rehearsed in a week, whereas a full factual revision programme takes months.
这些失误都是结构性的,而非史实性的。这是好消息:结构可以在一周内演练成习惯,而完整复习全部史实则需要数月。
11. Turning the Mock into a Revision Plan | 从模拟卷到复习计划
A mock is only worth sitting if you analyse it afterwards. Mark your own paper against the levels in the mark scheme, then colour-code every lost mark as knowledge, source skill, or timing.
只有考后认真分析,模拟考才有价值。对照评分标准中的等级自行批改,然后把每一个失分点用颜色标注为知识、史料技能或时间管理三类。
Knowledge errors go onto flashcards with a date and a specific detail. Source-skill errors go into a rewritten answer, produced the next day without notes. Timing errors go into a drilling routine: three 12-mark plans in twenty minutes.
知识类错误做成带日期和具体细节的记忆卡。史料技能类错误通过第二天不看书重写答案来解决。时间类错误则通过专项训练解决:二十分钟内写出三个 12 分题的提纲。
Re-sit the same mock paper four weeks later under full exam conditions and compare the mark. Improvement in the same paper isolates genuine skill gains from luck with question topics.
四周后在完全考试条件下重做同一份模拟卷并对比分数。在同一份卷子上取得进步,可以把真正的技能提升与"押中考题"的运气区分开来。
12. Final Exam-Day Checklist | 考前检查清单
On the day, work through a short routine before your pen touches the paper. It takes two minutes and protects marks you have already earned in revision.
考试当天,在动笔之前先走一遍简短流程。它只需两分钟,却能保住你复习时已经挣到的分数。
Scan all questions and note the mark allocations. / 通读所有题目,记下分值。
Underline every command word. / 给每个指令词划线。
Box the date, author and type of every source. / 把每条史料的日期、作者与类型框出。
Write a one-line plan before each extended answer. / 每个长答案前写一句提纲。
Use evidence with names, dates and numbers, not vague generalities. / 使用带人名、日期和数字的证据,避免模糊空话。
Reserve five minutes to check dates, spelling of key terms, and your conclusion. / 留出五分钟检查日期、关键术语拼写和结论。
Structure beats volume in WJEC History. If you answer the question that is actually set, develop your points in chains of cause and effect, and weigh your evidence before concluding, a mock grade of 5 can realistically become a 7 or 8.
在 WJEC 历史中,结构胜过篇幅。只要你回答的确实是题目所问,用因果链展开论点,并在
