📚 5.3 Ideal Gas Molecules | 5.3 理想气体分子
The behaviour of gases can be explained by thinking about the particles that make them up. The kinetic particle model describes how tiny, fast‑moving particles cause the bulk properties we observe, such as pressure and temperature. An ideal gas is a simplified version of this model that makes it easier to predict how gases will respond to changes in volume, temperature and pressure.
气体的行为可以通过构成气体的粒子来解释。动力学粒子模型描述了微小的、快速运动的粒子如何引起我们所观察到的宏观性质,例如压力和温度。理想气体是这个模型的简化版本,它使得预测气体将如何响应体积、温度和压力的变化变得更加容易。
1. Introduction to the Particle Model | 粒子模型简介
All matter is made up of tiny particles (atoms, molecules or ions). In gases, these particles are far apart compared with their size and are moving at high speeds in all directions. The random movement and collisions of these particles give gases their characteristic properties, such as low density and the ability to fill any container.
所有物质都由微小的粒子(原子、分子或离子)组成。在气体中,这些粒子彼此之间的距离相对于它们的大小来说很远,并且它们以高速向各个方向运动。这些粒子的随机运动和碰撞赋予了气体其特有的性质,例如低密度以及能够充满任何容器的能力。
The kinetic particle model is the foundation for understanding why gases do not have a fixed shape or volume. It also explains why gases can be compressed much more easily than solids or liquids – there is a great deal of empty space between the particles.
动力学粒子模型是理解为什么气体没有固定形状或体积的基础。它还解释了为什么气体比固体或液体更容易被压缩——粒子之间存在大量的空隙。
2. What is an Ideal Gas? | 什么是理想气体?
An ideal gas is a theoretical gas composed of a large number of randomly moving point particles that do not interact except during perfectly elastic collisions. Real gases behave like ideal gases only under certain conditions, usually at high temperatures and low pressures, when the particles are far apart and attractive forces become negligible.
理想气体是一种理论上的气体,由大量随机运动的点粒子组成,除了发生完全弹性碰撞之外,这些粒子之间不存在相互作用。实际气体只有在特定条件下才表现得像理想气体,通常是在高温和低压下,此时粒子相距很远,吸引力可以忽略不计。
The ideal gas concept allows us to make simple predictions using the gas laws. When we talk about an 'ideal gas molecule', we ignore its own volume and any forces of attraction between molecules. This simplification is very useful for understanding the basic principles behind gas pressure and temperature.
理想气体的概念使我们能够利用气体定律进行简单的预测。当我们谈论“理想气体分子”时,我们忽略了分子自身的体积以及分子之间的任何吸引力。这种简化对于理解气体压力和温度背后的基本原理非常有用。
3. Assumptions of the Kinetic Theory | 动力学理论的假设
The kinetic theory of gases is built on a set of assumptions that define an ideal gas. These assumptions are essential for deriving mathematical relationships between pressure, volume and temperature.
气体动力学理论建立在一组定义理想气体的假设之上。这些假设对于推导压力、体积和温度之间的数学关系至关重要。
-
A gas consists of a large number of identical, tiny particles moving in random directions.
气体由大量相同的微小粒子组成,它们沿随机方向运动。
-
The volume of the gas particles themselves is negligible compared with the total volume occupied by the gas.
与气体所占据的总体积相比,气体粒子自身的体积可以忽略不计。
-
There are no forces of attraction or repulsion between the particles except during collisions.
除了碰撞瞬间外,粒子之间没有吸引力或排斥力。
-
Collisions between gas particles and with the walls of the container are perfectly elastic – no kinetic energy is lost.
气体粒子之间以及粒子与容器壁之间的碰撞是完全弹性的——没有动能的损失。
-
The time of a collision is very short compared with the time between collisions.
与两次碰撞之间的时间相比,碰撞持续的时间非常短。
-
The average kinetic energy of the particles depends only on the absolute temperature (Kelvin) of the gas.
粒子的平均动能仅取决于气体的绝对温度(开尔文)。
4. Brownian Motion as Evidence | 布朗运动作为证据
Brownian motion provides direct evidence for the kinetic particle model. When smoke particles in air or pollen grains in water are viewed under a microscope, they are seen to move in a random, jerky path. This motion occurs because the much smaller, invisible air or water molecules are constantly colliding with the larger visible particles from all sides.
布朗运动为动力学粒子模型提供了直接证据。当在显微镜下观察空气中的烟雾粒子或水中的花粉颗粒时,可以看到它们沿着随机的、不平稳的路径运动。产生这种运动的原因是小得多且看不见的空气分子或水分子从四面八方不断地撞击较大的可见粒子。
The observation of Brownian motion supports the idea that gas (and liquid) particles are in continuous, random motion. The effect is more vigorous at higher temperatures, confirming that the average kinetic energy of the invisible molecules increases with temperature.
布朗运动的观察支持气体(和液体)粒子处于持续、随机运动中的观点。温度越高,这种效应越剧烈,这证实了看不见的分子的平均动能随温度升高而增加。
No permanent change in direction is caused by a single collision; instead, the jerky movement results from many unbalanced collisions occurring over a short time. This is consistent with the assumption of many, rapid, elastic collisions in the kinetic theory.
单次碰撞不会造成永久的方向改变;相反,这种不平稳的运动是短时间内发生的许多不平衡碰撞的结果。这与动力学理论中关于大量、快速、弹性碰撞的假设一致。
5. Gas Pressure and Molecular Collisions | 气体压力与分子碰撞
Gas pressure is caused by the force exerted by gas particles when they collide with the walls of their container. Each collision exerts a tiny force on the wall, and the combined effect of billions of collisions every second produces a steady, measurable pressure.
气体压力是由气体粒子与其容器壁碰撞时所施加的力引起的。每一次碰撞都会对器壁施加一个微小的力,而每秒数十亿次碰撞的联合效果产生了一个稳定、可测量的压力。
If the number of particles or their speed increases, the frequency and force of collisions rise, leading to a higher pressure. Similarly, reducing the volume of the container while keeping the number of particles constant forces the particles closer together, increasing the collision rate and therefore the pressure.
如果粒子数量增加或其速度增加,碰撞的频率和力道就会上升,导致更高的压力。同样地,在保持粒子数量不变的情况下减小容器的体积,会迫使粒子靠得更近,从而增加碰撞频率,进而增加压力。
In the kinetic model, pressure (p) is proportional to the frequency of collisions and the average force per collision. Both factors are linked to the average speed of the particles, which in turn depends on the absolute temperature.
在动力学模型中,压力 (p) 与碰撞频率和每次碰撞的平均力成正比。这两个因素都与粒子的平均速率有关,而平均速率又取决于绝对温度。
6. Temperature and Kinetic Energy | 温度与动能
In the kinetic theory, the temperature of a gas is a measure of the average kinetic energy of its particles. The higher the temperature, the faster the particles move on average. This relationship is linear when temperature is measured in kelvin.
在动力学理论中,气体的温度是其粒子平均动能的量度。温度越高,粒子平均运动得越快。当温度以开尔文为单位测量时,这种关系是线性的。
Average kinetic energy ∝ Absolute temperature (T in K)
平均动能 ∝ 绝对温度 (T,单位为 K)
If the temperature of a gas is doubled from 200 K to 400 K, the average kinetic energy of the particles is also doubled. This means the particles move with a greater root mean square speed, but not all particles travel at the same speed – there is a distribution of speeds (Maxwell–Boltzmann distribution).
如果气体的温度从 200 K 翻倍至 400 K,粒子的平均动能也会翻倍。这意味着粒子以更大的均方根速率运动,但并非所有粒子都以相同的速度运动——存在一个速率分布(麦克斯韦-玻尔兹曼分布)。
It is crucial to remember that temperature must be converted to the Kelvin scale when using gas laws. The Celsius scale cannot be used directly, because 0 °C does not represent zero kinetic energy.
关键要记住,在使用气体定律时,温度必须转换为开尔文温标。不能直接使用摄氏温标,因为 0 °C 并不代表动能为零。
7. Absolute Zero and the Kelvin Scale | 绝对零度与开尔文温标
Absolute zero is the lowest possible temperature, at which particles have the minimum possible kinetic energy. It is equal to –273.15 °C (often approximated to –273 °C) and is the starting point of the Kelvin temperature scale.
绝对零度是可能达到的最低温度,此时粒子具有尽可能最小的动能。它等于 -273.15 °C(通常近似为 -273 °C),并且是开尔文温标的起点。
T (K) = θ (°C) + 273
T (K) = θ (°C) + 273
At absolute zero, although particles would still possess a tiny amount of energy due to quantum effects, classical kinetic theory assumes that all translational motion stops. When we talk about gas laws, we always use the Kelvin scale to ensure direct proportionality between temperature and volume or pressure.
在绝对零度下,虽然由于量子效应粒子仍会拥有极微小的能量,但经典动力学理论假设所有平动运动都停止了。当我们讨论气体定律时,我们始终使用开尔文温标,以确保温度与体积或压力之间的成正比关系。
A temperature change of 1 K is the same size as a change of 1 °C, but the scales start at different points. This means a gas at 0 °C has a Kelvin temperature of 273 K, providing a meaningful absolute measure of the particles' kinetic energy.
1 K 的温度变化与 1 °C 的变化大小相同,但两个温标的起点不同。这意味着 0 °C 的气体具有 273 K 的开尔文温度,为粒子的动能提供了有意义的绝对测量。
8. The Gas Laws: Boyle’s Law | 气体定律:玻意耳定律
Boyle’s law describes the relationship between the pressure and volume of a fixed mass of gas at constant temperature. It states that pressure is inversely proportional to volume.
玻意耳定律描述了在恒温下,一定质量气体的压力与体积之间的关系。该定律指出,压力与体积成反比。
p ∝ 1/V or pV = constant (at constant T)
p ∝ 1/V 或 pV = 常数 (T 恒定)
Using the kinetic model, if the volume of a container is halved while the temperature remains the same, the particles are confined to half the space. The frequency of collisions with the walls doubles, so the pressure doubles. The particles themselves do not change speed because the temperature is unchanged.
利用动力学模型,如果在温度不变的情况下将容器体积减半,粒子就被限制在一半的空间内。与器壁的碰撞频率加倍,因此压力也加倍。粒子本身的速度不会改变,因为温度没有变化。
| Volume (V) | Pressure (p) | p × V |
| 100 cm³ | 100 kPa | 10 000 |
| 50 cm³ | 200 kPa | 10 000 |
| 25 cm³ | 400 kPa | 10 000 |
ant. This is a useful way to check whether a gas obeys Boyle’s law under given conditions.
上表显示,只要温度固定,乘积 p × V 就保持恒定。这是检验某种气体在给定条件下是否遵守玻意耳定律的有用方法。
9. Charles’s Law | 查理定律
Charles’s law relates the volume of a fixed mass of gas to its absolute temperature while the pressure is kept constant. It states that volume is directly proportional to the Kelvin temperature.
查理定律将一定质量气体在压力恒定时的体积与其绝对温度联系起来。该定律指出,体积与开尔文温度成正比。
V ∝ T or V/T = constant (at constant p)
V ∝ T 或 V/T = 常数 (p 恒定)
When a gas is heated at constant pressure, the particles gain kinetic energy, move faster, and collide with the walls more forcefully. To keep the pressure constant, the volume must increase so that the collision rate per unit area is reduced. This is why a balloon expands when warmed.
当气体在恒压下被加热时,粒子获得动能,运动得更快,并且与器壁的碰撞更加有力。为了保持压力恒定,体积必须增大,以使单位面积的碰撞率降低。这就是气球在受热时会膨胀的原因。
Extrapolating a graph of volume against Celsius temperature backwards gives a temperature of –273 °C at zero volume. This point is absolute zero, and when the temperature axis is re‑plotted in kelvin, the line passes through the origin, confirming direct proportionality.
将体积-摄氏温度图向后外推,在体积为零时得到 -273 °C 的温度。这一点是绝对零度,而当温度轴用开尔文重新绘制时,直线将通过原点,从而证实了正比关系。
10. The Pressure Law (Gay‑Lussac’s Law) | 压力定律(盖-吕萨克定律)
The pressure law states that for a fixed mass of gas at constant volume, the pressure is directly proportional to the absolute temperature.
压力定律指出,对于体积恒定的一定质量气体,压力与绝对温度成正比。
p ∝ T or p/T = constant (at constant V)
p ∝ T 或 p/T = 常数 (V 恒定)
As the temperature increases, the particles move with greater average speed. Because the volume is fixed, they hit the walls more frequently and with greater force, so the pressure rises. This law explains why a sealed aerosol can warn against heating: the rising temperature would cause the pressure to increase dangerously.
随着温度升高,粒子以更大的平均速率运动。由于体积固定,它们会以更高的频率和更大的力量撞击器壁,因此压力升高。这条定律解释了为什么密封的气雾罐会警告切勿加热:温度升高会导致压力危险地增加。
Just as with Charles’s law, a linear relationship is only obtained when the temperature is expressed in kelvin. If temperature is measured in degrees Celsius, the graph of p against θ is a straight line that does not pass through the origin, with an x‑intercept at –273 °C.
正如查理定律一样,只有当温度以开尔文表示时,才能得到线性关系。如果温度以摄氏度测量,p 对 θ 的图像是一条不通过原点的直线,x 截距在 -273 °C。
11. Limitations of the Ideal Gas Model | 理想气体模型的局限性
Real gases do not obey the ideal gas laws perfectly under all conditions. Deviations become significant at very high pressures and very low temperatures. Under these conditions, two of the kinetic theory assumptions break down.
实际气体并非在所有条件下都完全遵守理想气体定律。在非常高的压力和非常低的温度下,偏差变得显著。在这些条件下,动力学的两个假设便不再成立。
First, at high pressures, gas particles are forced very close together. Their own volume is no longer negligible compared to the container volume, and attractive forces between particles start to play a role. These intermolecular forces reduce the force of collisions with the walls, so the measured pressure is lower than that predicted by the ideal gas equation.
首先,在高压下,气体粒子被迫彼此非常接近。此时它们自身的体积与容器体积相比不再可以忽略,并且粒子之间的吸引力开始发挥作用。这些分子间作用力降低了粒子与器壁碰撞的力度,因此测得的压力低于理想气体方程所预测的值。
Second, at very low temperatures, particles move slowly, and the attractive forces become more significant. This can lead to the gas condensing into a liquid – a change of state that the ideal gas model cannot describe because it assumes no forces between particles.
其次,在非常低的温度下,粒子运动缓慢,吸引力变得更加显著。这可能导致气体凝结成液体——这是一种理想气体模型无法描述的状态变化,因为该模型假设粒子之间没有作用力。
Despite these limitations, the ideal gas model remains extremely useful for explaining and predicting the behaviour of gases in a wide range of everyday and laboratory situations, as long as pressures are moderate and temperatures are well above the boiling point of the substance.
尽管存在这些局限性,只要压力适中且温度远高于物质的沸点,理想气体模型在解释和预测广泛日常及实验室情况下的气体行为方面,仍然极为有用。
