📚 GCSE Cambridge Music: Terminology Quick Memorisation Guide | GCSE剑桥音乐:词汇术语速记指南
Mastering musical terminology is essential for success in the GCSE Cambridge Music exams. Whether you are analysing a set work, describing an unfamiliar piece, or answering multiple-choice questions, a strong command of Italian terms, structural labels, and instrumental techniques will help you communicate your ideas accurately. This guide organises the most important terms into logical categories and pairs them with effective memorisation strategies so you can learn faster and recall them confidently in your exam.
掌握音乐术语对于在GCSE剑桥音乐考试中取得成功至关重要。无论你是在分析指定作品、描述陌生乐曲,还是回答选择题,熟练使用意大利语术语、曲式标签和器乐技巧都能帮助你准确表达想法。本指南将最重要的术语按逻辑分类,并配以高效的记忆策略,让你更快学习并在考试中自信回忆。
1. Why Terminology Decides Your Grade | 为什么术语直接决定你的分数
Cambridge GCSE Music rewards precise language. A candidate who writes "it gets louder" may earn one mark, but a candidate who writes "a crescendo from p to f" earns the same mark in fewer words and leaves room for further credit. Terminology is therefore not decoration: it is the fastest route to marks in both listening papers and the appraising component.
剑桥GCSE音乐奖励精确的语言表达。写"声音变大了"的考生也许能拿一分,但写"由p到f的渐强"的考生用更少的字拿到同一分,还留出了继续得分的空间。因此术语不是装饰,而是听力卷与作品评析部分最快的得分路径。
Terminology appears in three main exam contexts, and each one demands a slightly different kind of accuracy.
术语主要出现在三类考试情境中,每一类对准确度的要求略有不同。
- Set work analysis: you must name devices in a named piece, e.g. "the ground bass in the opening movement".
指定作品分析:你需要说出特定作品中的手法,例如"开头乐章中的固定低音"。 - Unfamiliar listening: you hear a piece once or twice and must label what you hear using standard vocabulary.
陌生听力:你只听一两遍乐曲,必须用标准词汇标出所听到的内容。 - Multiple-choice and short answer: definitions, symbols and abbreviations are tested directly.
选择题与简答:直接考查定义、符号与缩写。
The golden rule is simple: one accurate term beats three vague sentences. Learn the word, learn what it sounds like, then learn how to spell it.
黄金法则很简单:一个准确的术语胜过三句模糊的描述。记住这个词、记住它的听感,再记住它的拼写。
2. Dynamics and Expression | 力度与表情
Dynamics refer to the volume of sound in music. Most dynamic markings are written in Italian and appear as abbreviations or symbols. Understanding these terms enables you to describe how loud or soft a passage is, as well as gradual changes in volume. Familiarity with expressions like sforzando also helps you pinpoint accented moments.
力度指音乐中的音量大小。大多数力度记号用意大利语书写,以缩写或符号形式出现。理解这些术语能让你描述乐段的强弱以及音量的逐步变化。熟悉 sforzando 等表情术语也有助于你识别重音瞬间。
| Term / Abbreviation | Meaning | 中文含义 |
|---|---|---|
| pp (pianissimo) | very quiet | 极弱 |
| p (piano) | quiet | 弱 |
| mp (mezzo-piano) | moderately quiet | 中弱 |
| mf (mezzo-forte) | moderately loud | 中强 |
| f (forte) | loud | 强 |
| ff (fortissimo) | very loud | 极强 |
| cresc. (crescendo) | gradually getting louder | 渐强 |
| dim. / decresc. | gradually getting quieter | 渐弱 |
| sfz / sf (sforzando) | sudden strong accent on one note or chord | 突强(单音或和弦) |
| fp (forte-piano) | loud then immediately quiet | 强后即弱 |
| subito p / subito f | suddenly quiet / suddenly loud | 突弱/突强 |
Expression terms colour the sound rather than the volume alone. Dolce means sweetly, espressivo means expressively, legato means smooth and connected, and marcato means marked or stressed. When a question asks about "dynamics and expression", a full-mark answer usually combines both: name the level and name its character.
表情术语修饰的不只是音量,而是音色本身。Dolce 意为甜美地,espressivo 意为富有表情地,legato 意为连贯圆滑,marcato 意为加重突出。当题目问及"力度与表情"时,满分答案通常两者兼顾:说明力度层级,同时说明其性格。
pp < p < mp < mf < f < ff
3. Tempo Terms | 速度术语
Tempo is the speed of the music and, in exam answers, it is usually expressed with an Italian term plus a rough metronome range. Cambridge questions frequently ask you to compare the tempo of two sections, so learn these in order from slowest to fastest rather than as an isolated list.
速度是音乐进行的快慢,在考试答案中通常以意大利语术语加一个大致的节拍器范围表示。剑桥试题常要求比较两个乐段的速度,因此请按"由慢到快"的顺序记忆,而不要把术语当作孤立清单。
| Term | Speed | 中文含义 |
|---|---|---|
| grave / largo | very slow and broad | 极慢、宽广 |
| adagio | slow | 慢板 |
| andante | walking pace | 行板(行走速度) |
| moderato | moderate | 中板 |
| allegro | fast and bright | 快板 |
| vivace | lively, faster still | 活泼地 |
| presto / prestissimo | very fast / as fast as possible | 急板/最急板 |
| accel. (accelerando) | gradually speeding up | 渐快 |
| rit. (ritardando) / rall. | gradually slowing down | 渐慢 |
| rubato | flexible, expressive pushing and pulling of tempo | 自由速度(伸缩处理) |
| a tempo | return to the original speed | 恢复原速 |
Two exam traps are worth remembering. First, accelerando and ritardando describe gradual change, whereas subito describes an instant change. Second, rubato is not simply "out of time" - it is a controlled expressive device, and saying so shows real understanding.
两个易错点值得记住。第一,accelerando 与 ritardando 描述的是渐进变化,而 subito 描述的是瞬间变化。第二,rubato 并不等于"没有拍子",而是一种受控的表情手法,能说出这一点就显示出真正的理解。
4. Articulation and Performance Directions | 奏法与演奏指示
Articulation describes how individual notes are attacked and joined. It is one of the easiest features to hear in unfamiliar listening, which makes it one of the highest-value categories to memorise.
奏法描述单个音是如何被发出与连接的。它是陌生听力中最容易听出的特征之一,因此也是记忆性价比最高的类别之一。
- staccato - short and detached / 断奏,音短而分离
- legato - smooth and connected / 连奏,圆滑连贯
- accent (>) - stress a single note / 重音,突出单音
- tenuto - hold the note for its full value / 保持音,奏满时值
- marcato - strongly marked, almost percussive / 加重,近乎敲击
- slur - play or sing the notes smoothly in one phrase / 连音线,将音连贯成句
- tie - hold one note across two bars / 延音线,跨小节保持同一音
- fermata - pause, hold the note longer than written / 延长记号,自由延长
Performance directions tell the player how to shape the sound over a longer span. Dolce, cantabile and amoroso ask for a singing, tender tone, while con brio, energico and fuoco demand drive and fire. In a describing question, linking articulation to mood is a reliable way to secure the top band.
演奏指示则告诉演奏者如何在更长的时间跨度上塑造声音。Dolce、cantabile 与 amoroso 要求歌唱般柔美的音色,而 con brio、energico 与 fuoco 则要求动力与炽热。在描述类题目中,把奏法与情绪相连,是稳拿高档分的可靠办法。
5. Melody and Pitch Terminology | 旋律与音高术语
Melody questions ask how the tune moves and how it is built. Describe the interval shape first, then the device that repeats or develops it.
旋律类题目问的是旋律如何运动、如何构成。先描述音程的走向,再描述重复或发展它的手法。
- conjunct (stepwise) - moves mainly by step / 级进,以相邻音为主
- disjunct - moves mainly by leaps / 跳进,以跳音程为主
- ascending / descending - rising / falling line / 上行/下行旋律线
- sequence - a motif repeated at a higher or lower pitch / 模进,动机在更高或更低音位重复
- imitation - one part copies another shortly after / 模仿,声部先后重复同一素材
- ostinato / riff - a short pattern repeated many times / 固定音型/连复段,短音型反复出现
- motif - a short, recognisable musical idea / 动机,短小可辨的音乐单位
- phrase / antecedent and consequent - a musical sentence and its answering phrase / 乐句/前句与答句
- ornamentation - decoration of a melody / 装饰音,对旋律的加花
Ornaments are tested surprisingly often, so learn them as recognisable sounds: a trill alternates rapidly between two adjacent notes; a mordent flicks to the note above or below and back; a turn circles around the main note; an acciaccatura is a crushed grace note played almost instantly, while an appoggiatura leans on the beat and takes real time.
装饰音被考查的频率出奇地高,因此请把它们当作可辨认的声音来记:trill(颤音)在两个相邻音之间快速交替;mordent(波音)迅速触向上方或下方邻音再返回;turn(回音)围绕主音环绕;acciaccatura(短倚音)几乎立即掠过,而 appoggiatura(长倚音)落在拍点上并占用实际时值。
Scale and pitch-set vocabulary completes this category: major, minor (harmonic and melodic), chromatic, whole tone, pentatonic, modal, blues scale, and drone-based melody. Naming the scale type is often the single most valuable observation you can make about an unfamiliar melody.
音阶与音高集合类词汇补全了这一类别:大调、小调(和声与旋律小调)、半音阶、全音阶、五声音阶、调式音阶、布鲁斯音阶,以及以持续音为基础的旋律。指出音阶类型,往往是你对陌生旋律所能做出的最有价值的一句判断。
6. Harmony and Tonality | 和声与调性
Harmony covers the chords used and the way they move; tonality covers the key or tonal centre of the music. These two words are frequently confused in exam answers, so keep them strictly separate in your notes.
和声涉及所用和弦及其进行方式;调性涉及乐曲的调或调性中心。考生在答题时常把这两个词混淆,因此在笔记中要严格区分。
Cadences are the backbone of harmony questions. A perfect cadence (V-I) sounds finished; an imperfect cadence (ending on V) sounds unfinished; a plagal cadence (IV-I) has the familiar "amen" feel; an interrupted or deceptive cadence (V-vi) surprises the ear by refusing to close.
终止式是和声题目的骨架。完全终止(V-I)听来结束感强;不完全终止(停在V)听来未完;变格终止(IV-I)具有熟悉的"阿门"感;阻碍终止或意外终止(V-vi)以拒绝收束的方式给听觉制造意外。
Beyond cadences, build a working vocabulary of triads, primary chords (I, IV, V), seventh chords, dissonance and consonance, suspensions, pedal notes and drones, and modulation to the relative major or relative minor. Use the phrase "the music modulates to the dominant" rather than "the key changes somewhere".
除终止式外,请建立一套实用词汇:三和弦、主要和弦(I、IV、V)、七和弦、不协和与协和、延留音、持续音与持续低音,以及向关系大调或关系小调的转调。请写"乐曲转调到属调",而不是"调性在某处变了"。
For advanced credit, distinguish diatonic harmony (notes belonging to the key) from chromatic harmony (notes outside it), and describe atonal or modal writing when the music genuinely avoids a clear major or minor key.
若想获得更高分,需区分自然音和声(属于该调的音)与半音化和声(调外音),并在音乐确实回避明确大小调时,用无调性或调式写法来概括。
7. Texture | 织体
Texture describes how many layers of sound are present and how they relate. It is usually the fastest feature to identify in a listening question, so aim to name the texture within the first hearing.
织体描述音乐中有多少声音层次以及它们之间的关系。这通常是听力题中最快能判断出的特征,因此争取在第一遍聆听时就说出织体名称。
| Texture | What you hear | 中文含义 |
|---|---|---|
| monophonic | one single line, no accompaniment | 单声部,单一旋律线 |
| homophonic | melody with chordal accompaniment | 主调,旋律加和弦伴奏 |
| polyphonic / contrapuntal | two or more independent melodic lines | 复调
