The Edexcel specification develops knowledge in cognitive, biological, social and developmental psychology alongside robust research methods training. Universities value the analytical and scientific skills gained, and many treat Psychology as a science subject for entry purposes.
However, top universities often prefer a combination of Psychology with another traditional science such as Biology or Mathematics, so it is essential to check specific course requirements.

3. University of Oxford: Experimental Psychology |
Oxford's Experimental Psychology degree (C800) requires A*AA at A-Level. Although there are no essential subjects, tutors strongly recommend an A-level in Mathematics or a science (Biology, Chemistry, Physics). Edexcel Psychology is accepted and demonstrates relevant interest, but candidates without a traditional science may need to compensate through strong performance in the Thinking Skills Assessment (TSA) and interviews.
Oxford values research literacy, so highlighting the research methods component of Edexcel Psychology in your personal statement can be beneficial.

4. University of Cambridge: Psychological and Behavioural Sciences |
Cambridge PBS (C800) typically offers A*AA, with certain colleges setting A*A*A. While there are no compulsory subjects, successful applicants often hold A-levels in Biology and/or Mathematics. The course also considers performance in the UCAT or TSA, depending on the college.

If your A-level combination is Psychology with Business and Art, this would be less competitive. Aim for Biology, Chemistry or Mathematics alongside Psychology to maximise your chances.
