* Age ranges are a guide. Schools may place students slightly above or below the typical range depending on local policy and the individual learner. Checkpoint assessments are diagnostic rather than terminal qualifications.

Cambridge Secondary 2 is the stage where students first gain internationally recognised qualifications, most commonly Cambridge IGCSE® or Cambridge O Level. This is the point at which breadth begins to give way to informed specialisation.

Grades are awarded from A* to G, with A* to C (or the equivalent 9 to 4 in the reformed UK scale used for some subjects) generally regarded as a strong pass.
